Who Owns the Copyright of an Image?

Permission is required to reproduce a photograph, although once it’s on the internet, that permission is seldom requested. But what about the image? Who owns the copyright of that?

Audrey Hepburn

The question of who owns the copyright of an image was raised by my son-in-law Ross when he requested the right to use Audrey Hepburn’s image for an advertising campaign. Ross contacted her family and they turned him down flat.

The image in question was the one where she’s holding a cigarette for the “Breakfast at Tiffiny’s” advertising campaign. Ross wanted to change the cigarette to a ‘vape’ (e-cigarette). Their reason for refusal was that their mother had died from cancer and they did not want to have her image associated with smoking in any form.

My first thought was, “I can understand why.”

Out of respect for the family, I will not reproduce either image here, but it made me stop and ponder the question of copyright.

The Swans of Dartington Hall

The Dartington Swans

In 1991, Morwenna Lloyd and I formed a short term publishing partnership called “Quill, Inc”. We worked on several Fountain Trust Publishing projects during the following two years, including “The Wellspring”, which I shall be reviewing shortly on these page.

We also had posters made of a photograph I took at Dartington Hall, Devon. It was a statue of two swans, set in a fountain on the grounds of the Dartington Hall Trust. We then tried to market them through the Dartington Hall Trust, only to be told that they hold the copyright of the image of the swans and that we could not use it.

I wrote back to them, explaining that, although they hold the copyright of the statue, they can not control what I did with a photograph of it that I had taken personally. We never heard back from them.

The Spirit Catcher of Barrie

Barrie Spirit Catcher

Now, all these years later, I have come up against the same thinking again. Here is Wikipedia’s entry for the Spirit Catcher.

“Ron Baird’s Spirit Catcher is a sculpture originally created by sculptor Ron Baird for Expo 86 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. It is now situated on the shore of Kempenfelt Bay, in Barrie, Ontario, Canada.

“Nine sculptors were asked to submit proposals for Expo 86, and two were chosen to be commissioned. The sculpture took six months to sculpt using COR-TEN steel; this alloy develops a non-corrosive oxide and retains its structural integrity. The work was originally installed on the Expo 86 exhibition grounds in Vancouver, British Columbia.

“After the end of the exposition, the sculpture was purchased by the Helen McCrea Peacock Foundation in Toronto for CAD $230,000. The foundation then donated the sculpture to the ‘Barrie Gallery Project’ as an inspiration to create an art gallery in the city of Barrie, Ontario, Canada. The twenty ton, 25 m (70 ft) wide by 21 m (65 ft) tall sculpture was transported to Barrie using two flatbed trucks, and was installed by volunteers and two cranes. It took two days during the weekend of 12 June and 13 June 1987, and was dedicated on 12 September 1987.

“The sculpture has 16 kinetic quills, which rock back and forth when the wind blows. Several months after it was erected on the site in Barrie, the unpredictable winds coming onshore from Kempenfelt Bay caused concern that the quills might fall off. The quills were redesigned by the artist with the assistance of Mike Davies, the recently retired vice president of advanced engineering at de Havilland aircraft.

The sculpture is a focal point on the Barrie waterfront, and serves as both a meeting place and navigational aid to travellers and citizens of the city alike. The installation of the sculpture initiated a drive to place numerous pieces of art around the city which continues to this day”

The owner of the sculpture is the MacLaren Art Centre. It seems that if you want to reproduce a picture of the Spirit Catcher, you need to contact them for permission.

Conclusion

Does this happen in other parts of the world? Is the Sydney Opera House image subject to copyright, for example? Is the Taj Mahal? What about all those tourists who merrily snap photos of local landmarks and post them on their social networking pages? Do they need permission every time?

There is something not quite (copy)right about this way of thinking. Next thing, we’ll have to “declare the pennies on our eyes…”

The Cathar Prophecy of 1244 AD

In 1978 on a visit to Montsegur in the Cathar country of South West France, Colin Bloy had dowsed in a meadow where 300 Perfecti were burned alive in 1244. The dowsing revealed a Latin text which referred to the rebuilding of a church in Andorra in 1986.

Proclamation of the Church of Love

In March 1985, Colin Bloy was prompted to write the proclamation of the Church of Love – he said the words were not his – and this Church was proclaimed in Andorra on Good Friday, 28th March 1986.

Colin said: “This was written by my hand, but I would not claim authorship; it was taken down in ten minutes – just like that!”

“Although this was written to fulfil a fourteenth century prophecy that the Cathar Church would be restored in 1986, I believe it is a statement relevant to all Fountaineers and that we too are part of the Church of Love.”

“It’s a bit of a special church and I don’t want you to get confused over the word ‘church’, because it means ‘communion’, ecclesia in Greek, nothing more.”

The Text of the Proclamation

LoveChurchofWREJC1A

In accordance with an old prophecy…

The Church of Love is proclaimed in 1986.

It has no fabric – only understanding.

It has no membership – save those who know they belong.

It has no rivals – because it is non-competitive.

It has no ambition, because it only seeks to serve.

It knows of no boundaries, for nationalisms are unloving.

It is not of itself because it seeks to enrich all groups and religions.

It acknowledges all great teachers of all the ages who have shown the truth of Love.

Those who participate practice the Truth of Love in all their daily being.

There is no walk of life or nationality that is a barrier.

Those who are, know. It seeks not to teach but to be, and by being, enrich.

It recognises the collectivity of all humanity and that we are all one with the One.

It recognises that the way we are may be the way of those around us because we are that way.

It recognises the whole planet as a Being, of which we are a part.

It recognises that the time has come for the supreme transmutation, the ultimate alchemical act, the conscious change of the ego into a voluntary return to the whole.

It does not proclaim itself with a loud voice but in the subtle realms of loving.

It salutes all those in the past who have blazoned the path but paid the price.

It admits of no hierarchy or structure, for no one is greater than another.

Its members shall know each other by their deeds and being and their eyes and by no other outward sign, save the fraternal embrace.

Each one will dedicate his or her life to the silent loving of their neighbour and environment and the planet, whilst carrying out their daily task, however exalted or humble.

It recognises the supremacy of the great idea which may only be accomplished if the human race practices the supremacy of Love.

It has no rewards to offer, either here or in the hereafter, save that of the ineffable joy of being and loving.

Its members shall seek only to advance the cause of understanding, within whichever church, group or family they happen to be.

They shall do good by stealth and teach only by example.

They shall heal their neighbour, their community and our Planet.

They shall know no fear, and feel no shame and their witness shall prevail over all odds.

It has no secrets, no arcanum, no initiations save that of the true understanding of the power of love and that, if we want it to be so, the world will change but only if we change ourselves first.

ALL THOSE WHO BELONG, BELONG, THAT IS THE CHURCH OF LOVE.

Many churches, groups and sects are impositions by the few on the many, preying on weakness.

The Church of Love is the reverse, it liberates and promoted individual strength.

Such vestigial structure as it eventually may have, must come from those who know they are a part of it.

The Moody Blues: Solo artists circa 1975-77

th1F55Z1IY

In 1974, the band members of the Moody Blues decided to take a break. When Mike Pinder tried to reunite them in 1975, the response was weak. Why? Because they were working on solo projects.

In 1975, the Moody Blues split up

Or so it seemed at the time. For those of us who were fans, this was like the Beatles’ split all over again. However, like the Beatles, the solo efforts of the band members would more than make up for the lack of Moody Blues’ music.

This is my recap of the albums that they released during their hiatus. I hope you enjoy the music videos.

Blue Jays – Justin Hayward and John Lodge

It was a clever play on words, the title of their joint album: the Canadian national bird’s name would ensure great sales in Canada.

Hayward and Lodge released a duo album, the very successful Blue Jays (1975), and a UK chart single, “Blue Guitar” (no. 8), which was credited to Hayward and Lodge even though it was actually just Hayward with 10cc backing him. The album had originally been a projected liaison between Hayward and Pinder, but after Pinder dropped out, John Lodge stepped in. (Wikipedia)

Then the two J’s decided to do solo albums.

Songwriter – Justin Hayward

As Justin had the more familiar voice on most pf the Moody Blues’ records, his first solo album sold very well.

He has continued to release several other solo efforts, even after the Moodies reunited.

Natural Avenue – John Lodge

John produced only one album in 1977.

He re-released this album as a CD in 1987.

From Mighty Oaks – Ray Thomas

Ray, who usually played the flute on the Moody Blues’ songs, also tried his hand at writing and singing a wholealbum.

He followed this album up with “Hopes, Wishes and Dreams”.

Kick Off Your Muddy Boots – The Graeme Edge Band

Graeme teamed with Adrian Gurvitz to produce the first of two albums together.

The second album was called “Paradise Ballroom”.

The Promise – Mike Pinder

Mike, who was the musical director of the Moody Blues live performances, also produced one album at the time.

His second album waited until 1995. It was called “Among the Stars”.

Octave – The Moody Blues

When the Moody Blues reunited in 1978, the album they produced contained all their individualities in one place again. My favourite song from it was “Steppin’ in a Slide Zone”.

Although I had loved their individual efforts, I breathed a sigh of relief when they got back together. The world needed their collective work. We needed the Moody Blues.

Earth: Pleiadian Keys to the Living Library

In 1995, Barbara Marciniak published a book that purported to be channelled from inhabitants of the Pleiades. I am going to focus on a couple of paragraphs from the chapter called “The Heavens Speak”. The words seem to explain Astrology spiritually.

A Slice of Time

Earth

Courtesy of amazon.ca

As we have noticed previously in posts by others on social media sites, there seems to be a problem with understanding exactly how Astrology works. Barbara Marciniak had this to say about it:

“Before you came into this reality, you applied for a slice of time — the moment you were born. At the precise time of your birth, the stars, planets, moon, and sun were in a specific configuration. When you emerged from your mother’s womb, the energy from the stars and planets imprinted your flesh, no matter where you were, because the energy was touching Earth at that time as well. Within that moment were written certain probabilities, specific opportunities, and distinct challenges.”

I like to refer to the birth chart as the blueprint of your life. That is to say, it is the ideal that your actual life can be measured by.

“The language of the stars explains your world in a way that is helpful for you to understand the bigger picture. Everything is in geometric relationship to everything else, creating energetic patterns. You yourself selected a moment and a lineage, a bloodline that you were born to, to give you the opportunities that you assessed would be ideal for you to experience in this lifetime. You determined these experiences according to what you needed to learn, based on what you had created, will create, and are creating simultaneously in other places.”

As Above, So Below

The Ancients understood the concept of ‘correspondence’ better than we do today. We use the term ‘analogy’ now, but we have forgotten its true meaning.

“The heavens speak to you of your own majestic splendor, playing out their story through you. The planets broadcast their life force as electromagnetic waves that create cycles, within which significant achievements, designed as challenges and victories, define specific epochs or ages. These cycles, if understood, will automatically benefit the planet. The cycles have been ignored and trivialized to keep you in ignorance, causing you to miss the tremendous self-realization that accompanies the meaning of life.”

This was done by scientists focussing only on Astronomy and ignoring Astrology as quackery.

“One of the ways the teachings of the cycles became lost was through the disputing and refuting of astrology. You have been told that astrology is a meaningless study, when in actuality astrology and astonomy are the languages of the universe. In its truest form, knowledge of the heavens translates the macrocosm into the microcosm, acknowledging you within a significant slice of existence.”

The Eyes Have It

We have been hoodwinked, I believe. The correspondence between the heavens and we inhabitants here on earth is more profound than perhaps we originally thought.

“One day the reading of astrological charts will reveal a correspondence between the alignment of planets and the arrangement of DNA. Currently, there are twelve houses in the zodiac, and there are twelve strands of DNA. The twelve strands of DNA are eventually going to show themselves in the iris of the eye, and you will be able to read the genetic purpose within the iris. If you divide the iris into twelve houses, like the wheel in a birthchart, each house will correspond to its own place in the body, much as it corresponds to a person’s astrological imprinting of planetary and stellar energies at birth.”

This is already being done with Iridology, as demonstrated in this YouTube video.

http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/k6jy-VGpUE8?rel=0

“Through a reflection in the eye, the twleve strands of DNA will eventually reveal their genetic codes of purpose and intent as stored in the blood. Many so-called mysteries will be revealed, liberating you from further deceit. It is through the eyes that you peek into the window of the soul, and where the deepest imprinting and exchange occurs among all species.”

Conclusion

I will let Barbara’s final words on this subject speak for themselves.

“Long ago, astrology and astronomy were one. When the left brain came into great activity and the plan surfaced to create a false ego or scientific mind to steer humans away from themselves, the truths became ridiculed. Ancient laws became a mockery, and you were sent back onto the planet to honor and reawaken these truths.”

Nostradamus: King of Terror?

TSE1999Europe

What happens when a prophecy is shown to be wrong, as they often are? Do we throw out the baby with the bathwater, or do we try to understand what the prophet was trying to convey?

Who was Nostradamus?

Nostradamus-Predictions-ISIS

Courtesy of predictionsofnostradamus.com

According to Wikipedia, Michel de Nostredame (depending on the source, 14 or 21 December 1503 – 2 July 1566), usually Latinised as Nostradamus, was a French apothecary and reputed seer who published collections of prophecies that have since become famous worldwide. He is best known for his book “Les Propheties”, the first edition of which appeared in 1555. Since the publication of this book, which has rarely been out of print since his death, Nostradamus has attracted a following that, along with much of the popular press, credits him with predicting many major world events.

Here’s what Wikipedia says about his methods: “Nostradamus claimed to base his published predictions on judicial astrology—the astrological ‘judgement’, or assessment, of the ‘quality’ (and thus potential) of events such as births, weddings, coronations etc.—but was heavily criticised by professional astrologers of the day such as Laurens Videl for incompetence and for assuming that ‘comparative horoscopy’ (the comparison of future planetary configurations with those accompanying known past events) could actually predict what would happen in the future.”

In my opinion, he was quite proficient at Astrology, as we shall see.

The Prophecies: Century 10, Quatrain 72

TerrorKingofWREJC1

“L’an mil neuf cens nonante neuf sept mois,
Du ciel viendra un gran Roy d’effrayeur.
Resusciter le grand Roy d’Angolmois.
Avant apres Mars regner par bon heur.”

Morgana’s Observatory translates this quatrain as:
“The year 1999, seventh month,
From the sky will come a great King of Terror.
To bring back to life the great King of the Mongols,
Before and after Mars to reign by good luck.”

King of Terror: a Solar Eclipse?

Often, we forget how frightened people in the middle ages were of solar eclipses. To them, it was a sign from heaven of God’s disfavour with mankind. Think of it this way: every day, the sun comes up in the morning, and goes down in the evening; it’s so predictable, you could set your clock by it (if you had one). But, suddenly, in the middle of the day, God turns out the light! Wouldn’t that be scary, if you didn’t know the mechanics of the event?

So, when Nostradamus predicts a King of Terror coming in July 1999, he is foretelling of a future solar eclipse and describing the past population’s fear of such events.

11 August 1999 – Total Eclipse of the Sun

We didn’t have a total eclipse of the sun at the end of July as Nortradamus predicted. It happened on 11 August 1999.

http://www.youtube-nocookie.com/embed/WBIyYCdwX1k?rel=0

I was living in Torquay, Devon at the time of the eclipse, and although we were completely cloud-covered, the event had an eerie quality to it. The birds, who had been singing quite happily throughout the morning, went completely quiet when darkness fell. (No doubt they thought it was nightfall.)

Having never experienced a total eclipse of the sun before, I can say it is a memory I will never forget.

How did Nostradamus get it so wrong?

In September 1752, the Julian Calendar was replaced by the Gregorian Calendar. But in order to get the dates to coincide properly, 11 days were dropped. See the following link for the background:http://www.timeanddate.com/calendar/julian-gregorian-switch.html

Now, as Nostradamus, if you make a prediction in 1555, and the authorities lose 11 days from the calendar in 1752, your prediction is going to be out by 11 days. Thus 31 July 1999 becomes 11 August 1999. His prediction therefore is spot on.

Conclusion

Others write about Astrology having no real purpose in modern society: it’s just a bit of fun, to be read as a daily horoscope in the newspaper or on-line over your morning coffee.

I disagree: Astrology has always been a good predictive tool for an understanding of future events. Is there anything more compelling than a 16th Century prophecy of a late 20th Century event? I don’t think so.

The rest of the quatrain has apparently come to pass, as well. China has become a force to be reckoned with in world diplomacy and economics. Could anyone else have seen that happening ahead of time?

And Mars (as a symbol of war) has had a lot of exercise lately, hasn’t he? So much for thinking we are in control of our destiny, eh?

Cracking the Apocalypse Code

In 1999, Gerard Bodson published a French version of this book which uncovers the ‘shocking secrets of The Book of Revelation’. Now, almost 15 years later, the truth is beginning to be revealed in our daily lives.

The Number of the Beast

Cracking the Apocalypse Code cover

This will be familiar territory for anyone who has been persuaded that Nero Caesar in Greek equals 666. What if I told you that Adolph Hitler, Austria in Hebrew equals 666? Wouldn’t that make more sense, since Nero was supposed to have been dead 30 years by the time Revelation was written?

This was the starting point for Gerard Bodson and his international team of experts in 1992.

World War II

Stalingrad

There are two major conflicts in John of Patmos’ vision. The first, by their reckoning, was the World War II, which started to unravel for the German war machine after 42 months of conflict in 1943. In fact, like Napoleon before him, Hitler’s armed forces were defeated by the Russians, this time at Stalingrad.

The ending of the war was finally accomplished by dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

A Thousand Years

Lincoln-Kennedy Coincidence?

Between the first major conflict, the battle between Gog (the Axis) and Magog (the Allies) and the second was supposed to be an interval of 1000 years. As always a 1000 years is but the passing of a night in the eyes of God, so the detail could have just been a great number of years.

By referring to the correspondences between Abraham Lincoln and John F Kennedy, the team decided that the next conflict would occur in just 100 years!

World War III

ThreeWorldWarWREJC1
World War III

Using the Alpha and Omega statements as a way to explain their thinking, the team worked out that a nuclear bomb would be dropped on Tokyo on February 5, 2043. This time Gog would be represented by the Red Army from China (backed by North Korea) and Magog would be the rest of the world (perhaps including Russia, or not, as the case might be).

Because of nuclear proliferation in the world, four continents would be devastated, and with a reliance on fossil fuels still, the remnants of China and the rest of the world would then join forces to march on the Middle East, the final conflict we know as Armageddon.

Conclusion

The Late Great Planet Earth cover

What is amazing about all this is that Hal Lindsey, in his book “The Late, Great Planet Earth”, predicted a similar scenario. Add to that Nostradamus‘ prediction that a Chinese conqueror would return after 1999, and we have a very interesting situation shaping up in the future.

However, the final result was not revealed in Revelation, nor in this book. So it will be a ‘watch this space‘ kind of event, when it comes.

You have been warned!

Cosmos and Psyche: Intimations of a New World View

Have you ever wondered why certain types of historical events seem to recur on a fairly frequent basis? This book explains it in a way that makes sense of the whys and wherefores.

The Transformation of the Cosmos

Cosmos and Psyche cover

Before the scientific age dawned, Man was at the centre of the Universe. Then Copernicus decided that the Sun was the centre of our local solar system and not the Earth, and Man became alienated with the Cosmos (according to the author Richard Tarnas). But, at the time, the scientists saw it all so differently.

Tarnas quotes Kepler: “Now, since the dawn eighteen months ago, since the broad daylight three months ago, and since a few days ago, when the full Sun illuminated my wonderful speculations, nothing holds me back. I yield freely to the sacred frenzy; I dare frankly to confess that I have stolen the golden vessels of the Egyptians to build a tabernacle for my God far from the bounds of Egypt. If you pardon me, I shall rejoice; if you reproach me, I shall endure. The die is cast, and I am writing the book — to be read either now or by posterity, it matters not. It can wait a century for a reader, as God himself has waited six thousand years for a witness.”

In those days, scientists were much more in tune with religious thought. In fact, as is shown by the above passage, Kepler felt this breakthrough was a divine revelation.

Old World View versus New World View

New World View Emerging

Because mankind had an ego-centric point of view about the Cosmos, the thought was that Man could influence the God(s) and that made life bearable. When the rug was pulled out from under his feet, Man felt that the Universe had turned into a mechanistic, non-caring entity, thereby removing Man’s ability to effect change. In other words, God was dead.

Science then became the new religion. Science could explain all. Who needed a God when Man could use his Reason to comprehend the workings of the Universe? Now, instead of being part of the All, we could stand apart from it and observe what was happening.

Astrology versus Astronomy

Astronomy vs Astrology

That change was the reason that Astronomy became the primary scientific focus and Astrology got relegated to a pseudo-science. But we then began to neglect our primary connection to the Universe: As above, so below.

In the book Mysticism and Science: A Call for Reconciliation, the author, S. Abhayananda, suggests: “Though Tarnas is clearly an exception, there is a tendency among many of the purveyors of the newly formulated synchronistic world-view to omit or entirely dismiss the concept of an ultimate intelligent Cause, immanent within Its own creation. Acausal connections within the Whole do not eliminate the requirement of a Cause for the Whole itself. We must not simply take the ‘implicate order’ to be an independent a priori substratum. There is a supreme ruler from whom the implicate order derives, who generated the universe and set it in motion, who is its efficient and its material Cause as well as its underlying order, and who permeates every particle of the Whole.”

Tarnas’s triumph is that he then takes the cycles and aspects between the slower-moving planets in our solar system, and demonstrates how their energies are reflected in political and social upheavals that have been regularly recurring since the mid-18th century.

Conclusion

Richard Tarnas

The blurb on the back cover of the book sums it up the best: “In Cosmos and Psyche. distinguished philosopher and cultural historian Richard Tarnas demonstrates the existence of an astonishingly consistent correspondence between planetary alignments and the archetypal patterns of human history and biography. Based on thirty years of meticulous research, this brilliant book points to a radical change in our understanding of the cosmos, shining new light on the drama of history, and on our own critical age. It opens up a new cosmic horizon the reunites science and religion, intellect and soul, modern reason and ancient wisdom.”

I heartily recommend this book if you wish to gain an understanding of the reasons behind the stories we watch on the daily news. It all makes so much more sense than the idea that this is a clock-work Universe and humans act in a random fashion.

As above, so below.

Edgar Cayce: An American Prophet

If you’ve ever wondered how someone becomes psychic, the author of this book, Sidney D. Kirkpatrick, delves into Edgar Cayce’s life story, and unearths details that, when viewed all together, provide the answers to this and many other questions.

Humble Beginnings

CayceEdgarWREJC1
Edgar Cayce

In his book, Sidney D. Kirkpatrick starts right at the beginning, citing Edgar Cayce’s birth time as the equivalent of 3:20 pm on Sunday, March 18, 1877. Checking my Kepler 7.0 program, he is listed at 3:03 pm local time, so that is the time I used for his birth chart.

Edgar’s paternal grandfather, Tom Cayce, had the gift of ‘second sight’. “The talent that Tom had as a ‘water witch,’ or dowser, has never been disputed. He would cut a forked limb from a peach tree, grasp a branch in each hand, and, holding the limb in front of his chest, walk back and forth over a parcel of land until he felt the ‘vibrations’ that told him where a well a well should be dug.”

“Beyond being a good dowser, however, Tom is alleged to have had psychokinetic powers — the ability to move objects without touching them. Edgar said that his grandfather could make a broom appear to ‘dance’ by merely holding his hand over it, or move a table without touching it. According to Sarah, Tom’s wife, he rarely used the ‘energy’ in his hands to move inanimate objects, choosing instead to channel his energy to make plants grow, ‘as God intended,’ and to make animals behave. A deeply religious man, he believed it was evil to use it in any other way, and that the Lord would take the power away from him if he used it to do tricks for entertainment purposes.”

This standard of behaviour is important for us to understand how Edgar became the man he was.

The Accident

Something happened to Edgar is his early childhood which may have contributed to his becoming psychic.

“A far more serious accident occurred on May 27, 1880, when Edgar, now three years old, fell headfirst off a fence post onto a board with a nail protruding out of it. The nail went so deeply into his head that it reportedly punctured his cranium and entered his brain cavity. Leslie (his father), who had seen the accident happen, immediately ran to him and removed the nail. Carrie (his mother) was following close behind. After the initial trauma of the fall, Edgar appeared to be perfectly fine. Turpentine was poured onto the open wound, the head was bandaged, and the child eventually resumed his normal play.”

“The degree to which this injury may have left lasting physiological damage or altered Edgar’s normal brain development is not known. It must be pointed out, however, that other psychics, among them Dutch born Peter Hurkos, attributed the development of their psychic abilities to similar blows they suffered to the head, which they believe stimulated their pineal or pituitary glands. Little or nothing is said about this incident by those who knew or wrote about Edgar in his later years, perhaps because Cayce himself believed that his gifts were given him from God and were not of physiological origin.”

Whatever the reason, his abilities began shortly after this incident.

Baby Psychic Steps

An American Prophet cover

As is common with young children the world over, Edgar had ‘imaginary’ playmates.

“In a trance reading conducted forty years later, Edgar suggested that he had indeed been visited by spirit ‘entities,’ who at the time appears in a form that would not frighten or threaten him. Their purpose, according to this reading, was to prepare him for the trials and tribulations to come, and many of these entities, if not all, were alleged to have been later reincarnated as people who became closely associated with the work.”

Edgar also had plenty of contact with his ‘psychic’ grandfather, Tom.

“Edgar’s baby-sitter was no longer needed at the new house since Tom Cayce was pleased to watch over his grandson. Carrie was relieved to have the extra help, as was Leslie. Besides, Tom and Edgar took to one another instantly. They didn’t just spend an hour or two together at a time, but three or four days in a row. They were, as old family friends would later contend, ‘cut from the same tree.’ And although no one came out and said as much, the suggestion has always been that old Tom Cayce’s talent for handling his grandson was much like his talent for handling the forked limb from the peach tree he kept by the family hearth, which he used to locate water wells. ‘That boy literally came alive in his hands,’ one of Leslie’s brothers once remarked.”

But then, one day, Tom had a riding accident and died.

“Despite the close relationship that had developed between Edgar and his grandfather, Edgar seemed less perturbed by the tragedy than might have been expected. This could be attributed to his youth. But it was also true that even as a young child, Edgar’s perception of his grandfather’s death wasn’t the same as it was for other family member. Not long after the funeral, Edgar’s parents found him standing in the tobacco barn ‘conversing’ with his deceased grandfather.”

A Visitation

Like Uri Geller in his early years, Edgar Cayce had an angel visit him.

“Edgar spent many hours in his new retreat. His primary activities were reading from the Bible, praying to God, and watching the squirrels, birds, and other animals that came to drink out of the spring. Many accounts of Edgar’s childhood state that it was here, under the willow tree, that an angel appeared, causing Edgar to have the revelation that was the inspiration for his later career. Edgar himself, said that the angel appeared to him in his bedroom, after he had spent a long day reading his Bible in the woods and asking himself how he could be of service to the Lord. He had eaten dinner and, as usual, went to bed after helping his mother with the chores. His sisters were fast asleep in beds adjacent to his own when he suddenly awoke in the night and perceived what he described as a powerful light coming through the door way.

“‘I felt as if I were being lifted up,’ Edgar later wrote. ‘A glorious light as of the rising morning sun seemed to fill the whole room, and a figure appeared at the foot of my bed. I was sure it was my mother and called (out), but she didn’t answer. For the moment I was frightened, climbed out of bed, and went to my mother’s room. No, she hadn’t called. Almost immediately, after I returned to my couch, the figure came again. Then it seemed all gloriously bright — an angel, or what, I knew not, but gently, patiently, it said: Thy prayers are heard. You will have your wish. Remain faithful. Be true to yourself. Help the sick, the afflicted.‘”

The Start

Edgar used to daydream in school (didn’t we all?) and his uncle Lucian (who was the teacher) ordered him to write the word ‘cabin’ five hundred times on the chalkboard, after he failed to spell it.

That night, Leslie decided to teach his son to spell. “Edgar read the words in his McGuffy’s Reader and then spelled them out loud. But when the book was taken from him he was still unable to get the spelling right. Leslie became increasingly annoyed at his son’s failure to learn such a simple lesson. Furious, he slapped Edgar two or three times with the back of his hand, then knocked him out of his chair. It was almost eleven o’clock at night. Edgar was tired. He wanted to cry. He told his father that if he had a few minutes to rest he knew he could do better. Leslie, tired himself by the struggle, agreed to a five-minute recess.

“Edgar put the book down on the desk and laid his head down on it while his father went into the kitchen. When Leslie returned, Edgar told him he felt refreshed. Leslie put the first word to him, and Edgar spelled it correctly. He also correctly spelled the second word, then the third, and the fourth.

“Initially, his father was pleased that all his work had apparently paid off. But as Edgar proceeded to spell the entire lesson correctly without so much as pausing, Leslie could only conclude that Edgar had cheated, or imagined that his son had pulled a practical joke at his expense — that he had known the lesson the entire time and had merely feigned ignorance.”

Whatever it was that happened, Edgar now had the ability to place a book against his forehead and know its contents perfectly.

The Final Decision

Edgar was advised by his dying grandmother to follow his dreams But where to start?

“In June 1894, Edgar Cayce, now seventeen, did in fact, act upon what he believed to be a message from above. He had just returned from lunch to a field where he had been mending a broken plow. As he knelt to continue to make repairs, he heard a humming. A sense of pleasantness or well-being came over him. Edgar recognized it. He was going to hear again the voice of the angel he had heard years ago in his bedroom. ‘Leave the farm,’ the voice said. ‘Go to your mother. Everything will be all right.’“

The voice had told him to go to Hopkinsville. It didn’t tell him what to do when he got there.

Synopsis

David Siegfried, from Booklist, is quoted on the back cover. “Cayce, humble son of Kentucky tobacco farmers, single-handedly fathered the New Age movement, although he never intended to. Best known for his abilities as a psychic diagnostician, Cayce, with no medical background, would go to sleep and accurately describe illnesses, then prescribe holistic treatments, which, if followed, yielded cures. Gleaning his knowledge from channeling, what he called the ‘Source,’ Cayce, the ‘sleeping prophet,’ also predicted both world wars; spoke on metaphysical topics such as reincarnation, Atlantis, and the life of Christ; and expounded ideas that proved to be years ahead of their time, Kirkpatrick, the only person allowed unrestricted access to all of Cayce’s personal writings, presents what every Cayce fan hungers for: a detailed and complete biography that reveals family secrets that were deemed too sensitive to include in earlier works, as well as the long-suppressed identities of the many famous people, from Woodrow Wilson to Thomas Edison, who benefited from Cayce’s readings. Kirkpatrick has lovingly renewed the Cayce legacy, bringing forth his spiritual messages of admonishment and hope, which are as significant today as they were in his lifetime.”

And, as a lifelong fan of Edgar Cayce, I can whole-heartedly recommend this book to anyone with the thirst for knowledge about what it must have been like for a person with psychic abilities in the last part of the 19th Century and the first half of the 20th.

David Wilcock: Edgar Cayce Reincarnated?

While researching Edgar Cayce’s life, I came across a curious web page on the internet. What made it interesting was the fact that the page explained why David Wilcock was sure that he was the reincarnation of Edgar Cayce. Far-fetched? You be the judge.

But First…

There is a part of Astrology that I have been working on for a number of years now: an individual’s death chart. Last summer, we saw the ‘perfect storm’ that had caused Robin Williams to take his own life.

As this was the first time that I’d had a ‘known’ death chart, I did what you’d expect: I compared the birth chart to it and drew some obvious conclusions.

But this was only half the information that could be gleaned, and because Robin’s death was so recent, there was no way to go beyond what was indicated.

A.T. Mann’s Life*Time Astrology

The Star of Bethlehem vi

Years ago, I read the above-noted book and found his theory about using the birth chart as a way to highlight life events fascinating. In fact, it seems to answer the question ‘Is it possible to accurately predict when something may happen to an individual?’ The answer is a resounding ‘Yes!’ In fact, when Astrologers ‘rectify’ a birth chart, they are using the concept as a way to ‘correct’ an unknown birth time.

To completely understand the importance of the idea, take a look at the copy of page vi from the Introduction of my manuscript The Star of Bethlehem.

At This Point in Time

Life*Time Astrology

In the attached photo is the birth chart as represented by Mann in his books. The conception point for the birth chart of a new incarnation is effectively the death point of the past life, the 9th House cusp.

The reason that this has not been ‘proven’ is that we have not had a birth chart and death chart of a single entity split into two different lives. In other words, the proof of reincarnation. Until now…

Meet David Wilcock

Edgar Cayce – David Wilcock

By his own admission, David Wilcock grew up not realizing consciously that he could be Edgar Cayce reincarnated. Preposterous as this may sound, the connections are overwhelming and can be found on his page Introduction to the Wilcock / Cayce / Ra Connection.

At first I was intrigued, but skeptical. Then I did a comparison of their birth charts as David had suggested in his piece. Take a look for yourself: the connections are visible.

The Clincher

WilcockDavidWBAGE3
David Wilcock birth – Edgar Cayce death

But it wasn’t until I compared David Wilcock’s birth chart to Edgar Cayce’s death chart that the whole thing then made perfect sense, at least to me.

The clincher for me was the Cayce comparative entry at David’s conception point (the 9th House cusp of 27 Cancer 54′). It is the death chart’s Ascendant. It was the first time I had ever seen the connection ‘for real’, as they say.

Now, I have no doubt that David Wilcock is the reincarnation of Edgar Cayce.

This is a good thing. The world mourned the loss of Edgar Cayce in 1945. Now we can rejoice that he’s back. Welcome to the Work, David.

A Way of Life in Two Worlds

Charles Adam Simpson was a sensitive who channelled Dr. Lascelles. This book is a selection of some talks given in London during and after World War II. There is an unapologetic emphasis on Christianity. What is written here is worthy of our attention.

Introduction

A Way of Life in two Worlds cover

A “homily” is a usually short talk on a religious or moral topic. The ones in this book have the advantage of two points of view: this side of life, and the “other” side after death. Because the messages are from a discarnate spirit through a medium, one could be forgiven for dismissing it all as a ‘load of rubbish’.

But it is not rubbish at all: the words carry an authority about them which has been confirmed by other books about similar matters, especially what happens after we die.

I ask that you have the patience to read all the passages cited here, as you cannot but be altered by what is written.

Divine Love

”Fear is the greatest enemy the World has today. Fear engenders distrust. Distrust brings war, economic war and war of arms. Fear makes men try to overcome their neighbours. Fear as a bedfellow brings hopeless nights. Fear in the individual, fear of the loss of material wealth, fear of losing the job next week and having one’s family stranded, fear of death for oneself and for the loved ones—fear, fear, fear.

“That Divine Love casteth out fear. Through the power of that Divine Love the nations will be brought nearer to each other, distrust will be lifted and trust will take its place, and there will be no war. Instead of people walking the street of this big city showing down-cast faces, and (as we see) trembling auras with the fear mark in the mental aura, we would see a bright, happy, loving race if once that Divine Love that casteth out fear were set in motion.”

Love Your Neighbour

“If you had power to read the Akashic records of several of your past incarnations, no doubts you would suddenly see that this person you met just casually and liked, and to whom you unburdened your soul, and who responded to your feelings, has been part of your family before. He belongs to your group. People are divided into groups. You may fail to meet some of the people of your group in an incarnation but, taking your incarnations as a whole from the beginning, you are sooner or later brought into contact with these members of your group.”

Fear, Hope and Faith

“There is a law that you cannot get anything in this world, spiritual or material, without effort. Before you can have help from God’s Angel Kingdom you must obey the law of Asking and Receiving. If God left all the responsibility to the Angels and let man drift along in a kind of Utopia without making any effort of himself, He would be violating His own Law…”

Prayer

Praying Hands

“Someone to pray to. Oh, I know the critics will say: ‘Oh well, that is only imagination’. So it is. The critic finishes there, but I go further. I say that imagination is a creative force and that this force draws either from evil or from good. The critic smiles when he mentions the word imagination, yet his own criticism is partly imagination. Every form of genius is imaginative and can be used for the good of the world. How much more then can the imagination that makes Christ real to you bring His aid, His love, and opens your lips to truly pray?”

What Happens When You Pray

“Let us return to our Prayer Circles, to the two or three who are gathered there and praying in His Name. It is not to say that there is an influx of Christ into the particular place where they are praying, but there is an outflux of the things of the Earth when prayers are said. It takes some little time to reach the full effect of that change. At first there is only a dim light to be seen, but as The Lord’s Prayer proceeds, the light grows clearer and clearer, the words seem to drive out whatever is miserable, or depressing, or evil, so that by the time The Lord’s Prayer is finished you have pure Christ in the Circle. There is a reason for that: upon The Lord’s Prayer, the Prayer of Approach, follows the Prayer of Asking in His Name. Christ has told you that if you ask in His Name, that for which you ask will be added unto you.”

The Holy Communion

“What happens in front of the Altar at the time of Communion? Two Angels stand, one on either side of the Altar, and according to Christ’s promise they pour the spiritual power through the priest. As he lays his hands on the wine and on the bread they are changed. The priest is used for one purpose only—to lower the very high vibration into one that can be absorbed by the wine and the bread.”

Faith

“So I can truly say that people today have very little belief and less faith. You cannot love Christ through the intermediary of another, be it priest or clergyman; and the Christ Who is represented by authority, by a Church built on temporal power, is rather a cold Christ. You cannot get into your heart to really love a Christ like that—a Christ Who is not, as it were, walking by your side, a Christ Whom you can only reach through curates, clergymen, deacons and bishops. The further you go, the more you are chilled.”

“The religion of the future therefore will be a co-operation between the Earth and the planes above the Earth, and it is your prayers that bring those in Heaven to your side. Each religion has its own band in Heaven, but they co-operate far more than the different religions on Earth, I can assure you. Many times we have had Buddhists working in our band, also Brahmins and Mohammedans. We do not say: ‘You must become a Christian before you can help here’. What we say is: ‘We are glad of your help, join your band with ours’. And they come.”

Proof

“Now, let us consider the evidence of the Gospels. A man once said to me: ‘Doctor, how can I believe in the Gospels? Some events are recorded in some of them and not in others, and they are often even contradictory’. I answered: ‘The very fact that they are contradictory should be circumstantial evidence that Christ lived on Earth’. He could not see that. But does it not stand to reason that if the Gospels had been written as a story without any facts underlying it, then one chapter or one part of the book would not differ from the rest on any important event? Then again, supposing it had been a book written for propaganda purposes by a certain sect, would they not have made it a tale of success and not of failure?”

The Work of the Guides

“Let us begin with the newly-dead. Very often the first question one of them will ask is, ‘How can I help those I left on the Earth?’ Well, there are many ways in which they can help. Being newly dead they can still see Earthly conditions; they are heavier, so find it easy, for the first ten or fifteen years, to visit the Earth without ‘cloaking’. And love gives them extra power for help. That is why so many people who pray have their loved ones near them keeping constant watch and anxious to answer their prayers.”

The Angel Kingdom

“Then there are Angels whom I would call Earth Controllers. They have never been in the flesh. They encircle the globe wherever there are human beings; they control the trees, the flowers and all the life that grows on Earth. They control the vast number of nature spirits. You will smile when I tell you they protect the fairies. Yes, there are fairies. There is not a flower that grows without ‘little people’ to look after it, and the ‘little people’ are looked after by the Earth Controllers. These Angels also look after the animal kingdom. They arrange for loved animals to live on after death. If your dog dies and you forget him, he really dies, but if you remember and love him he lives on and you have him with you after death. Dogs, horses, cats, birds, all survive if they have been loved on the Earth. I know an old lady who walks about with a budgerigar on her finger and five cats in her wake. If you hurt an animal you hurt its Angel; an unkind act to a dumb animal is a great sin and has to be paid for quickly. These Angels come very close to the Earth. We have a saying that the Angels of the Earth hover with the butterflies.”

The Process of Incarnation

“After death you pass through the Hall of Initiation. You are left alone there, and you are very glad that you are alone—at least I was—and all your past life is shown to you on a screen, you see it, as it were, in a moving picture. You are not there for any length of time but you see the whole of your life, the good and the bad, pass by. The things you did not think were good sometimes happen to be the good ones, and the things that you thought were very good indeed may happen to be the bad ones, and you get rather a shock. You may find that what you thought were your virtues really are vices and what you thought were vices really are virtues. You may not find very much on the good side of the line and a lot on the bad. You come out of the Hall of Initiation feeling very humble indeed.”

A Glimpse of Heaven

“Well, we have looked at these mountains and hills and fields and yet you have seen so little—so very little. But there is a little home, not so far from the Western field, and it is mine. Yes, and it has got a garden. And there are a lot of flowers in that garden. Some of you would be surprised if you saw them. You would see little labels on some of them. And you would say, ‘Good gracious, but I wrote that “to dear Doctor with my love”’. I have kept the flowers and I have kept the labels. It is a very unpretentious kind of home. I always admired it. On Earth, it was a little cottage that my father’s gardener lived in. It has a long sloping thatched roof, and the rooms are very small. There are some pictures, and one or two little things that I loved on Earth. Some of them have been broken in the material World, but they are still here with me.

“And just behind the little house is a little hummock of the green sward, as though I had taken it from the still waters. And there sometimes when my day is done and I want to refresh my etheric, for my soul is tired, I rest there, hand in hand with my beloved.”

How the Dead Communicate with Each Other

“Now this picture-writing is a kind of indentation on the ether. We can send pictures through the ether and this will not seem strange to you who are familiar with television. There is another method of communication which is very difficult to explain. A message is sent and the receiver sees and hears the despatcher—it is transmitted with the very act and speech of the sender. A message from on high, say from the Seventh Sphere, is blinding to look at, it is like looking into the sun, and only gradually is it possible to discern the form of the Angel within it and to hear him speak. If a message is sent back the Angel has to throw a certain light upon it otherwise he is unable to read it, it is in a fog to him.”

Colour

“All living beings are more or less affected by the vibrations of the heavenly bodies. Astrology is often ridiculed, and most so-called astrology should be regarded with scepticism. Yet a genuine astrologer can map out destiny because he knows the effect on the mental aura of the vibrations emanating from the planets, the stars and the moon.”

Colour and Spiritual Development

“I know there are times when you grow impatient with spiritual exercises and tire of them. There are no visible results at first and you find it difficult to persevere. There is so much to do in your daily life that you have little time to spare for such things. But the effect of fifteen minutes or half an hour spent in true spiritual exercise can be felt for a long time, and if practiced over a longer period it would last perhaps for the rest of your life. You would be so happy with your results that you would never willingly give them up. All spiritual exercises are associated with colour.”

Meditation

“Now suppose people want to know how to meditate. How do they set about it? Meditation is one of the hardest things to practise. I remember one man told me that he had been practising it for thirty years, yet he was only just beginning to learn. But there are simple ways in which people can meditate, and as they go on they can penetrate more and more deeply into the matter on which they are meditating. I will give you an instance. Some of my people wanted to know if they could learn to see inside things, clairvoyantly. ‘Yes, you can, anybody can’, I answered. Take a pod of peas and meditate on it, and it will not be long before you can count the peas inside it, because you will be able to see them. So meditation gives inward sight.”

What Meditation will Bring You

“Let us ponder this for a moment. How will meditating on The Lord affect your life? It will affect it in this way: it will make you happier. It must, because by meditating and bringing that greater understanding into your life you will in time find that you are flooded with Divine Love. Now that must make you happy. When you go out into the fields or into the garden with that glow of Divine Love in you, these fields or that garden will become different. You will see beauties you never dreamt were there, for the power of understanding beauty is enhanced through the greater understanding of God. If you pluck a flower you have in your hands a thing of beauty that God has made for your enjoyment, and you will think: this flower has come from a seed, and if from a seed God can build so much beauty, then surely God can build beauty into my soul. He can and He will.”

The Power of Affirmations and the Development of the Subconscious

Coue

“Life after death is a simplification of life on Earth, so you understand, do you not, that it must be an entirely new kind of life. It is a continuation of your many former lives in the Beyond. But since you do not die and become perfect, you still have those faults of yours and those idiosyncrasies that stand in the way of full enjoyment and happiness. You have still some karma, built up in the past, to get rid of. You still have your own personality, and you still have that subconscious of yours that makes things so difficult for you, that has made you sick of body and mind. You still have memory which is more intense because the subconscious is uncovered. It no longer has to make the heavy passage through your conscious mind.

“So what do we learn from this? Well, I think we learn two things. First that there is no saying ‘When I am dead I will be able to put things right’. You will not. You have got to do it ‘here’ and ‘now’, it has got to be done in the flesh. And certainly the second lesson you learn is that you must not let yourself be controlled by your subconscious mind. You will have to educate it; it is there and it is hard to get at because it is a thing of habit. As you gain control over that subconscious you will get more in touch with the Spheres above because they are the realm of the subconscious. That stands to reason, does it not? You will have your eyes opened and your ears unstopped and you will begin to live in that fourth dimension which is interpenetration. You will develop other senses and that will give you hope and happiness.”

Spiritual Development and Affirmations

“Now I did say, did I not, that the ego is entirely separate from the body. If a person is hypnotised, what he really does under the influence of the hypnotist is to hand over his ego, and the hypnotist is then able to have control over it. If the hypnosis is very deep the person goes into a cataleptic state whereby the subconscious is further removed from the consciousness, or from the body. The body, having no subconscious near or closely associated with it, goes stiff as in death. The reason for this is that the motor nerves are for the time being severed from the body. I think that is clear proof that your body is not you.”

The Education of the Soul

“Thus all things that are of God on the Earth become transformed. It is as though you have been blind and your eyes are opened, as though you have been deaf and at last you can hear. And so, my friends, take notice of this: do not only just educate yourselves for worldly ends. Even if you are getting on in years, set about now to educate your soul and remember there are many teachers but there is one Teacher who is ‘your’ Teacher—Jesus Christ. Do you really know what His message means? His message means this, that you should educate your souls to love each other and to love God. That is all; but if your soul is not educated you are like a child who has not learnt his letters and so cannot read—your soul then cannot understand Christ and what His message really means.”

Christ Consciousness

“Now can you love a soul who lived two thousand years ago? Can you? With just a little and yet so important little that is told of His life on Earth in the Bible? Can you love Him, not having known Him except through His deeds and sayings? Can you love Him as much as you love your children, or those you call your ‘loved ones’ of the flesh? Can you? Mark you, the love of Christ will not take away from the love for them, it will only increase it. Can you take from the Heavens a bit of the Kingdom of Heaven and bring it into your homes? If you can, you are beginning to love Christ. Go on loving Him until your home is filled with the Kingdom of Heaven. It is for you now at this time to ‘seek’. Most of you here are Seekers, and it is for you now to seek that Kingdom, and you can only find it through Christ. We for our part love you and cherish you and will do our best to guide and help you with your prayers. But we would have no power to help you if it were not for Christ.”

Christmas Address (1943)

“What would happen if Jesus of Nazareth were born in 1953 or 1954? That is the year in which we on my side are told that a Jesus of Nazareth will be born. He may not be born in England, He may be born in Ireland, in America, in Persia or in Palestine. He may be born in the cold of Russia or the heat of Asia. What would happen? Well, there are certain people in the world, north, south, east and west—not a great number but a certain number, who have occult knowledge, and who are today—this day, this hour—expecting a Child to be born and are waiting, as they waited two thousand years ago, for the sign to be given to them as to when and where that Child will be born.”

God, Prayer, and Jesus Christ

The Light of the World

“I could describe prayer in so many ways. Prayer could be likened to the concentrated Light of God in man, and in all prayer one has to link up with God through the Angel Kingdom. I have in previous addresses tried to explain this in order to help people to understand what prayer really means and that in the linking-up we use spirits. When you pray you do not pray to an empty void, for there is always a spirit standing by your side listening to your prayers. That spirit is connected with the Angel Kingdom, but he does not answer your prayers. As the Light of God passes down through the spheres of the Earth the words of your prayer are written in that Light and a simple prayer may on its way be read by many spirits and many Angels. If only people would put their lives into the care of that Light of God that is given them through prayer, their lives would be so different.”

“And when you people read the promises that Christ gave when He was in the world before, remember they are all true. How far have the promises of Jesus helped you? For His promises can help you. If you believe in God, if you pray and you believe in Christ and love Him and believe in His words, all things will be added unto you.”
