The Man Who Circumnavigated the Medieval World

Ibn Battuta (February 24, 1304 – 1368)

“Son of the Duckling” is a literal translation of Ibn Battuta, but my brain went to “Butterfly” when I first read his name. Hmm.

I also got another ‘hint’ when I was thinking about the man. I’ll tell you that in a minute, but first, let’s look at his birth chart, which is randomized, due to his birth time being unknown.

Obviously, a Taurus Ascendant person would probably never leave home, so it is more likely to be an Aries personality, or even a Sagittarius. So, those energies are encapsulated by an (almost) exact conjunction between Venus and Mars @ 0° Aries, and the North Node @ 23° Sagittarius. Hmm. Of the four ‘official’ inconjuncts, two form a Yod pointing at Mars, from Jupiter and Uranus. I think we’re on solid ground.

That Hint?

Could he have been another reincarnation of Jesus? Let’s see:

Their Neptune placements are closely conjunct. Is that enough? Perhaps not. But what it shows me is that both men were itinerates, constantly on the road and preaching the Gospel (Good News). Battuta’s Sun is opposite Jesus’ Pluto. Could this imply the moving on to a different phase, Jewish to Muslim?

I’m not sure that any of this is relevant, but I wonder why I get these kinds of hints.

Resurrections? More Like Reincarnations

The Matrix Resurrections (2021)

I have to admit that I didn’t go to the cinema to see this 4th part of The Matrix series (can’t call it a trilogy anymore), because we were in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. After parts II and III, I wasn’t optimistic that part IV would be any good. I was wrong.

But there’s a twist this time that I didn’t see coming: Trinity as the Saviour. Wow!

Good One, Neo.

A Strange Song to be Hearing in the Middle of the Night

I Shall Be Released (July 1, 1968)

It was the chorus that kept repeating:

I see my light come shining
From the west down to the east
Any day now, any day now
I shall be released

Genius.com

Because this is, in fact, the reverse of the Son of Man coming from the East and seen in the West, it struck me as strange. Obviously, Bob Dylan had to write it that way to get the rhyme. But you get my point.

This song comes from the album “Music from Big Pink” named after a house where the Band and Bob Dylan recorded in New York state. For interest sake, I looked at the event chart for the release of that album.

Two interactive Yods! One apex points at Saturn, the other at Neptune. Mercury and Uranus are the other inconjunct arms of these Yods. I suppose you couldn’t ask for a better description of the song.

Another Example of a Doubling Past-Life Influence

John Winthrop the Younger (February 12, 1606 – April 6, 1676)

This individual came to my attention via one of Justin Sledge’s YouTube videos on the ESOTERICA channel. Here it is in its entirety.

What caught my attention? He brought some of Dr. John Dee‘s books to America. A-ha, I said to myself.

This is a randomized timing. But, even so, the energies contained in this birth chart remind me of my own birth chart. There is one inconjunct.

Mars Inconjunct Pluto

At certain times in your life, when there are great changes taking place within you and in your environment, you will have to work very hard to make your affairs turn out right. There is nothing to be done at those times except do the work that must be done. Fortunately you have plenty of energy and enough endurance to pull through anything that you will encounter in life. You are basically tough and persistent. These changes are an integral part of your growth, and even if everything seems to go wrong they are necessary to your full development.

So, am I justified to compare Winthrop Jr’s chart with my own? I think so.

Jupiter conjunct? That’ll do nicely. I won’t belabour the point, but even though my life as Pierre Esprit Radisson overlaps this one in Time, we know that this probably accounts for my connection to John Dee, as well.

The Film That’s “Practically Perfect in Every Way”

Mary Poppins (August 27, 1964)

Here in Canada, our local TV station showed this film (ostensibly for Thanksgiving in the States).

I haven’t watched it all the way through for years, but I know the dialog and lyrics off by heart.

For sure, this is Music Hall (Vaudeville) at its finest.

Just for fun, let’s look at the event chart for its premiere.

So, is there anything here that can explain why “Mary Poppins” would be an instant hit and have sixty years of popularity and influence? Sun in Virgo opposite Saturn in Pisces, perhaps? There is only one inconjunct, linking Jupiter and the Midheaven. This would probably relate to the struggle for control over the whole project between Walt Disney and P.L. Travers, the author.

In truth this was Walt Disney’s crowning achievement, just two years before his death.

The film’s 6th House planets are now in Disney’s 12th House. And the two charts Ascendants are opposite each other. Did he know? Could he even have guessed? Only he knows.

OK. It’s Time to put This Baby to Bed, Forever

There is NO SUCH Thing as Reincarnation

Over the past nine years I’ve been doing astrological research into past lives and their present incarnations. But the premise is faulty if one realizes that Time as we know it doesn’t exist.

From a soul’s prospective, we are multiple beings existing all at the same (dare I say the word?) Time.

I touched on this problem before, here.

The linking features of similar planetary positions and/or aspects in natal charts show the connections between different historical (and some other unknown) figures. What has bothered me is the idea that I could be several people from the past, some even living dual lives during any specific time period. That seemed impossible.

Reincarnation is a concept to help us understand how we can be in several places at the same time.

But it fails to explain how changes in any one life (past or present) can affect all lives simultaneously.

Any clearer?

Disney’s Award Winning Songwriters

The Sherman Brothers

We watched a 2 hour “60 Minutes” program about the 60th anniversary of “Mary Poppins”. It was surprising how much these men contributed to the overall production of the film in 1964. In fact, without their songs, “Mary Poppins” wouldn’t have turned out to be the success that it was for Disney.

Robert B. Sherman (December 19, 1925 – March 6, 2012)

With an unknown birth time, I randomized this chart. In spite of that, two Yods appear, one pointing at Neptune, the other at Pluto. That has to be significant, doesn’t it?

Richard M. Sherman (June 12, 1928 – May 25, 2024)

This time, I set the clock for 11:00 am. Neptune on the horizon? That’ll do nicely. There is only one inconjunct, linking Saturn and Pluto.

When I combine their charts, I was hoping to see a configuration similar to the Brothers Grimm. But, unfortunately, this is nothing as dynamic as their combined charts. Instead, it made me look at Jacob Grimm and Robert Sherman together.

Now, here we have something tangible, It makes me feel that, in fact, Robert is Jacob’s reincarnation. Or, at the very least, the energies in one chart are continuing to act through the other. So my hunch was partially right, because the other brothers don’t seem to relate at all.

“It’s a small world, after all.”

This Man was the Philosophical Spirit of His Age

Arthur Schopenhauer (February 22, 1788 – September 21, 1861)

Honestly, I cannot decide whether someone comes to mind because they’re connected to me, or they’re just interesting in their own right. This man is a case in point. Part of his life overlaps that of William Blake, so my immediate feeling is that he has ‘nothing’ to do with me, but then a little niggle holds back my opinion.

Based upon a noon birth, since his details are unknown, there is but one inconjunct, linking the Moon and Pluto. That means it might not really exist if the true timing of his birth were known.

Moon Inconjunct Pluto

This aspect means that your emotions are very intense and not always easy to deal with. Often your feelings make you want to do or say something without knowing why. Also you may have very intense moods in which you withdraw from those around you into a world of your own. This should not be a very serious problem unless you have been brought up to have all sorts of fears and worries. In that case your actions will be driven by your fears, and you may behave quite strangely. If you do not feel accepted and emotionally supported at home, you may constantly feel guilty for what you think you have done to others, or jealous that people aren’t paying enough attention to you, or generally possessive of those around you.

Planets in Youth (page 136) by Robert Hand (1977)

Yes, that sounds familiar to me. But, unless I live more than one life concurrently during that time period, I don’t think he has anything to do with me. And then there’s this:

Natal Pluto in opposition to each other is interesting. And natal Neptune in conjunction. Hmm. Finally, his natal Moon is conjunct my natal Saturn. Could he have been the past life of my father, JEM?

I feel this accurately describes my theories about astrology and reincarnation.
