Astrology: Testing Another Theory about Rebirth

Friedrich (Fritz) Fromm (October 8, 1888 – March 12, 1945)

I suppose there’s no way of proving or disproving a theory about anything unless one is willing to tackle it head on. It has been a central contention of another astrologer that Friedrich Fromm is the controller of all things psychic that has been plaguing the United States in recent years. He also contends that Fromm is the reincarnation of Karl Marx.

Can you tell that I’m not a fan of placing the clock at noon for the birth time of anyone whose time was unknown? This chart is randomized, but I love how the Neptune, Pluto and Ascendant are conjunct in the first degrees of Gemini, while opposing the Moon and Jupiter on the Descendant. That seems to symbolize his whole persona as it played out with the attempt on Hitler’s life and the subsequent fallout.

Fritz (on the left) seems head and shoulders about the rest

There are no inconjuncts. But is he Karl Marx reborn? Let’s look at that possibility:

There are definitely some connections, I’ll give you that. Marx’ natal Uranus is conjunct Fromm’s Mars @ 19° Sagittarius, for one. And Fromm’s Pluto is close to Marx’ ‘fatal’ Moon, while Fromm’s Neptune is conjunct Marx’ natal Mercury. Finally, Fromm’s North Node is within 6° of Marx’ ‘fatal’ Ascendant (set for noon) and Marx’ natal Mars. But is that enough proof? I wonder.

The question I asked yesterday was whether it seemed likely that Marx would reincarnate as a Nazi General. But, I suppose, moving from the extreme left to the extreme right could be an attempt at balancing one’s pendulum swing in experience.

But here’s where CaptMccoy’s theory may go awry.

Yemi Osinbajo (March 8, 1957)

Idea courtesy of Businessday.ng

When I was researching for images of Fromm, this one popped up. Hmm. Businessday.ng suggests that Yemi Osinbajo is the reincarnation of Friedrich Fromm. So, I decided to look at this man, too.

So, first of all, this goes contrary to what CaptMccoy suggests: the Mercury and Venus need to be in the same formation for it to be a legitimate reincarnation. So I guess this is where my process deviates from his. I have no such preconceived notions, only looking to see if there are connections (i.e. conjunctions).

Now, I have no idea why the Nigerians think Osinbajo and Fromm are karmically connected, but the comparison of their charts seems to confirm ‘something’. Osinbajo’s Moon splits Fromm’s natal Neptune/Pluto/Ascendant conjunction in Gemini, right down the middle. And Osinbajo’s Part of Fortune is conjunct Fromm’s ‘fatal’ North Node. But, in my opinion, not enough to ‘prove’ reincarnation.

Conclusions

Rebirth is such a hot topic. Maybe we need to remind ourselves about its roots. The Jewish people have long believed that it exists. It was called ‘resurrection’. For anyone to understand that we have strayed a long way from that idea, think what it meant to them: their leaders would come back as many times as was necessary to lead them to their Promised Land. Metempsychosis was the word to describe that theory, in other words, “reincarnation”.

The Kabbalah is Jewish esoteric knowledge wrapped up in interesting concepts. Metempsychosis is essentially an explanation for reincarnation. See the following:

Gilgul

Moses and Jethro were Abel and Cain;

Eve and Adam, David and Bathsheba;

The Serpent became known as Uriah;

Even Job’s Abraham’s father again.

Metempsychosis was used to explain

Perplexing problems in the Kabbalah:

Some said that Adam, David, Messiah

Yielded ADaM’s name as from the same vein.

Commonly, reincarnation was used,

Heresy to some, sacred to others,

Only the Gnostics really knew for sure.

Since the 5th century it’s been abused

In Catholics, erased by the Fathers;

Saved by the Perfect: Humanity’s Cure!

Communism: The Brotherhood of Man?

Karl Marx (May 5, 1818 – March 14, 1883)

UNSPECIFIED – CIRCA 1865: Karl Marx (1818-1883), philosopher and German politician. (Photo by Roger Viollet Collection/Getty Images)

With the benefit of hindsight, we look upon figures of history from the perspective of how their ideas turned out. Karl Marx is a case in point. He wanted to make everything equal for everyone, but the ‘powers that be’ decided that his ideas would be unworkable anarchy, so they adapted them to suit their more Animal Farm concept of equality:

Marx’ Birth Chart

This chart was already on my computer program, so I cannot totally confirm its veracity. But the Yod pointing at Mars, with inconjuncts to Uranus and the Ascendant, seems to be correct: a lightning bolt.

Mars Inconjunct Uranus

You have a tendency to be rash and impulsive, which may get in your way. If matters proceed too slowly, you are likely to make a sudden move that upsets the whole situation and forces you to start over again. You must learn to be patient if you want to achieve your objectives.

This energy may also be expressed as a hot temper, especially when you have to endure restriction or limitation. You have a rebellious streak that needs to be disciplined, because everyone has to endure some restrictions, and it takes so little to trigger your temper.

Mars Inconjunct Ascendant

Learn to work for the good of others by making their objectives your objectives, whenever possible. The aspect can signify the ability to accomplish a great deal, as long as you do not spend all your time and energy feeling angry or resentful about seemingly undeserved defeats. When you have a real goal to work toward that you can share with others, you will be able to attain that goal.

In His Birth Chart There are Three Other Inconjuncts (which may apply)

Sun Inconjunct Midheaven

This aspect can mean some tension with one of your parents, although it is not likely to be serious or destructive. In fact it may play a very positive role later on by forcing you to confront certain issues that you would otherwise have ignored. However, while you are young, you may resent this parent quite a bit. Do not take this too seriously, unless some other area of your chart indicates a more negative relationship.

Moon Inconjunct Midheaven

Work very hard to develop an objective awareness of what you are doing and where you are going. You will need this understanding to guide your emotions, which might otherwise lead you astray and make it difficult for you to focus on your goals. Learn to make logical decisions, and do not let passing moods color your attitudes about yourself and your life too much.

Venus Inconjunct Neptune

This aspect means that your attitudes about love and affection are very idealist, as will become clearer later in life. Also it can be a sign of creative artistic ability if there are other indications of creativity in your chart. And, of course, you must begin the appropriate training while you are young.

When you are older, you may have severe problems in love and relationships, because you feel that you are only good enough for society’s losers, people who badly need help or have severe emotional problems. Or you may find someone who seems to be perfect, who will help you out of your problems, but later turns out to be a disappointment.

Conclusions

Does this sound like the type of person that would come back as a Nazi Officer in World War II?

But this seems appropriate these days, n’est-pas?

Is This CaptMccoy’s Favourite Bugaboo?

Erich Fromm (March 23, 1900 – March 18, 1980)

1974

Stop me if I’m wrong, but this man is a favourite author of mine. Why does CaptMccoy suspect him of being behind all the recent serial killings in the United States? Something’s not right…

This chart was already on my computer program. We have one Yod pointing at Venus, formed by inconjuncts to Uranus and the Ascendant. That’s a good omen: “The Art of Loving”, anyone?

Venus Inconjunct Uranus

You feel mixed up about whether you want to be close to others or be free. When you are really close to a love one, you feel smothered and want to get away by yourself to do what you want. But when you are alone and free to do what you want, you miss your loved ones and want to be with them. It will take you several years to understand yourself enough so that you can strike a balance between these two needs, so be patient.

Venus Inconjunct Ascendant

You often feel that you haven’t any right to ask much of those whom you love. You feel that you must do favors for them instead of asking for their help. For you, love is an act of service, not self-gratification. Also, through relationships with others, you try to learn more about your own and other peoples’ inner workings. For this reason your relationships are more deep and profound than most people’s. But they are somewhat difficult, too.

For Example:

There is only one possible, productive solution for the relationship of individualized man with the world: his active solidarity with all men and his spontaneous activity, love and work, which unite him again with the world, not by primary ties but as a free and independent individual…. However, if the economic, social and political conditions… do not offer a basis for the realization of individuality in the sense just mentioned, while at the same time people have lost those ties which gave them security, this lag makes freedom an unbearable burden. It then becomes identical with doubt, with a kind of life which lacks meaning and direction. Powerful tendencies arise to escape from this kind of freedom into submission or some kind of relationship to man and the world which promises relief from uncertainty, even if it deprives the individual of his freedom.

— Erich Fromm, Escape from Freedom [N.Y.: Rinehart, 1941], pp. 36–7. The point is repeated on pp. 31, 256–7.)

Conclusion

CaptMccoy must be mistaken, or else he has a specific dislike of everything Jewish, especially psychology. Either that, or his ‘sources’ are trying to blacken Fromm’s name. I wonder which it is?

Why the 3rd President Decided to Rewrite the Gospels

The Jefferson Bible (1820)

Cover courtesy of amazon.com

It’s a curious thing to do: cut out passages from the four Gospels in the New Testament and paste them into your own version of the Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth. That’s what Thomas Jefferson did.

I bought an ebook version of this work, and read it ‘cover-to-cover’. I didn’t agree with his chronology at times, but then I didn’t know then what I know now about who actually wrote the Gospels.

RELIGIOUS VIEWS OF THOMAS JEFFERSON

In a letter to his daughter, written in 1803, Mr. Jefferson said: “A promise made to a friend some years ago, but executed only lately, has placed my religious creed on paper. I have thought it just that my family, by possessing this, should be enabled to estimate the libels published against me on this, as on every other possible subject.” The “religious creed” to which he referred was a comparison of the doctrines of Jesus with those of others, prepared in fulfillment of a promise made to Dr. Benjamin Rush. This paper, with the letter to Dr. Rush which accompanied it. is a fit introduction to the “Jefferson Bible.”

Jefferson, Thomas. The Jefferson Bible (Illustrated) (Kindle Locations 9-14). . Kindle Edition

The test of this letter, dated April 21, 1803, is reproduced in the first part of the book. I could repeat it here in full, but that might prove tedious for some of you. But I will share some of it with you:

In this state of things among the Jews, Jesus appeared. His parentage was obscure; his condition poor; his education null; his natural endowments great; his life correct and innocent. He was meek, benevolent, patient, firm, disinterested, and of the sublimest eloquence. The disadvantages under which his doctrines appear are remarkable.

1. Like Socrates and Epictetus, he wrote nothing himself.

2. But he had not, like them, a Xenophon or an Arrian to write for him. I name not Plato, who only used the name of Socrates to cover the whimsies of his own brain. On the contrary, all the learned of his country, entrenched in its power and riches, were opposed to him, lest his labors should undermine their advantages; and the committing to writing of his life and doctrines fell on unlettered and ignorant men; who wrote, too, from memory, and not till long after the transactions had passed.

3. According to the ordinary fate of those who attempt to enlighten and reform mankind, he fell an early victim to the jealousy and combination of the altar and the throne, at about 33 years of age, his reason having not yet attained the maximum of its energy, nor the course of his preaching, which was but of three years at most, presented occasions for developing a complete system of morals.

4. Hence the doctrines which he really delivered were defective, as a whole, and fragments only of what he did deliver have come to us mutilated, misstated, and often unintelligible.

5. They have been still more disfigured by the corruptions of schismatizing followers, who have found an interest in sophisticating and perverting the simple doctrines he taught, by engrafting on them the mysticisms of a Grecian Sophist (Plato), frittering them into subtilties and obscuring them with jargon, until they have caused good men to reject the whole in disgust, and to view Jesus himself as an impostor. Notwithstanding these disadvantages, a system of morals is presented to us which, if filled up in the true style and spirit of the rich fragments he left us, would be the most perfect and sublime that has ever been taught by man. The question of his being a member of the Godhead, or in direct communication with it, claimed for him by some of his followers, and denied by others, is foreign to the present view, which is merely an estimate of the intrinsic merits of his doctrines.

1. He corrected the Deism of the Jews, confirming them in their belief of one only god, and giving them juster notions of his attributes and government.

2. His moral doctrines, relating to kindred and friends, were more pure and perfect than those of the most correct of the philosophers, and greatly more so than those of the Jews; and they went far beyond both in inculcating universal philanthrophy, not only to kindred and friends, to neighbors and countrymen, but to all mankind, gathering all into one family, under the bonds of love, charity, peace, common wants and common aids. A development of this head will evince the peculiar superiority of the system of Jesus over all others.

3. The precepts of philosophy and of the Hebrew code laid hold of action only. He pushed his scrutinies into the heart of man; erected his tribunal in the region of his thought, and purified the waters at the fountain head.

4. He taught emphatically the doctrine of a future state, which was either doubted or disbelieved by the Jews; and wielded it with efficacy as an important incentive, supplementary to the other motives to moral conduct.

Jefferson, Thomas. The Jefferson Bible (Illustrated) (Kindle Locations 47-72). . Kindle Edition.

Finally Jefferson explains the real reason why he did this cut-and-paste job:

I, too, have made a wee-little book from the same materials (The Gospels) which I call the Philosophy of Jesus. It is a paradigma of his doctrines, made by cutting the texts out of the book and arranging them on the pages of a blank book, in a certain order of time or subject. A more beautiful or precious morsel of ethics I have never seen. It is a document in proof that I am a REAL CHRISTIAN, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus, very different from the Platonists, who call ME infidel and THEMSELVES Christians and preachers of the Gospel, while they draw all their characteristic dogmas from what its author never said nor saw. They have compounded from the heathen mysteries a system beyond the comprehension of man, of which the great reformer of the vicious ethics and deism of the Jews, were he to return on earth, would not recognize one feature.–Jefferson.

Jefferson, Thomas. The Jefferson Bible (Illustrated) (Kindle Locations 72-78). . Kindle Edition.

There, is that now perfectly clear?

Amen.

All Things Bright and Beautiful…

All Creatures Great & Small (2020)

Courtesy of Wikipedia

We’ve been watching this new adaptation of James Herriot’s books on PBS on Sunday nights, season two. I have always wondered why we needed a new version when the original BBC series was perfectly fine. The difference, I expect is that the original people, that the characters were modeled on, are all now dead and gone, hence no one can take offence anymore.

Now and then

The author of the original series of books wrote them under a pen name. His real name was James Alfred (“Alf”) Wight, a veterinarian based in Thirsk, Yorkshire.

Alf Wight
The original premises of their veterinary clinic is now the Herriot Museum

The year depicted is supposed to be 1937. In reality Alf became partners with Donald Sinclair in July, 1940, when Donald wanted to join the RAF. (He pretended to be younger than he really was, so he didn’t make the cut; they discharged him when the authorities realized that his work as a vet was more valuable to the country than anything else he could provide for the war effort.)

Wight enlisted in the RAF in November 1942. He did well in his training, and was one of the first in his flight to fly solo. After undergoing surgery on an anal fistula in July 1943, he was deemed unfit to fly combat aircraft and was discharged as a leading aircraftman the following November. He joined his wife at her parents’ house, where she had lived since he left Thirsk. They lived there until the summer of 1945, when they moved back to 23 Kirkgate after Sinclair and his wife moved to a house of their own.

Wikipedia

So, in one paragraph, we get a lot of detail that we haven’t seen in the updated version of the show: both James Herriot and Sigfried Farnon had wives. But the disparity between the dates is explained by this series of words:

Based on the year when he started work in Thirsk, the stories in the first two books would have taken place early during the Second World War. Wight preferred to have them take place in a quieter era so he set them in pre-war years.

Ibid

If you have not read any of James Herriot’s books, may I suggest that you do so, if at all possible?

The Lord God made them all…

When the Author Becomes the Avenging Angel

Harlan Coben (January 4, 1962)

There aren’t many novels that can grab me from the first paragraph and keep me riveted to the final page. Harlan Coben‘s “Gone for Good” did that, over the weekend.

Courtesy of Goodreads

Three days before her death, my mother told me–these weren’t her last words, but they were pretty close–that my brother was still alive.

Gone for Good (opening paragraph)

Blurb from the Back Cover

“As a boy, Will Klein had a hero: his older brother, Ken. Then, on a warm suburban night in the Kleins’ affluent New jersey neighborhood, a young woman–a girl Will had once loved–was found brutally murdered in her family’s basement. The prime suspect: Ken Klein. With the evidence against him overwhelming, Ken simply vanished. And when his shattered family never heard from Ken again, they were sure he was gone for good.

“Now eleven years have passed. Will has found proof that Ken is alive. And this is just the first in a series of stunning revelations, as Will is forced to confront startling truths about his brother, and even himself. As a violent mystery unwinds around him, Will knows he must press his search all the way to the end. Because the most powerful surprises are yet to come.”

As in All Great Novels, There’s a Protagonist and There’s an Antagonist

“Gone for Good” is written in a first person narrative. That makes all of the author’s words personal. Unfortunately, it also makes everyone else’s actions suspect, because we have no access to their internal dialogs. One of the main villains of the book, a man they called the Ghost, seems to be the author’s stand-in. Everything he does seems to be with pure evil intent, and yet, he is the one that drives the narrative to its unpredictable outcome. (And looking at Mr. Coben’s photograph, I think the Ghost may be styled on his own personality and appearance.)

Harlan Coben’s Birth Chart

Warning: the timing is completely randomized. And yet it is quite revealing. Like Emily Brontë, Harlan Coben has a conjunction between Venus and Mars, this time @ 8° Capricorn. Love and Hate, again. It also represents the Light and the Shadow. That is probably why the story has so much violence. I’m not even going to delineate the inconjunct aspects, as they are descriptions of the usual suspects.

Disparu à jamais

Imagine my surprise when I realized that this novel is a limited series on Netflix. The New Jersey setting has been moved to Nice, France. Originally filmed in French, it has been dubbed into English, almost seamlessly. But the storytelling has taken on a totally different flavour, and has lost its earthiness.

The names have changed, the focus, too. (Admittedly, I’ve only watched the first episode so far, but the mystery has taken on the personal relationship ethos, as is the French way, of course.) Reading the novel, I got a sense of confusion in Will’s mind, but no doubts about his feelings for Sheila. And the fact that she might have been connected to Ken and Julie, in some hidden past relationship, added to the mystery. But now it seems that she is dead, too.

Long you always

Seventy Years Ago, Today, She Became…

Queen Elizabeth II

On this day in 1952, Elizabeth II became queen of the United Kingdom upon the death of her father, George VI.

It’s a sad fact that one cannot ascend the throne unless one’s reigning parent dies. (Ask Charles…)

Notice that George VI’s time of death coincided with the Ascendant at the Angel Gate. Hmm. The Sun had been at that same position all the previous day. Elizabeth, who was in Kenya with Philip at the time, on the first leg of a royal tour that would take them to Australia and New Zealand.

The night the King died, the Queen and Prince Philip had spent the night at a game-viewing lodge just over 100 miles (165km) from Nairobi.

British hunter Jim Corbett who was also staying at the lodge at the time famously wrote in the visitor’s guide book: “For the first time in the history of the world, a young girl climbed into a tree one day a Princess and after having what she described as her most thrilling experience she climbed down from the tree next day a Queen.”

The Independent

There is but one inconjunct:

Uranus Inconjunct Midheaven

You need to express your thoughts and feelings, but you often upset the people around you with your words. You seem to enjoy creating a stir every time you say something, but this can get you into quite a bit of trouble with parents, teachers and other authority figures. The underlying principle of this aspect is the need to balance your individual self-expression and manner of communicating with your need to learn and grow under the guidance of older people.

Certainly you will discover your own routes to what you want in life. Now you need to be given the confidence and encouragement to look for these routes on your own with total freedom.

Ironic, isn’t it? She’s been studying hard to be her father’s understudy of all things royal up until this time. Then she has one night of freedom in a game-viewing lodge, only to find out the next day that her father had died.

We’ve looked at Queen Elizabeth II previously. But have you thought about how her father’s death affected her, besides making her the next reigning monarch?

When you compare the charts, it makes visible how serious her life became: her Mars/Jupiter conjunction is now conjunct his ‘fatal’ Sun/Ascendant in Aquarius. Her Pluto is conjunct his ‘fatal’ Uranus. Her Neptune is conjunct his ‘fatal’ Pluto. Those are very big boots to fill, for sure.

Image of the Queen and Prince Philip captured by my wife Susan in 2012

In spite of the family crises happening at least once in every decade of her reign, The Queen has kept her composure in public, and soldiered on, just as her father would have wanted her to. Bless.

Here’s the Real (Captain) McCoy

William Frederick McCoy (August 17, 1877 – December 30, 1948)

1921

One of the astrologers on WordPress hides behind the name CaptMcCoy. I’m not familiar with American bootleggers in history, so of course I missed the significance of this nom de plume. When I sent an email to the email address on file, I asked him if I could call him Jeremy. I didn’t get a response.

William McCoy was an honest lawbreaker. You’ll see what I mean when I share his birth chart with you.

The timing is randomized, but seemingly correct. That Jupiter/Ascendant @ 24° Sagittarius speaks volumes to me. However, the inconjuncts will flesh this out for whomever is interested:

Mars Inconjunct Midheaven

This aspect can mean that you have mixed feelings about all authority figures, including your parents. You may feel that you have to violate the rules laid down by your parents in order to get your way. This is a significant problem, because if it continues into adulthood, you will have great difficulties with employers. Therefore it is very important that your parents teach you how to express your self-assertive drives without going against their teachings. Unfortunately it is impossible to state how that should be done, because the conflict between self-will, on one hand, and self-denial and work, on the other, is different for each person.

Jupiter Inconjunct Pluto

You have a great deal of creative power, and the major challenge of your life will be learning how to handle it. First of all, you must realize that you will get the most out of life if you direct your energies toward helping the people around you and those you love. You will want to change many conditions in the world, which is fine as long as your reasons are not purely selfish ones.

If you use the energies of this aspect selfishly, you will have serious conflicts with authorities, people in power, and adults in general. You may try to make changes before you have learned how to do so creatively, without provoking such resistance that your efforts are blocked.

Saturn Inconjunct Midheaven

Unless you are truly supported by your family and friends, you will begin to feel lonely and isolated from others and inferior to them. Also you are likely to have very serious difficulties with authority figures, because you are afraid of how they will treat you, not expecting that anyone will ever give you the loving guidance you need. You will see all authorities only as potential treats to your freedom and as sources of pain and trouble.

Pluto Inconjunct Ascendant

This can be an indication that through experiences with others, you will be forced to undergo many significant changes in life. At times the crises may be quite unpleasant, but for the most part the results will be very positive, although for some people, they may be less constructive. But you must be very careful about the kind of people you get involved with. Choose your friends with great care and try to find people who have a healthy outlook on life and who seem reasonably well balanced. People who are driven to extreme behavior or who act compulsively, as if they could not plan anything in advance, are not very good for you. They will get you into difficult situations that you do not need.

Conclusion

If this is the hero of the unnamed blogger/astrologer that I’ve been communicating with, I may need to back off permanently, for fear of guilt by association. Sorry, Jeremy, if this is a bit too close to the bone.
