Utopia or Dystopia?

Blog1-UvsDys

Eve of Destruction or Dawn of a New Age?

It all depends on your perspective, doesn’t it?

The thinking on climate change is that we’re running out of time before we destroy this Earth and everything on it. And if we don’t do something, anything, soon, it will be too late. Some have even gone so far as to equate humanity with an out-of-control virus. The world cannot sustain an ever-increasing population explosion, they claim.

Well, not necessarily, I say.

Conservation or Progression?

The one percent of humanity that owns or controls the resources of this world want to maintain their stewardship. That’s why the rich keep getting richer and the poor, poorer.

But there really is enough to go around. There is plenitude, not scarcity. You wouldn’t know that from newscasts, though. The mainstream media (MSM) are in the hands of those in control. They are lying to us, to get us to acquiesce to their ‘needs’. And, yet, there are free-thinkers in the world who come up with solutions, only to be told that there’s no money available to develop them.

As an example, the Alberta government has legislated a reduction in oil production because the price for crude oil is too low to make it profitable to sell. Conservation.

In another example, the Ontario government has cancelled grants for selling electric automobiles, because they have to ‘balance the budget’. Conservation.

The better way, which the Paris Agreement on Climate Change endorsed, is to develop new methods and equipment, in the hopes that man’s impact on climate can be reduced.

Notice who dropped out of that agreement…

Untapped Potential

A friend shared an interesting Native story about the Creator wanting to hide the answer for mankind’s salvation somewhere. Every suggestion was unsuitable because mankind would physically discover it through mechanical means. Finally, it was suggested that the secret be hidden inside each person. “It is done!” said the Creator.

New Agers are called that because they are looking forward to the Age of Aquarius. Their focus has been on developing themselves to act as channels for spiritual energy. Dowsers, psychics, healers and artists have all been doing their upmost to bring about a change in mankind. As the work progresses, Light has been pouring into the world in greater degrees of clarity. The New Age is dawning.

Conclusion

Imagine there’s no heaven
It’s easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today… Aha-ah…

Imagine there’s no countries
It isn’t hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion, too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace… You…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world… You…

You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

(John Lennon)

It Must Be the Christmas Season

die-hard

Die Hard (1988)

With so many Hallmark Christmas movies on television at the present, it makes a refreshing change to go back to this one from the late 80’s.

Sappy, it is not.

Spicy, maybe.

But mostly fruity, with the language.

Even a shot of someone smoking in the airport was startling, when you consider how far we have come in 30 years.

Die Hard is a (now) often imitated formula when it comes to the ‘one man against the odds’ story line. Even the franchise is a bit repetitive, sometimes, especially in basing their stories around the Christmas season. But, for the men of the household, a welcome change from all that “ho, ho, ho”-ing.

Now, there have been movies in the 70’s which depicted a similar scenario: The Towering Inferno comes to mind. But this one is closer to the real life emergency of 9-11 in time, and the image on the posters of a skyscraper on fire hits a little too close to home. Precognition, perhaps? Even this year’s movie, Skyscraper, picks up the theme.

It was also interesting to have a hero who actually bleeds. This is no Superman, just a dedicated human, determined to save the mother of his children from harm. That was the Christmas theme woven into the movie: Love conquers all fear.

Freddie Mercury: Astrological Portrait

freddie-mercury---musical-legacy

Colourful Enigma

The irony of using a black and white ‘biography’ portrait for such a one as Freddie Mercury cannot be overstated. In truth, none of us really know who he was, but we were all affected by his music, especially as a member of Queen.

I researched Mercury’s story for astrological clues. I think I’ve nailed his birth time quite accurately, although no one else tried to rectify his chart, choosing instead to use dawn (6:30 am) or noon on his birth date. The time of 2:00 pm is better, since it shows three ‘events’ of his life: his arrival in the UK in 1964 (Uranus); Queen’s Live Aid performance (Saturn); and his death to an AIDS-related pneumonia (Pluto).

It was a short but dramatic life, by any standards.

By having his Moon in Capricorn in the 12th House of his chart, the feminine side of his nature can be better understood. It haunted him, to be sure, but it also made his flamboyance more earthshaking — he was going against his more conservative, pragmatic side. The Ascendant being inconjunct to Pluto, while the Moon was inconjunct to Saturn, would have set him on a self-destructive path, almost involuntarily.

As I’ve said before, Astrology lets us peek behind the (lace) curtains into a person’s life.

In this case, some of the mystery of Freddie Mercury is more easily resolved.

All he really wanted to do was make a difference to the world, while just being exactly who he was.

In my opinion, he succeeded.

Funny, That: Mike Myers

Wayne’s World

Before Mike Myers hid behind (and inside) some great inventions, like Shrek, Austin Powers, The Love Guru, and others, he was just a guy, sitting in his mother’s basement with his best friend: Wayne Campbell.

Now he’s added a cameo on Bohemian Rhapsody as Ray Foster, the music producer who would forever be remembered as the man who rejected Queen’s greatest hit.

I didn’t recognize him. As Ray, Mike hardly moved an inch, which is so unlike his normal acting style (which is frenetic). If it hadn’t been for one line of dialogue, I would not have given him a second thought.

During the pitch by Queen, after hearing the whole six minutes of “Bohemian Rhapsody”, Ray Foster says:

We need a song teenagers can bang their heads to in a car. Bohemian Rhapsody is not that song.

I laughed out loud. I immediately twigged onto the fact that it was a not-so-subtle reference to the famous video of the boys in the car, banging their heads to “Bohemian Rhapsody”. I wonder if Mike Myers wrote that line as an ad-lib.

Hot: Mercury’s Rising Again

Bohemian Rhapsody

Freddie Mercury’s rise to super stardom from relative obscurity is chronicled in this movie. The years covered are 1970 to 1985. The movie ends with Queen’s appearance at Live Aid on 13 July 1985. The (almost) full 20+ minute set is the highlight.

Here’s a look back at the original version:

I was going to discuss other aspects of the movie, but after watching Mercury in this video, I’ve decided not to. If you want to witness his genius at work, go see it in the cinema. You won’t be disappointed.

Believe Me: He’s Lying

Courtesy of RT – note the classic ‘talk to the hand’ gesture

“Cohen is Weak”

Yesterday, Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to lying to Congress. That really was a ‘cat among the pigeons’ moment. It has been noted that the timing of the court case was after Donald Trump had answered Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s questions.

And, as you would expect, Trump came out swinging.

Why? Because he knows he’s been caught in a lie, and he’s hoping to get public opinion on his side.

You know that phrase, “The pot calling the kettle black”? In this case is it hypocrisy, or is it projection? Or both?

We shall see who is really weak, and very soon, I expect.
