The Wellspring: Channelling for the White Brotherhood

I had the opportunity to help the author get this book published in 1993. What Fenella Rundell wrote then is as relevant now as it ever was. Maybe we can take a few lessons here.

Foreword

The Wellspring cover

When Fenella Rundell first sent her manuscript to Suzanne Thomas for perusal, we had not yet decided to begin publishing books in earnest. After reading it, Suzanne passed the manuscript to me to see what I thought of it.

I must be honest about it: I am somewhat wary of “channelled” information; but there was something different about Fenella’s work — something I cannot put my finger on — but was definitely worth a second look.

So I read it again. I then realised that, although a lot of what Fenella has written down seems to be personal and/or group oriented, the content seemed to have a more “universal” feel to it. Taken at that level, it becomes an instruction manual for spiritual development.

Not everyone will appreciate what this book contains, but, as is true with the many approaches to the Fountain concept, it has an intrinsic value and that value grows with the sharing of it. So, I hope you will read the words with an open mind and let whatever Truth contained therein come into your conscious awareness. And enjoy.

Restrictive Bonds and Resistance

“Freedom always involves self-responsibility, self-control and inner peace, so there will be resistance, as you begin to see the freedom coming towards you, of holding those few chains around you like a blanket for security. But, as you come into the sunlight, you will feel the pressure more and more to shrug off that blanket because you will feel stifled, and stand naked in the sunlight.”

“This will give you some understanding of the story of the Garden of Eden: you must be prepared to stand naked and exposed in all that you are, in the full light of consciousness—with no shame, no need to protect yourselves, or to hide—complete, standing there in your own Being-ness.”

“Your fears will hold you back, in thinking that freedom means nothingness, but how will you know unless you try? To Be is to stand tall: holding nothing, having nothing, expecting nothing, doing nothing. It is indeed death to the ego. It is indeed death to all you have ever known—very frightening—and yet in the surrender you will find yourselves drawn through the heart: pulling you, pulling you towards the light, pulling you from the solar plexus. You want it, you yearn for it, you allow it, you accept it. It has no concern of past, present or future, it just IS.”

Divine Consciousness

“The mind of God is within each one of you. Divine consciousness is within all things. In looking inwards, you reconnect with the mind of God, transcending the pulls and stresses of ego, dissolving its grip, into a new level of understanding. You still feel an apprehension, a sense of unworthiness—not ready, maybe one day, but you know not when. But the time now has come, and the pull of the Universe is dragging you more and more into accepting who you are and your part in the whole scheme of things. The mind of God is within you. Let down the veils, let down the resistances, let down the fears, let down that sense of unworthiness; for it is no more than a trick of the ego that denies that you are who you are. You are a manifestation of creation. You are at-one with ‘All That Is’.”

Ego

Becky Falls

“As your higher consciousness begins to fill you, dissolving more and more the confines of ego, you will find that you will be able, very easily, to communicate with other realms and dimensions. You will begin to see the devas as well as the angelic realms. But do not expect to see with your physical eyes. You will see with knowingness, you will know who is there. You will be able to talk and to converse.”

“But, please bear in mind that what you see is not available to all. There will be many whom you meet who are blind, who are still clothed in limitation. Be gentle with such people and do not frighten them. Your own awareness will tune-in instantly to their needs, and it is also important that they are not left in a sense of wretchedness and hopelessness when they begin to see that you differ from them. So, in all your dealings with humankind, tune-in and recognise ‘where they are at’. Always be gentle, always be compassionate and kind, for you do not serve the Universe if you have little sparks of ego showing themselves.”

Letting Down the Barriers

“Peace will come to the world when mankind is prepared to listen to his own inner voice. All the while the ego triumphs, all the while men hold on to fears, then you will expect to see skirmishes and wars throughout the planet. It will take a while before humanity really accepts the futility of constantly being at war with his brother, when he continues to seek barriers that separate him and break down units into smaller and smaller components. The problems you are observing in Yugoslavia are but a small illustration of worldwide divisions.”

“Deep within men’s hearts, there is a knowingness that in time you must be a united planet. But, the tendency to hold on to old memories, to fears of loss of something—be it nationalism, or personal identity—a situation of barriers and separation will continue. You know not how long this situation will continue, but it raises in men’s hearts a fear of everything falling apart, and it is like the death throes of the old age, holding on to the existing form as it has been known and seen to work in ages past. But, know you that the New Age is coming. These barriers cannot be upheld. The time will come that, if the barriers are not let down voluntarily, circumstances through‘natural’ causes will break down the resistance, and you will have to learn to work together. There must be a balance between personal responsibility for your own back yard and active cooperation with your neighbour, finding a common cause and a common way of using world resources with wisdom, and in balance with the planet itself.”

Conclusion

This book is no longer in print. If you would like a copy, let me know. I’m still in touch with Suzanne Thomas. She edits the “Fountain International Magazine”, which can be found here.

The Refiner’s Fire

Life is a journey. Is it possible to get pointers along the way? I believe that the Tarot is as good an indicator of where to go and how to get there as any other process. See if you agree.

Introduction

unnamed
Lemniscate

While preparing my talk for the 1991 Fountain International (UK) Conference, I happened upon an image in a book called “Tarot for Relationships”, which seemed to lend itself quite nicely as a framework for the quotations. This image, known as a lemniscate (more commonly referred to as an infinity symbol), is reproduced here.

According to the authors, once you lay out the 22 cards of the Major Arcana in the form of the lemniscate,

“It will be seen that it consists of two circles: one male/clockwise/solar circle representing the masculine principle; and one feminine/anti-clockwise/lunar circle representing the feminine principle. When the cards are placed in this pattern, the circular designs of The Wheel and The World occur at the intersection. The cards of the male circle turn outwards, symbolizing extroversion, activity and interaction with the physical world, while the female circle turns inwards symbolizing introspection, passivity and the cultivation of psychic qualities. The cards of the male circle are numbered clockwise 0 to 9 (single figures) and the cards of the female circle are numbered anti-clockwise 11 to 20 (double figures).”

To me the infinity symbol has always represented the concept of eternity, of recurring cycles of birth, life and death, creation and destruction. During one lifetime, a person may reach the intersection of The Wheel and The World, and if that person is not ready to work on the inner planes, he is returned to the outer world.

That is why there is The Refiner’s Fire: to try us, to purify us, to separate us from the world of matter and bring us back to spiritual subtlety. May the subtlety of the quotations in this book be part of “The Refiner’s Fire” for you.

The Refiner’s Fire

The Refiner's Fire

Behold, I show you a mystery: we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed; for this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. (1 Corinthians 15:51-53)

The Seed’s Secret

From “Tales for Jung Folk” by Richards Roberts

When The Wanderer had passed this way again, He strew some seeds over the world to make the world green and to give Him much joy. But He moved quickly on through the universe, and left within each only a small seed of His Own Light.

It was winter on the earth when He passed our way, and Mother Nature was cold and unreceptive to the seeds. Her body was awaiting the great surge of spring, when she stirred in her sleep, shook her loins, and the great cycle of life began again within her.

The seeds lay in a great horde over her body, and on the first day the rains rained all day. “Now,” said the seeds, “we’re soaked through and through. Just right for our beginning.”

On the next day, a cold wind blew out of the north, and some of the seeds began to complain. “We were told that accommodations might not be the best, but this is absurd.” Some of them even began to wish that they had never been strewn.

The third day was no easier. The ground was hardened by the wind, and not a root could be put down.

The rest of the week the rains came back, softening the earth, but driving the seeds deeper and deeper into the ground. Some of them were borne away on rivulets of water. Others bounced from place to place as giant raindrops struck them.

“Ouch,” and “Oouch!” said the seeds as the rain hammered their heads. “If only the sun would come out!” chorused all of them.

“What a beautiful seedling I could be,” said another, “if only I had the right warm soil around me, and just enough sun to start me sprouting.”

“Oh,” said its neighbour, “I don’t ask much. Just a little sun through the clouds and I can manage as well as any.”

But the rains carried on through all of that month and the next. This was impossible to the seeds. Anyone listening who could talk seed-talk would have heard a whole field of complaints,

Except for one! This one seed had been bored at first by all the bad vibrations around him, then genuinely annoyed, and now he knew that if he paid any more attention to them, he would become just like them – a complainer who would never, ever grow.

So what if the rains wouldn’t stop, and the sun hadn’t come out. It was time to do something about it. All the others were waiting for something to happen outside themselves. Maybe nothing ever happened out there. Was there a sun? He had never seen it.

Their Great Legend was that the sun would come again. It had come once before, so the ancestral story went, and when it had, all of “those-who-had-bloomed-before” had burst their jackets and raised their heads to heaven.

Now despair was rampant in the seeds like a fungus, corroding the very spirit of The Wanderer at the centre of their beings.

Except for the one seed. The time had come to do something, and none of the others had thought of that. It had had enough of rain and mud, too. Perhaps the thing to do was to bring the sun out.

Making a mighty effort of will, the seed slowly pushed out a small root. “Lord,” it thought, “this is hard work!”

The other seeds were full of scorn. What good was it to try to amount to anything when the sun wasn’t out. All of them knew the seed would come to a bad end. “Never start anything unless things are just right,” was an old seed law.

Well, the single seed sent its root down, and in just a day it had a firm grip on Mother Earth. Instead of gripping, the other seeds went back to griping. “If only –“ was the prelude to each of their thoughts.

The next day was rich with clouds, as full and fluffy as the cream topping on a shortcake. Not a ray of sun could get through, if there was a sun at all.

But the seed had forgotten now about “out there.” It was engaged in a fierce concentration of all its powers of will and all its collective memory of what it was like to be born. It no longer knew of the other seeds, or the field, or the rain that continued to beat down. Deep within itself, the sun was being centred. The seed was giving birth to the sun.

The next day a green shoot burst abruptly through the roof of the seed, and bore the jacket up above the ground with it.

Just at that moment, above the field the clouds parted and a glorious sun appeared. The rest of the seeds were all dead and could not see it, but it was as beautiful as the Great Legend had said it would be. It wore a gown of golden light, and was crowned with a halo of pure white light.

The seed sent a shiver of warmth blossoming down its length from tip to root, then gathered itself and surged upwards towards the sun. For the seed had learned the Great Secret of the universe, that all along the sun had been shining within.

Most of the quotations contained in this short booklet came from “The Axis of Eros” by Walter M Spink, published by Penguin Books, 1975.

The Servant on an errand (to seek the priceless jewel) for his Master falls into a ditch face down. He cannot see where his Master is, so he presumes that he is lost forever. But his Master is just behind him, at the top of the bank…

The Christian Mystery by Lois Lang-Sims

In this Angelic Fall the idea is suggested that it is not our bodies (as often supposed) but the angelic part of us, the pure flame of spiritual intellect whereby we are enabled, if we choose, to apprehend the Divine, which brings about our undoing when we cease to remember that we are no-thing in God’s Presence.

Galway Kinnell

How many nights must it take One such as me to learn that we aren’t, after all, made from that bird which flies out of its ashes, that for a man as he goes up in flames, his one work is to open himself, to be the flames?

The Gospel of Philip

At the time when Eve was in Adam, then there was no death; but when she was separated from him, death came to exist. If completion shall occur again, and the early identity is attained, then death will be no more.

Magician = 1 / High Priestess = 2

Also, in the book of Genesis, the two are split asunder in the moment of the drawing forth of the principle of Femininity, called Eve, which significantly occurs at the moment when the Adam is asleep. Sleep is a forgetting.

The three primary sins (pride, disobedience, lust) of the Adam represent the inversion of the three primary gifts bestowed by the Creator upon Lucifer because they were intended for Man: Knowledge, Freedom, Ecstasy; the power to know, the power to do, and the power to create.

These three powers are attributes of God.

Empress = 3 / Emperor = 4

In asking for something we must always be prepared, in some way, to give its equivalent; that by suffering we may bring about the joy; and by grasping at bliss we must, by an inexorable law, be responsible for pain. (Sunset and Sunrise)

Hierophant = 5 / Lovers = 6

The Dark and the Light are the twin polarities of the One. Love and Death, the Plenitude and the Void, continuously play with one another, dancing together like those medieval angels on the needle’s point.

Chandogya Upanishad

Woman, verily, O Gautama, is a sacrificial fire. In this case the sexual union is the fuel; when one invites, the smoke; the vulva, the flame; when one inserts, the coals; the sexual pleasure, the sparks. In this fire the gods offer semen.

Late Buddhist Aphorism

Buddhahood abides in the female organ.

Chariot = 7 / Strength = 8

…The fear of what the female principle can bring about when uncontrolled, unleashed and out of balance has blinded man to the fact that the male principle, when out of harmony with its partner, is just as lethal. And so we come again to the end of the cycle, and this time it is the male principle in man and nature, the over-dominant, aggressive force, which will cause the downfall of our civilisation. The earth will be purified by fire.

Nikos Kazantzakis

In a violent flash of lightning I discern in the highest peak of power the most fearful pair embracing: Terror and Silence. And between them, a Flame.

William Blake

Hermit = 9 / Wheel of Fortune = 10

At this juncture a tall, broad-shouldered man steps up to me, Seemingly, he can read my thoughts, for he replies to my inner questions: “Beautiful lady, don’t you know that this is love?”…”Now just forget the intellect a while,” says the man, “you’re not qualified to judge because you’ve never tried it. Dance with me and you’ll see for yourself.” So saying, he embraces me and drags me out into the whirling mass of people, acting just as foolishly as all the other people…I dance with him and observe myself with great curiosity…Will I too become as intoxicated, as carried away by the close contact as these poor, demented people about me? But the only thing I notice is how extremely unpleasant I find the close proximity of a man. His breath is hot, and I find it very revolting for him to be breathing into my face and down my neck. Exhaled air is used up air! Why should I be inhaling air he has already used up? Then, too, I find the odour of his body and his perspiration most unpleasant. I want fresh air. I want to get away from this repugnant place. As I try to get away from him, the man suddenly changes. In a thrice, he turns into a gigantic, fiery flaming spirit. He no longer has a body. He is only a mighty flame, trying to force me into subjection. He surrounds me, trying to force himself into my mouth…into my body. But the power I radiate, the power of my clear and sober consciousness keeps him away. He cannot reach me. He reacts, growing hotter, greater and more eager. He takes on tremendous proportions, spreading throughout the whole room, devouring all these passion-drunk people in his consuming fire. Nobody is left…nothing more…only a sea of flames, devouring and consuming everything…But I stand untouched, unscathed, and I am that I am! Then I hear a thunderous voice from out of the flames: “You have won…you have passed your test, but watch out! You haven’t won because you are stronger than I. You can’t be stronger, because I’m the fire of your own self. You just didn’t come alight because your purity and your lack of experience stand between you and me. Your body and its senses are still sleeping. That’s what protected you. But watch out, we’ll meet again…we’ll meet again!…” And with that everything disappears – fire, room, smoke — everything…and I find myself alone again… (Initiation by Elisabeth Haich)

Edgar Cayce’s STORY OF JESUS by J Furst

The reading stated that the book of Job was written by The Master (as Melchizedek) as an explanation for the pattern of man in the earth. The characters are symbolic rather than actual persons who lived on the earth.

Job 1: 6-12

The day came when the members of the court of heaven took their places in the presence of the LORD, and Satan was there among them. The LORD asked him where he had been. “Ranging over the Earth,” he said, “from end to end.” Then the LORD asked Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? You will find no one like him on the Earth, a man of blameless and upright life, who fears God and sets his face against wrongdoing.” Satan answered the LORD, “Has not Job good reason to be God fearing? Have you not hedged him round on every side with your protection, him and his family and all his possessions? Whatever he does you have blessed, and his herds have increased beyond measure. But stretch out your hand and touch all that he has, and then he will curse you to your face.” Then the LORD said to Satan, “So be it. All that he has is in your hands; only Job himself you must not touch.” And Satan left the LORD’s presence.

After Jesus brought Lazarus back from the dead, he had him prepare himself for a spiritual baptism by meditating with the angels of the Heavenly Father and Earthly Mother for 6 days in the manner of the ESSENES. Then on the seventh evening, Jesus took Lazarus to a cave with a stream running through it and initiated him with a secret ceremony.

“The Mystery of the Kingdom of God”

To judge from the hekalot and Qumran texts, the magical papyri and the Byzantine liturgy, these will have been mainly the recitation of repetitive, hypnotic prayers and hymns. The magical tradition also prescribes, in some instances, interference with breathing. Manipulation, too, was probably involved; the stories of Jesus’ miracles give a very large place to the use of his hands.

“Jung and the Lost Gospels” by S A Hoeller

Baptism was practiced in two forms – ordinary baptism as administered by the orthodox was known as “psychic baptism”, because it was designed for people whose consciousness was lodged in the mind-emotion complex and who were not ready to enter the realm of spirit. A higher form of baptism was known as “pneumatic baptism”, indicating that when administered in this fashion, the baptism rite no longer merely served the purpose of purifying the soul, but rather put a personality in touch with the higher, or spiritual, self… Anointing (in modern times called confirmation) is the second initiatory sacrament. Water is used to wash, oil is employed to seal. Oil, when ignited, burns, and is thus associated with the element of fire, whereas baptism is associated with water. These two elements have traditionally been regarded by the ancients as the primary polarity which when conjoined produce wholeness. Thus the following saying becomes meaningful:

The Gospel of Philip

“The soul and the spirit entered existence from water and fire. The child of the bride-chamber came into being by these and by Light. The fire is the chrism, the light is the fire, the light also is formless, we speak not of it, but the other whose form is white, which is of the light and beautiful and bestows beauty.”

The Gospel of Thomas

Jesus said:
Become, by passing away. (Logion 42)

Jesus said:
The images are revealed to man, and the light within them is hidden. It shall be revealed in the image of the light of the Father and his image is hidden by his light. (Logion 83)

Jesus said:
When you see your likeness, you rejoice but, when you see your images, which came into existence before you (and which) do not die, nor are they revealed, how much will you endure? (Logion 84)

Temperance = 14 / Devil = 15

There is a story of the Buddha which relates how, in one of His incarnations, He encounters a starving tigress with her young, and presents Himself to them as food. The story has a meaning similar to that of the Eucharistic rite. It reverses the usual order: instead of the lower being consumed (or eaten) by the higher, in a gesture of Divine generosity, the reverse process takes place. The Divine One presents Himself to be eaten. For this, if we accept the idea (which is basic to every tradition) that mankind has become alienated from God, is the necessary condition, before man, in the wholeness of his nature, can himself be consumed by the Godhead and so be made Divine. If a man in his alienated state were cast bodily into the Fire of God’s Love that Fire would be for him what the Church has called “Hell”. He could not endure it for an instant. So God, Who is that Fire, has given us to eat of Himself, so that we may after all become not “as gods” but as God. That is the meaning of the Eucharist.

“The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ” by Levi

Jesus teaching Lazarus how to pray:

Our Father-God who art in heaven, holy is Thy name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is done in heaven; Give us this day our needed bread; help us forget the debts that other people owe to us, that all our debts may be discharged; and shield us from the Tempter’s snares that are too great for us to bear; and when they come, give us the strength to overcome.

Tower = 16 / Star = 17

The moment of Life is the moment of Death, occurring on what T S Eliot calls “the point of intersection of the timeless with time”. It is on account of the absolute paradoxicality of this primal moment that the act of generation has had, from the point of view of Christianity, a double face. The orgasm of ecstasy is, in a blinding mystery which has almost never been exposed because the Church has considered it to be at once too holy and too terrible to contemplate, the cry of dereliction from the Cross. The words which follow that cry are plainer in the Latin than in the English text: It is finished – Consummatum est.

(In those Nuptials) the Mystical Union between Christ and His Church, all Christian marriages are said to co-inhere; a point which is explicitly stressed in the marriage service, and which explains why the sexual act within marriage is regarded as a sacrament. The Nuptials of the Virgin are associated with what mystics all down the ages have described as the Divine Kiss, which constitutes the Union between the soul and Christ. The Cross is the “shadow side” of this Mystery of the Kiss. In the Myth it is the dark Bride of the Crucified God. He who hangs upon it is the same Who creates the whole world by an Act of Love.

The Crucifix is a symbol corresponding to the Tantric images of coupling gods. The difference is that it expresses anguish rather than bliss. The seed of life which is spilled on the Cross is carried in a stream of blood. The Christ-figure on the Crucifix represents both the Heavenly Bridegroom Himself, and the Divine Phallus upraised in the Creative Act.

“I, if I be lifted up, shall draw all men unto Me.” (Caduceus/The World Tree/Ygg Drasil)

“And behold the veil of the temple was rent from the top to the bottom, and the earth did quake…” The veil of the temple protected the sanctuary known as the Holy of Holies which could only be entered by the High Priest. It corresponds to the hymen protecting the virginal womb. (Blessed Virgin = Shekinah = Mystery of Divine Femininity Whose Presence filled the Holy of Holies, as She hovered above and around the Ark of the Covenant.)

Also the feminine is united to her consort in the bride-chamber, and those who have united in the bride-chamber will never be divided again.

But the bride-chamber is concealed. It is the Holy of Holies… There is a Glory that is superior to glory, there is a Power which is above power. Thus the perfect things are revealed to us, and so are the hidden things of the truth; and the holy things of the Holy are disclosed, the bride-chamber calls us to enter.

St Theresa of Avila

I could not explain it. In his hands I saw a great golden spear, and at the iron tip there appeared to be a point of fire. This he plunged into my heart several times so that it penetrated to my entrails. When he pulled it out, I felt that he took them with it, and left me utterly consumed by the great love of God. The pain was so severe that it made me utter several moans. The sweetness, caused by this intense pain, was so extreme that one cannot possibly wish it to cease, nor is one’s soul then content with anything but God.

“The Secret Path” by Paul Brunton

And we may even be forced down on our knees, at unexpected hours of the night or day, to pray that the Light be granted us. If this happens, do not resist or resent it. Yield, and if you feel an urge to weep when praying for the Oversoul’s Grace, then let the tears flow copiously as they come forth. Do not hold them back. There is great spiritual merit in weeping for the visitation of a higher path. Each tear will dissolve something that stands between you and the divine union. Never be ashamed of such tears, for they fall in a good cause.

“Since you have drunk, you have become drunk with that sparkling source which I have measured out.”

“But whosoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst; the water that I shall give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

Jesus said: “He who drinks from my mouth shall become as I am, and I myself shall become him, and that which is hidden shall be revealed to him.” (Logion 108)

Nikos Kazantzakis:

And a fire within me leaps up to answer. Fire will surely come one day to purify the earth. Fire will surely come one day to obliterate the earth. This is the Second Coming.

Norman O Brown:

Speech re-sexualised. Sexual potency, linguistic power, abolished at Babel and restored at Pentecost. At Pentecost, tongues of fire, a flame in the shape of a male member.

Nicolai Berdyeau:

God will not judge the world and mankind; but a blinding light will pierce the world and man. This will be not only light, but a searing, purifying flame.

William Blake:

The ancient tradition, that the world will be consumed by fire at the end of six thousand years, is true, as I have heard from hell. For the cherub with his flaming sword is hereby commanded to leave his guard at the Tree of Life; and when he does, the whole of creation will be consumed and appear infinite and holy, whereas it now appears finite and corrupt. This will come to pass by an improvement of sensual enjoyment.

But first the notion that man has a body distinct from his soul is to be expunged…

If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.

For man has closed himself up, till he sees all things through narrow chinks in his cavern.

Misfortunes, often brought on by his odd disposition and whimsical ways, multiplied, and made him at times feel that he was the particular target of the world’s buffetings. Yet he managed to avoid the self-pity to which his contemporary Rosseau was so given. Rather, Blake saw himself as a Job, who would be the subject of one of his greatest masterpieces. Like Job, he accepted God’s chastisement as something to be endured, that would in the end purify and enlighten: “Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him.”

Job 1:21

Naked I came from the womb,
Naked I shall return whence I came.
The LORD gives and the LORD takes away;
Blessed be the name of the LORD.

Jesus said:
When you make two into one, and when you make the inner as the outer, and the outer as the inner, and the upper as the lower, and when you make male and female into a single one, so that the male shall not be male and the female shall not be female, when you make eyes instead of an eye, and a hand instead of a hand, and a foot instead of a foot, an image instead of an image, then you shall enter the kingdom. (Logion 22)

Jesus said:
He who seeks shall not cease seeking until he finds, and when he finds he is dismayed, and when he is dismayed, he is filled with wonder, and he shall become king over the All. (Logion 2)

The Prophet

By Kahlil Gibran

Then said Almitra, “Speak to us of love.” And he raised his head and looked upon the people, and there fell a stillness upon them. And with a great voice he said:

When love beckons you, follow him, Though his ways are hard and steep.

And when his wings enfold you, yield to him, Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you.

And when he speaks to you, believe in him, Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the North Winds lays waste the garden.

For even as love crowns you, so shall he crucify you.

Even as he is for your growth, so is he for your pruning.

Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun, So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth.

Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself.

He threshes you to make you naked.

He sifts you to free you from your husks.

He grinds you to whiteness.

He kneads you until you are pliant;

And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God’s sacred feast.

Games People Play

We’re not talking about Pac Man, we’re talking about P.A.C., man: Parent, Adult, Child; Transactional Analysis; I’m OK, You’re OK. (Is that OK?)

Transactional Analysis Definitions

Games People Play (cover)

According to Wikipedia:“Transactional analysis (abbreviated to TA), is a theory in psychology that examines the interactions, or ‘transactions’, between a person and other people. The underlying precept is that humans are social creatures and that a person is a multi-faceted being that changes when in contact with another person in their world. Canadian-born US psychiatrist Eric Berne developed the concept and paradigm of TA in the late 1950s.”

According to Berne, “Transactional analysis is a branch of social psychiatry, and game analysis is a special aspect of transactional analysis.”

Parent

Parent is a state in which people behave, feel, and think in response to an unconscious mimicking of how their parents (or other parental figures) acted, or how they interpreted their parent’s actions. For example, a person may shout at someone out of frustration because they learned from an influential figure in childhood the lesson that this seemed to be a way of relating that worked.(Wikipedia)

Most people have had to take on the Parent role while motivating their children to do their chores, get dressed for school, or eat their greens. For mothers, especially, this reduces the time it takes to explain why. The easier answer is ‘Because I told you to…’

Adult

Adult is a state of the ego which is most like a computer processing information and making predictions absent major emotions that could affect its operation. Learning to strengthen the Adult is a goal of TA. While a person is in the Adult ego state, he/she is directed towards an objective appraisal of reality. (Wikipedia)

Even children have an Adult ego state: that’s when they provide reasonable answers to questions, and sometimes can be spot-on in their assessments of situations. My sister, Anne, at three years of age, once replied, ‘I said, probably‘ when questioned about something she had declared at the kitchen table.

Child

Child is a state in which people behave, feel, and think similarly to how they did in childhood. For example, a person who receives a poor evaluation at work may respond by looking at the floor and crying or pouting, as when scolded as a child. Conversely, a person who receives a good evaluation may respond with a broad smile and a joyful gesture of thanks. The Child is the source of emotions, creation, recreation, spontaneity, and intimacy. (Wikipedia)

For years, we have been advised to ‘let the Inner Child out.’ We instinctively know what that means.

If It Weren’t For You (IWFY)

Transactional Analysis

Using just one example from the many that are explained in Eric Berne’s 1964 book, “Games People Play”, we can see how the interaction between a married couple carries a load of emotional baggage.

“Briefly, a woman marries a domineering man so that he will restrict her activities and thus keep her from getting into situations which frighten her. If this were a simple operation, she might express her gratitude when he performed this service for her. In the game of IWFY, however, her reaction is quite the opposite: she takes advantage of the situation to complain about the restrictions, which makes her spouse feel uneasy and gives her all sorts of advantages. This game is the internal social advantage. The external social advantage is the derivative pastime “If It Weren’t For Him,” which she plays with her congenial lady friends.”

TA Explanation of IWFY

The following is the analysis as provided by Berne:

Thesis. This is a general description of the game, including the immediate sequence of events (the social level) and information about their psychological background, evolution and significance (the psychological level). In the case of “If It Weren’t For You” Marital Type, the details already given will serve. For the sake of brevity, this game will henceforth be referred to as IWFY. (Please notice that IWFY is an anagram of WIFY.)

Antithesis. The presumption that a certain sequence constitutes a game is tentative until it has been existentially validated. This validation is carried out by a refusal to play or by undercutting the payoff. The one who is “it” will then make more intense efforts to continue the game. In the face of adamant refusal to play or a successful undercutting he will then lapse into a state called “despair,” which in some respects resembles a depression, but is different in significant ways. It is more acute and contains elements of frustration and bewilderment. It may be manifested, for example, by the onset of perplexed weeping. In a successful therapeutic situation this may soon be replaced by humorous laughter, implying an Adult realization: “There I go again!” Thus despair is a concern of the Adult, while in depression it is the Child who has the executive power. Hopefulness, enthusiasm or a lively interest in one’s surroundings is the opposite of depression; laughter is the opposite of despair. Hence the enjoyable quality of therapeutic game analysis. The antithesis to IWFY is permissiveness. As long as the husband is prohibitive, the game can proceed. If instead of saying “Don’t you dare!” he says “Go ahead!” the underlying phobias are unmasked, and the wife can no longer turn on him, as demonstrated in Mrs. White’s case.

IWFY is a two-handed game and calls for a restricted wife and a domineering husband. The wife may play her role either as a prudent Adult (“It’s best that I do as he says”) or as a petulant Child. The domineering husband may preserve an Adult ego state (“It’s best that you do as I say”) or slip into a Parental one (“You’d better do what I say”).

Examples

Since the childhood origins of a game, or its infantile prototypes, are instructive to study, it is worth-while to search for such cognates in making a formal description. It happens that IWFY is just as frequently played by little children as by grown-ups, so the childhood version is the same as the later one, with the actual parent substituted for the restricting husband.

Transactional Paradigm. The transactional analysis of a typical situation is presented, giving both the social and psychological levels of a revealing ulterior transaction. In its most dramatic form, IWFY at the social level is a Parent-Child game.

Mr. White: “You stay home and take care of the house.”
Mrs. White: “If it weren’t for you, I could be out having fun.”

At the psychological level (the ulterior marriage contract) the relationship is Child-Child, and quite different.

Mr. White: “You must always be here when I get home. I’m terrified of desertion.”
Mrs. White: “I will be if you help me avoid phobic situations.”

Conclusion

We cannot help ‘playing the game’ because socially that’s what we’re programmed to do. However, when one person chooses to react in a way that the other person is not expecting or inviting, the result is frustration of the game. That’s the equivalent of ‘talking at cross purposes.’

A Knight Journey: Awakening to The Power of Dreams

I was introduced to Samantha Carr (via Facebook) by my daughter Amy. Samantha’s book was published in 2009. A lot of her experiences echoed my own. I feel connected to her.

Meet Samantha Carr

Samantha Carr Birth Chart

Samantha has allowed me to post her birth chart here. She openly discusses her birth details, early life and health problems in the first chapter of her book. As we have seen with other spiritual people, these details are important for understanding where she is coming from. (Of significance is the South Node conjunct to her Ascendant, opposition to Pluto: this is a spiritually dynamic individual.)

The back cover of her book explains more: “A Knight Journey is a voyage of self discovery through the power of dreams. Far beyond that, this book explains how the author’s understanding of life has been stretched to new dimensions through direct experiences. This book shows how we can all experience, rather than believe in multi-dimensional reality.”

It goes on to describe Samantha’s methodology: “Throughout the book Samantha has labelled these experiences as ‘dreams’ because that is the simplest explanation for them, however, they are so much more than that. At times Samantha has been guided to new career opportunities, courses and relationships. At other times she has found herself flying in astral state over sacred sites and talking to multi-dimensional beings about UFOs and crop circles. She describes dream research into the Knights Templar and the Holy Grail. Underpinning the whole of the book is the vibration of the Goddess and her wisdom which surrounds us all.”

Jesus and the Cross

A Knight Journey (cover)

As an example of her dream work, here is an extended quotation from her book, starting at page 66:

Around this period I began to have some more interesting dreams about esoteric subjects. In one of these dreams I was in a Catholic church at a wedding. I was sat at the back of the church and as I looked on at the ceremony I became very angry. I looked up at the stained glass image of Jesus on the cross and I jumped out of my pew and ran towards the priest. I was shouting “Jesus didn’t die on a cross — he died on a Tau!”

I woke up surprised at my anger and I laughed a little about the scenario. I couldn’t ever imagine being rude to a priest or shouting at someone’s wedding. I had no idea what a ‘Tau’ was or what this was a reference to. I just thought it was odd that my higher self should think that Jesus didn’t die on a cross when all the literature said this quite plainly.

Her dream interpretation work is then documented and she found quite a few literary and visual connections to the idea of Jesus dying on a Tau, including the idea that it may have been dream code for ‘Tao’, “The Way”.

Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?” Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:5-6)

Conclusion

Samantha’s book reads like a mystery novel, written as a first-person narrative. She hints several times, quite openly, that she may, in fact, be a Star Child. I heartily recommend that you find some time to read this book, too, as the experience will trigger a lot of unconscious memories and help you to discover your own Truth.

A Thief in the Night

Keep a sharp lookout

We think we are aware of the minutiae of our lives, but the truth is we are sleepwalking through everyday events, without realizing what is going on.

A Thief in the Night

Back in the Old Days, thieves coming to snatch
Ev’rything, could do so by digging through
Walls of your house, necessitating you
And your kinsmen to take turns at the latch.
Recently, a subtler sort of thieving batch,
Evading detection, silent like Sioux
Out on a hunting party, our Vishnu
From within, lies in wait, hoping to catch
A lapse in attention: its purpose is
To weed out the creators from the drones.
Heed these words: if you really must insist
In sleeping through the best that your life owns,
Expect to wake up someday without your
Freedom; friendless, frightened and a failure.

Mrs Green, Medium

Bayfield Mall waterfall

The now defunct waterfall

Mrs Green

Have you ever had a reading done by a medium? It’s a very interesting process: most of the time, you are asked ‘cold’ questions, by which the medium can pinpoint possible connections you may have to those who have departed from this world. It seems fraudulent. But what if someone you knows comes through? That’s a whole other situation.

On May 6th, 1987, my friend, Kate, wanted to know if she and I had had a prior life connection, so she took me to see Mrs Green, in Reading, Berkshire, for a reading.

ReadingMrsGreenWREJC1

The Reading

Mrs Green was an ordinary middle-aged woman, with no outward show of any mediumistic skills. She also smoked a lot, which in those days was still considered socially acceptable. (Later, I was to realize that people who work with spiritual gifts need cigarette smoke to create a barrier against negative influence. I think they call that ‘fighting fire with fire’.)

I’d never sat in front of a medium before, so I was determined to make her do all the running, as it were, without giving clues to anyone or anything in my life.

She started slowly, trying to make connections, but mostly without success. At one point, she said, “You don’t feel a connection with those on the Other Side, do you?” I had to admit that was true.

Then she brought up the fact that I had two children by different mothers, “a boy and a girl” (with a 50-50 chance of getting it right, or wrong). She told me that they would meet one day and that they would definitely recognize each other (but that seemed unlikely, since my son liked in Canada and my daughter lived in England).

Then she spoke of a woman who had come through with a message for my Mom. “Tell her that I want to offer her a rose. The rose, to me,” said Mrs Green, “is symbolic of a peace offering from someone who didn’t get on with another in their relationship.” (That could have been anyone, I thought.) “But the rose is not a name, in this instance.” (Later on, I recognized that it would have been Mom’s adoptive mother, Elsie.)

Then a young man came through. He referenced the fact that we used to work together at the mall with a fountain in it. (OK, so now I’m wracking my brains to figure out who this might be.) He mentioned that he’d died as the result of a motorcycle accident, and that he hadn’t wanted to leave his new wife, or this life, so soon. (Ping: it’s Rob Rudd, my best friend from Angus – we’d formed a rock band in 1965 – who had died in early 1978 from complications of that accident. What was he doing, here, in England, he’d died in Canada?)

Evidently, Rob wanted to get a message to his brother, because Mrs Green suddenly said, “David.” I confirmed that was Rob’s brother’s name (I couldn’t hold back relevant facts any longer). “He wants you to try to get a message to him because his brother isn’t taking it very well that your friend is dead.”

Then ensued a short discussion on the chances of my going back to Canada for a visit any time soon. (The seed was planted that spring day in 1987: I returned to Barrie, Ontario in late September of that year, to visit with Rob’s widow, and to telephone David about my reading with Mrs Green.)

Mrs Green wrapped up the reading, handed me the cassette recording, and bid me “Bon voyage.”

Kate wanted to listen to it in the car back to Bracknell, where I was living at the time. She took the fact that she and I did not come up in the reading as a sign that we were not meant to be together, so that was when our relationship started to change.

Rob Rudd

Rob, Deb, David and his wife Darlene

To backtrack a little now, let me tell you a bit about Rob. He was the youngest of three boys who had all been born in Liverpool, and had emigrated with their parents to Canada (I believe in the late 1950’s). Rob was a cheeky sort of chap, with a natural Scouser accent, and attitude.

When my parents, my three sisters and I, moved to Angus in 1965, we lived in the Manse next to the United Church. Rob’s family lived in the house that backed onto the Manse property. So we used to literally hop the fence between our homes.

Already, Rob was a budding rock star, in the sense that he could play guitar quite well. So I started to learn, too, and soon we were good enough to start The Bare Necessities (as we called our quartet = very little equipment) by inviting Darrell Freeman and George Danyleyko to join us.

After high school, I started to work at Mostyn’s Men’s Wear in downtown Barrie. Rob was looking for a job, so I got him hired to work with me in the store. Then Stan Mostyn decided to open up a second store, this time in the newly opened Bayfield Mall. (That’s where the waterfall was: a wall of water cascading down in the lowest part of the mall; not a fountain, at all.) Rob switched to the mall store, as he liked the hours better there.

Then, in 1973, I quit Mostyn’s to work for the Bank of Nova Scotia. Within two years, I’d decided to relocate to British Columbia, on my own. Saying goodbye, Rob hugged me and told me to keep safe.

I came back for a visit in late 1976, ostensibly to see my son, Derek. I stayed with Rob and his new wife, Debbie. But my comings and goings made him feel that I was just using their place as a bed and breakfast lodging, and when I returned to BC, he cut ties with me.

By 1977, I’d moved back to Ontario from BC, living and working in St Catharines. I called Rob one day after my return, but his response was cool.

Then, in 1978, I’d heard from my ex-wife, Judi, that Rob had died, and I felt terrible that we had never resolved our differences.

Rob, Again

Two years ago, my present wife, Susan, and I started to attend a spiritualist church. (It was more a gathering of people in a conference room in a hotel, but church is what it was in spite of that.) Over the weeks, we listened carefully as other people received readings from the guest medium of the week. Those readings seemed genuine, but never specific enough for there to be an a-ha moment.

Then one Sunday, there was no guest medium, so the lady in charge of the group did the reading. When she started to read me, I was surprised to hear words that could only come from Rob. He said, through her, “I know you’re worried about your children, and especially your son: just remember what we were like back in the day; he’ll be all right.”

Could it be possible that he is still hanging around? To me, it was a revelation. Rob had not moved on in the spirit world, I guess, because he still was watching out for those he cared about. This meant he also cared about me.

Love is the reason for continuing connections with those who have moved to the Other Side of Life. It is the one thing that endures when all else fades away.

So, my message to you, if you have any questions or concerns about death, is this: Love is the answer.

The Kingdom of Heaven is Within

kingdom of heaven

Look Within

Knowledge of oneself can provide valid

Insights into Man’s purpose in the world.

Never before has he needed the ‘Id’,

Generally misunderstood, unfurled

Deep within, to be raised on the flag pole

Of Life, so that the ‘Ego’ can salute

Man’s true heritage, not the damned Black Hole

Of Calcutta where he’s been a deaf-mute.

Heaven can’t help us if we turn a blind

Eye to the truth: we don’t know anything

And yet feel smug about Power of Mind;

Vacuums can’t hear the songs the spirits sing!

Each must look within, see the Holy Light:

Nothing brings us closer to our birthright.

It’s a good question: Who Are You? Answer: A Consciousness

Consciousness-Universe

Self-Remembering

Ask yourself this question: Am I awake?

Consciousness can make you very aware

Of what the face behind the mask you wear

Now really is; and the knowledge will shake

So-called analysts up and thereby break

Controlling thought-form barriers down, where

Indulgence has led many to forswear

On themselves that they know they do not fake.

Useless liars, all of them: they cannot

See themselves as just robotic machines

Needing to get in touch with their Essence.

Essence is the power source to be sought,

Subdued, and developed: this only means

Spirit must be tapped for Life to make sense.

George Harrison: The Mystic Beatle

The-world-is-ready-for-a-mystic-revolution

The Mystic

Hare KRSNA, hare KRSNA, he sang

And, in doing so, opened the West up:

Regardless of how each fills his soul’s cup,

Religion plays a part for Yin and Yang.

Indirectly involved, the need to hang

Spiritual Avatars, our stirrup

Over the Beast, makes Man a toothless pup:

Not able to cut out the Tiger’s Fang.

Great men have led the way over the years,

Enabling some to understand that they’ve

Obligations to themselves and others.

Religious Mystics cry bittersweet tears,

Grieving that Man cannot even be saved,

Ere he meets his Spiritual Brothers.

Are We Prisoners of the New Technologies?

Tron

The Prisoner

Controlled from somewhere out of line of fire,

Ordered to do that which he cannot see,

Man acquiesces, acting as if free,

Prepared to accept his conscience’s ire.

Until he comprehends that his entire

Traumatic situation has to be

Endured only if he chooses, will he

Realize not to what he must aspire.

Prisoner in his body, he hears sounds

Recorded in his brain as bits of noise:

Organized confusion to keep him blind.

Gradually he’ll see over the bounds

Restricting his vision: there will he poise,

Mechanical Man becalming his Mind.
