Are You Willing to Embrace Your Inner Darkness?

Shadow Work

I was a hypnotherapist in the UK. This is a logical conclusion for someone who wanted to understand himself. As a career, it is also long and tedious work. And some of my clients were very self-indulgent. But that’s the point entirely to shadow work. You have to take good care of yourself.

We all have trauma in our lives. For some it’s the feeling of abandonment, especially when very young. For others, it’s the feeling of shame and blame when their parents separate and (later) divorce. Guilt sneaks in, where angels fear to tread. And how we respond to that trauma can make the difference between surviving and thriving.

There is no magic bullet, here. We are all one under the skin. We need to be kind to ourselves and to others, because we are all in this situation together. In truth, no one is getting out alive.

“What evil lurks within the heart of men? Only the Shadow knows.”

20 He continued: “What comes out of a man, that is what defiles him. 21For from within the hearts of men come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, 22greed, wickedness, deceit, debauchery, envy, slander, arrogance, and foolishness.…

Whose Pattern of Life did the Ancients Follow?

The Bible and Slavery

It’s an uncomfortable truth. Until Abraham Lincoln proclaimed that slavery was abolished in the United States in 1863, every rich (and probably) white land owner was an owner of (mostly) black slaves to labour in their fields and homes. It was considered legal and just to do so, since slavery was in the Bible.

My question today is: where did the Israelites get this notion that slavery was perfectly acceptable?

One could say that it was the norm in the past, since the Israelites were taken into slavery by the Egyptians in Moses’ time. And the Greeks and Romans had been doing the same during their empires. But does that make it right and proper? Or did they think it was a God-given right?

Speculation exists that the whole Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden thing was a fable to explain how an alien race enlisted the help of a ‘new’ species to mine gold for the ‘gods’ (people from the sky).

In other words, mankind was ‘created’ as slaves. When they partook of the forbidden fruit (gained sexual knowledge), the ‘gods’ threw them out of the enclosed prison (Eden) and gave them their freedom to do what they wanted. Well, of course, the newly freed slaves were going to emulate their former ‘owners’, weren’t they? Slavery became the norm, right from the get-go.

“What’s It Like to Learn This?”

Finding Your Roots (PBS)

This is the other ancestry show. The same cross-section of famous people get to undergo the Henry Louis Gates, Jr. journey into their past. But Mr. Gates has an agenda. He wants them to confront slavery of African-Americans from both sides of the divide.

In this episode with Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell, Gates stretched the point about one of (or two) of Dax’s forebears who owned a least one slave. It gets tiresome to watch him do this, week in and week out. Sure, he has a one man’s axe to grind, but we’re the ones getting ground down.

In the end, I think I’m going to stop watching this show. Who’s with me?

When the Universe Has a Plan to Solve a Conflict

Who Do You Think You Are? (BBC)

I came across a YouTube video clip this morning which features Martin Sheen researching his family tree. Now, normally, we never get to see the Universe in action so clearly, so I thought I’d share it here:

Impressive, eh?

The Day Home Music was Born

Phonograph Patent Issued (February 19, 1878)

We’ve come a long way, baby! Thomas Edison invented the phonograph, initially on cylinders. It wasn’t long before RCA-Victor put the sounds on discs. Then we went to cassette tapes, and now we use CDs.

I wasn’t sure what would appear on the chart, but it only makes sense when looked at from the home consumer’s point of view. There are four inconjuncts, three of which form a double Yod pointing at the Moon (popularity). The other inconjunct links Jupiter and Uranus, a sign of the electronic revolution and spread of music and sound. Hmm.

Sun Inconjunct Moon

As you get older, you will respect people who make solid worldly achievements that have concrete, observable results, such as successful businessmen or builders, people who complete large-scale projects that everyone can point to.

Planets in Youth (page 77) by Robert Hand (1977)

Moon Inconjunct Venus

You need to be loved, even more than most. This need for love will be the force behind many of your actions. If you don’t find the love you are looking for, you will develop an insecure hunger for love from everyone you meet.

Ibid (page 119)

Moon Inconjunct Neptune

This aspect indicates that you are very sensitive and that you pick up feelings from the people around you very easily. The danger is that many of these feelings will be difficult to cope with; they may make you afraid of the world and reluctant to go out into it.

Ibid (page 133)

Jupiter Inconjunct Uranus

You will always need freedom, but you will also discover that what you do with your life will have meaning only if it means something to others. This is not an artificial rule, but a truth that you will discover within yourself.

Ibid (page 266)

Honestly, where would we be if Edison hadn’t invented the phonograph?

Intimate Partner Violence in 1950’s Britain

Ruth Ellis (October 9, 1926 – July 13, 1955)

In the back of my mind, I’m sure that I’d heard of this woman’s tragic story. The following YouTube video explains what happened:

I wondered what astrology could tell us about this woman and her actions on the day she shot her lover, David Blakely.

I suspect this birth time was chosen because it demonstrates the unconscious anger issues Ruth may have had. Mars in the 12th House, conjunct a Taurus Ascendant would be a sign of mental illness, especially when it is opposite the Moon and Saturn conjunct. Her parents set the pattern of conflict in her life, and the result brought her to that fateful day.

The Day She Shot Her Lover

Isn’t it funny(?) how the same dynamic between Mars, the Moon and Saturn gets repeated on the day.

When the two charts are combined, the reality of her life comes completely into focus:

See what I mean?

There are plenty of inconjuncts, but they count for less than the Mars/Moon/Saturn aspects.

How a Mother’s Intuition Helped to Solve a Mystery

Into the Fire: The Lost Daughter (2024)

We watched this documentary on Netflix last night. It’s a 2 part series. If you have any intuition, your ‘spidey’ senses will be pinging off the wall.

I can’t believe how one man can lie till the cows come home, or the chickens roost, or whatever cliché fits. In the end, justice was served, but what a journey of discovery!

DNA sorted it out again.

Sixty Years Ago Today, Canada Got a New Flag

The Red Maple Leaf (February 15, 1965)

For those of us old enough to remember this day, the new flag caused a lot of consternation (my polite way of saying that a lot of people hated it). Up until then, our flag had been the Red Ensign, which completely showed our links to the United Kingdom and the British Monarchy. The change to a single maple leaf was a stroke of genius, however, because it could then symbolize ALL Canadians together.

Hmm. Gemini Ascendant conjunct the North Node. Obviously significant for a country of two nations (English and French: First Nations weren’t taken into account then). The Cosmic Cross with oppositions involving most of the planets is significant, too (hence the hoo-ha over the flag’s adoption). The energetic undercurrent is expressed by the four inconjuncts.

Sun Inconjunct Mars

You have a rather strong will, which may be difficult to control. This is because your way of doing something tends to interfere with what you want to gain by doing it. Your actions in some situations may surprise people by contradicting what they have learned about you…

Planets in Youth (page 80) by Robert Hand (1977)

Venus Inconjunct Uranus

You feel mixed up about whether you want to be close to others or be free. It will take you several years to understand yourself enough so that you can strike a balance between these two needs, so be patient.

Ibid (page 201)

Venus Inconjunct Pluto

This aspect may mean that you are very possessive and demanding of your loved ones. You may not want to accept the fact that your friends can love other people besides yourself. Love for friends and relatives should be given freely, not used as a way to control them. If you do that, you will lose their love.

Ibid (page 206)

Neptune Inconjunct Ascendant

This aspect can be a sign that you feel you must give way to others in order to get along with them. As you get older, if you do not learn to stand up for your rights, this problem will get worse, because you express your unconscious resentment as a martyred attitude, which makes it impossible for others to appreciate or use anything they get from you. Thus the results of your sacrifice are totally negative, because you are not happy with giving and they are not happy with receiving.

Ibid (page 339)

It’s almost as if the inconjuncts have come home to roost, these sixty years later. Under the threat of tariffs from the American administration presently in power, all four descriptions seem to be playing out.

And yet, the very flag that foretold this situation is now being proudly displayed for all the world to see.

She was Like a Mother to Me in the 11th Century

Eleanor of Aquitaine (c. 1124 – April 1, 1204)

I’ve written about this Queen of France and Queen of England previously, but only on the periphery of other people’s lives, including her champion, William Marshal. Now I’m looking at Eleanor’s death:

There is some ambiguity about the date of her death: some say March 31st, some April 1st. I settled on the one that Wikipedia suggests. The time of day is unknown, which is surprising as most royalty’s precise details are known and recorded in history. I suppose the vagueness comes from her dying in a monastery. The noon timing brings a Royal Train, starting at Mars in Pisces and continuing through to Saturn in Aries. Only Uranus and Pluto are separate and conjunct in Leo. She died the way she lived: fully and completely a monarch.

Now, the question is why I should be looking at her today? Judith Light, is why.

Eleanor’s ‘fatal’ Saturn is (almost) exactly conjunct Judith’s North Node. And the North/South Node axis between them is within 6°. The interactive Yod from Judith’s Neptune and Pluto is pointing at Eleanor’s ‘fatal’ Mars. That fighting spirit never died, it just moved forward in time to a 20th century actress.

There most likely are other intervening lives, but I wanted to explore why Judith Light felt like a mother to me. This Queen may be the answer to my spiritual quest.

How Things Change, Stay the Same in Exactly One Year

Judith Light (February 9, 1949)

I didn’t know we shared the same birthday, one year apart. I’ve always liked her, but could never put my finger on why. After watching some interviews on YouTube, I have a clearer picture, but still had some questions that needed answering.

Here’s Judith’s birth chart:

Right from the start, I suspect it’s the Moon at 1° Cancer, conjunct Uranus and her Ascendant that makes the connection for me. Of course, there is a Yod linking Venus with the Moon on one side and Saturn on the other, plus an inconjunct between Mercury and Saturn. I won’t delineate the inconjuncts, but I’m sure if you can read between the lines, this person may have been a mother to me in a past life.

With our birthdays being only one year apart, many of the outer planets are holding their same positions, so automatically, we have connections. What is surprising is how close the personal planets and lights line up between us. This feels karmic to me.

I suppose you could say, combined, we are Miller Light.
