Trudeau: Like Father, Like Son?

a04_62025

No, more like: Hate Father, Hate Son

The advantage of being a more senior member of the voting community (I’m old, OK?) is that I also have a long memory of how things were back in the ‘bad old days’ (the 70’s).

When Pierre Elliott Trudeau was Prime Minister of Canada, he was considered the most flamboyant Canadian politician to ever have lived. He even dated Barbra Streisand, for goodness sake. And he didn’t give a “Fuddle Duddle” what anyone thought of him.

Justin Trudeau may be a chip off the old block, but he does care what the public thinks, even when he gets it wrong. (And that may be the only difference between them.)

The enduring hatred of those of a different political persuasion is directed at the Trudeau name and heritage. Conservatives, for example, didn’t like Trudeau then, and they sure don’t like Trudeau now.

But why, exactly?

And then the (Jason Kenney) penny drops: they’re not White Anglo-Saxon Protestants!

They come from Quebec, they’re French and they’re Roman Catholic. Three strikes and you’re out!

Oh, and the fact that they have a love/hate relationship with Alberta and the oil industry.

So, where is the love? Between a father and his son, that’s where.

First Time in Canadian Politics…

Trudeau-news-1190140

Needing to Wear a Bulletproof Vest

Yesterday, a Liberal rally in Mississauga, Ontario was delayed by 90 minutes when the RCMP decided that a threat against Trudeau was credible enough to prevent his wife Sophie from introducing him. When Trudeau finally appeared, he had extra RCMP personnel with him, and it was obvious that he was wearing a bulletproof vest.

What’s going on?

This is Canada, not America.

Hate has no place in politics.

And we all have a ‘vested’ interest in using the ballot box to do our speaking for us.

So, Canada, get out and vote on October 21st.

Poppy Montgomery is…

2018_11_27_0d75c3b5-6394-44d8-b253-7a63af539352_png_1800x2700

Unforgettable

This television series has a strange history. After being cancelled by CBS, twice, it found a third and fourth season on A&E. The reason? Poppy Montgomery, the Australian star of the program. Her character, Carrie Wells, is someone with a long and detailed photographic memory, and that makes her memorable to the viewing public.

At present, this show’s first season is being rerun on a local independent channel (CHCH) and it’s good to see what we first witnessed way back in 2011.

However, the CBS network must have had a problem with a strong female lead character because that first season seems to show how Carrie is supportive of Al, her boss, played by Dylan Walsh. Their back story is that they were lovers when they worked together in Syracuse, NY. I’m not sure if that was the correct thing to do, but the reasons behind that decision may have been ‘innocent’ at the time.

Anyway, I’m grateful for the opportunity to see Ms. Montgomery again.

Who’s Privileged? Not Me…

8HspFoa

I’m Poor White Trash

I was challenged in our Faith & Science group yesterday, when I said I wasn’t “privileged”. A chorus of “Yes, you are!” arose from the women in the group.

Ahh, now that made things clearer!

From the inside of my life, I perceive my lack of chances, money and choices, while growing up, to have made it difficult for me to succeed in adult life. But the group’s challenge of my self-perception reminds me that I’m male, and therefore have an advantage over the females around me.

But is it an advantage when half the population (women) are afraid of the other half (men)? In short, no!

There really is a very strange pendulum swing going on.

Being born a white Anglo-Saxon Protestant (WASP) man makes almost every other individual who is not (a WASP man) hate me. Is that fair?

Talk about reverse prejudice!

It’s About Time…

The Fourth Dimension: Sacred Geometry, Alchemy and Mathematics

This is the final book lent to me by my son, Derek. The other three I have already reviewed. This one seems the most difficult to comprehend, and yet, once you grasp the concept, it’s easy.

As this book is made up of a series of lectures, some of which come from 1905, the ideas contained therein are ‘revolutionary’, to be sure. At least they were, more than 100 years ago. Now, we have more awareness of different dimensions.

The Fourth Dimension

To clarify how each successive dimension relates to the previous one, please follow this line of thought. A cube has three dimensions. To imagine the third, you tell yourself that it is perpendicular to the second and the second is perpendicular to the first. It is characteristic of the three dimensions that they are perpendicular to each other. We also can conceive of the third dimension as arising out of the next dimension, the fourth. Envision coloring the faces of a cube and manipulating the colors in a specific way, as Hinton did. The changes you induce correspond exactly to the change undergone by a three-dimensional being when it develops over time, thus passing into the fourth dimension. When you cut through a four-dimensional being at any point — that is, when you take away its fourth dimension — you destroy its fourth dimension, the time factor, and the result is a three-dimensional figure. When time, the fourth dimension, is critically important to any three-dimensional being, that being must be alive.

The Fifth Dimension

And now we come to the fifth dimension. You might say that this dimension must have another boundary that is perpendicular to the fourth dimension. We saw that the relationship between the fourth dimension and the third is similar to the relationship between the third and second dimensions. It is more difficult to imagine the fifth dimension, but once again we can use an analogy to give us some idea about it. How does any dimension come about? When you draw a line, no further dimensions emerge as long as the line simply continues in the same direction. Another dimension is added only when you imagine two opposing directions or forces that meet and neutralize at a point. The new dimension arises only as an expression of the neutralization of forces. We must be able to see the new dimension as the addition of a line in which two streams of forces are neutralized. We can imagine the dimension as coming either from the right or from the left, as positive in the first instance and negative in the second. Thus I grasp each independent dimension as a polar stream of forces with both a positive and a negative component. The neutralization of the polar component forces is the new dimension.

Taking this as our starting point, let’s develop a mental image of the fifth dimension. We must first imagine positive and negative aspects of the fourth dimension, which we know is the expression of time. Let’s picture a collision between two beings for whom time is meaningful. The result will have to be similar to the neutralization of opposing forces that we talked about earlier. When two four-dimensional beings connect, the result is their fifth dimension. The fifth dimension is the result or consequence of an exchange or neutralization of polar forces, in that two living things who influence each other produce something that they do not have in common either in the three ordinary dimensions of space or in the fourth dimension, in time. This new element has its boundaries outside these dimensions. It is what we call empathy or sensory activity, the capacity that informs one being about another. It is the recognition of the inner (soul-spiritual) aspect of another being. Without the addition of the higher, fifth dimension — that is, without entering the realm of sensory activity — no being would ever be able to know about any aspects of another being that lie outside time and space. Of course, in this sense we understand sensory activity simply as the fifth dimension’s projection or expression in the physical world.

The Sixth Dimension

It would be too difficult to build up the sixth dimension in the same way, so for now I will simply tell you what it is. If we continue along the same line of thinking, we would find that the expression of the sixth dimension in the three-dimensional world is self-awareness. As three-dimensional beings, we humans share our image character with other three-dimensional beings. Plants possess an additional dimension, the fourth. For this reason, you will never discover the ultimate being of the plant in the three dimensions of space. You must ascend to a fourth dimension, to the astral sphere. If you want to understand a being that possesses sensory ability, you must ascend to the fifth dimension, lower devachan or the Rupa sphere, and to understand a being with self-awareness — namely, the human being — you must ascend to the sixth dimension, upper devachan or the Arupa sphere. The human beings we encounter at present are really six-dimensional beings. What we have called sensory ability (or empathy) and self-awareness are projections of the fifth and sixth dimensions, respectively, into ordinary three-dimensional space. Albeit unconsciously for the most part, human beings extend all the way into these spiritual spheres; only there can their essential nature be recognized. As six-dimensional beings, we understand the higher worlds only when we attempt to relinquish the characteristic attributes of lower dimensions.

Conclusion

soul-layers1

Lately, there’s been a lot of chatter about Ascension and our moving into the Fifth Dimension. I suspect that most New Age individuals are not conversant with what that really means. It seems to me that some of us are already there. But the work’s not over until everyone becomes “Self-aware”.

That’s why I write these blogs. Call them: my little hints…

Let’s Not Forget About Betty…

EGXeuIFW4AA8EM8

Quote from this week’s Leaders’ Debate

It’s a tough place to be: the only female among a group of ‘holier than thou’ males trying to get the support of Canadian voters. Elizabeth May has a voice. And she is being heard by the female voters, especially the ones who are environmentalists at heart.

But is it enough?

The NDP are the ‘natural’ third party of Canadian politics, the Greens a distant fourth. So it may take the disaffection of women with Trudeau to give Betty any chance of increasing the number of seats in Parliament from the one where she sits now.

But it could happen, really.

th

And I seem to be not the only one who views this election as a cartoon.

Health Warning: Get your flue checked

1ba9c5d9-ebdb-4a74-85c6-69ab3b35abe9

‘Flu-like symptoms may be carbon monoxide poisoning

It’s that time of the year again. Autumn is when we turn on the furnace to keep us warm for the cold days and freezing nights. But, last year, I noticed that the ventilation for our gas water heater had come apart during the winter. I put it back together, hoping that had fixed the problem. It hadn’t.

The vent from the water tank is right up against the furnace, and next to the airflow vent from said furnace. In other words, jammed in between them. When we turned the heating on last week, I got the impression that I should check the water tank vent again.

It’s a good thing that I did, because it had come apart again. So I called our water heater service company and got a repairman to visit us today. He altered the vent and secured it so that it would stay together permanently. And then we had a discussion about how CO is a ‘silent killer’. Our CO alarms were obviously not doing their job.

Now it makes sense:

We’ve lived in this house for four winters, so far. Susan has had a very bad time of it, health-wise, each year, during those winter months. We thought it was due to the fact that she was essentially housebound, unable to do any gardening or yard work. But it might have actually been because we were slowly being poisoned.

That won’t happen now that this maintenance has been done.

So, the lesson is this: don’t take for granted that you are safe from this ‘silent killer’; get your flue checked to make sure that you don’t get flu-like symptoms.

Your life might depend on it.

A Faith & Science Question was Answered

51dCE2PTUTL._SY346_

Egyptian Myths and Mysteries

I’ve been reading Rudolf Steiner’s series of lectures from 1908, in which he compares Egyptian knowledge to be the same as that which is echoed in our own times.

None of this is new to me, of course, but the knowledge he shared is helpful when I try to look back over the course of human evolution to see spiritually what took place. What I didn’t expect was that the very last pages would reveal the answer to what one person from our Faith & Science group asked during our last meeting, ten days ago.

Catacombs in Rome

catacombe_di_roma

Graham’s question concerned why Caroline Myss should have a dream about the catacombs which then started her journey towards the writing of Entering the Castle (as documented in that book). He could not understand why that should be the ‘starting point for Christianity’.

So imagine my surprise when I read this in Steiner’s book:

Let us place a picture before our soul. One often hears it said, “Oh, those seekers for the spirit! They assemble in their lodges and pursue all kinds of fantastic rubbish. A person of really modern views can have no part in that.” The adherents of the science of the spirit sometimes seem to be a sort of pariah class, regarded as uneducated and untrained. Should we be discouraged because of this? No. We shall place a picture before our souls and arouse the feelings that are connected with it. We can recall something similar in past times; how something similar occurred in ancient Rome. We can see how, in ancient Rome, primitive Christianity spread among a despised class of people. We look with legitimate delight today on such things as the Colosseum constructed by imperial Rome. But we can also look at the people who then regarded themselves as the choicest of their time; we can see how they sat in the Circus and watched while the Christians were burned in the arena and incense was kindled to quench the stink of the burning bodies.

Now let us look at those despised ones. They lived in the catacombs, in underground passages. There they erected the first Christian altars on the graves of their dead. There below they had their wonderful symbols and shrines. A strange feeling seizes us today when we walk through the catacombs, through that despised underground Rome. The Christians knew what awaited them. That first germ of the Christ-impulse on earth, confined to the catacombs, was despised. But what remains of imperial Rome?

It has disappeared from the earth, while what then lived in the catacombs has been exalted.

Let us hope that those who today wish to make themselves the bearers of a spiritual worldview may preserve the confidence of the first Christians. The representatives of the science of the spirit may be despised by contemporary academic learning, but they know that they are working for what will bloom and thrive in the future. Let them learn to endure all the vexations of the present day. We are working into the future. This we may feel confidently and without arrogance, firm against the misunderstandings of our time.

Conclusion

So, for those who are still working towards this eventuality, take heart that 111 years later, we are still misunderstood, but “the Universe is unfolding as it should…”

Amen.
