Is “Call the Midwife” an Aide-mémoire or Something More?

Jennifer Worth (September 25, 1935 – May 31, 2011)

This PBS-BBC series is fascinating. As a glimpse of British life in the 1950’s and 1960’s, it is without peer. But is it just a memory piece, or is it a nurse’s manual, written by a former midwife?

(Season One trailer)

Meet Jennifer Worth (“Jenny” Lee)

“Jenny” Lee was hired as a staff nurse at the London Hospital in Whitechapel in the 1950s. With the Sisters of St John the Divine, an Anglican community of nuns, she worked to aid the poor. She was then a ward sister at the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital in Bloomsbury. She left midwifery to work in palliative care at the Marie Curie Hospice in Hampstead

Wikipedia

As you might expect, Jennifer Worth‘s birth time is unknown, so I have rectified her chart to show the age (28) when she married her husband Philip (Mars). There are three inconjuncts, two of which form a Yod, pointing at Uranus. The remining one is dependent on a correct birth time, but ‘feels’ right..

Sun Inconjunct Uranus

There is a side of your personality that is very restless and impatient with rules, even when you know they are for your own good. You want very much to go your own way and do your own thing, even when you aren’t entirely sure that it is the right direction for you. So you rebel in subtle ways by having sudden fits of obstinacy and moods of feeling very contrary, especially to your parents or other authority figures.

Mercury Inconjunct Ascendant

You are likely to have some problems, but not serious ones, in communicating with others. The problem is that people’s first impression of you may not fit in with what you say or your manner of thinking and speaking. People tend to hear what they expect to hear, and they may not listen to you as carefully as they should. So you will have to be as clear as possible and insist that others listen to what you are really saying. If others do not understand you, it is up to you to set them straight.

Mars Inconjunct Uranus

You have a tendency to be rash and impulsive, which may get in your way. If matters proceed too slowly, you are likely to make a sudden move that upsets the whole situation and forces you to start over again. You must learn to be patient if you want to achieve your objectives.

(That may explain getting out of nursing altogether in 1973 and becoming a piano teacher.)

I’ve Been Reminded that I’m a “Projector” in…

Human Design

Chart courtesy of my free Human Design report

Researching the internet, this morning I came across this blog post about my specific Human Design profile. I should like to quote from their split definition of my 2-4 Hermit/Opportunist profile:

Line 2: The Hermit

Alone time deeply replenishes you. In doing so, this helps you live out the other side to your profile (2/4 for example) and means you can really be at your best. Giving yourself an opportunity to retreat and withdraw will have a very nourishing effect on you. You may find that a lot of things come somewhat easy to you, and that you may be known as a ‘natural’ at many things.

Line 4: The Opportunist

You are a brilliant networker. Friendly and very aware of others. People are drawn to your energy and want to be in your space. This is a high output frequency to have, so downtime is absolutely necessary for you to replenish. Your invitations come from being around others and letting them speak about you and your work with others.

(Sounds all too familiar…)

.

Thanks, Ingrid.

Lest We Forget: a Member of the Poppy Family

Susan Jacks (August 19, 1948 – April 25, 2022)

They say old stars never die, they just fade away. Well, unfortunately, they do die, and they remind us all that we’re getting closer to the final curtain, ourselves. Susan Jacks died on Monday.

She has had kidney problems for many years. It finally caught up with her this week while waiting for another donation. Oh, COVID-19, you’ve been so cruel.

A song written by Bruce Miller

.

Her birth time is unknown, so I have rectified her chart to show her becoming a musical star @ 16 (Neptune) and marrying Terry Jacks @ 19 (Mars). This looks right. Notice that there are no inconjuncts.

Susan Jacks has been around the Canadian musical scene since the late 60’s.

Now she will be remembered forever.

RIP xo

Confessions of a Dangerous Mind?

Chuck Barris (June 3, 1929 – March 21, 2017)

1976 – The Gong Show

I probably wouldn’t have looked at this individual if it hadn’t been for a list of movies filmed in Canada.

.

This birth time is considered “excellent”, which is just as well, since nothing else can be taken at face value about Chuck Barris. That Libra Rising opposition to the Moon in Aries and trine to Mercury in Gemini is a bit suspect. There is one inconjunct.

Jupiter Inconjunct Saturn

This aspect may signify great restlessness and unease, so that it is disfficult for you to achieve a state of balance or feel calm and at ease. Often you have contradictory impulse: you want to plunge ahead into some relatively risky activity, but you are held back by feelings of caution or inhibition. It is often difficult to decide whether you want to act on your own or in a situation that is very structured and regulated. If your situation is too structured, you will feel closed in and repressed; you will want to break free and go off by yourself and do things your way. But when you get that freedom, you feel rather lost and at loose ends. and you find it difficult to set your own pace.

You may have mixed feelings about authority as well. On one hand you respect and admire your parents, teachers and other adults who guide your growth, but at the same time you resist their teachings. At times you resent these people very much, because they seem to limit you so.

The best solution is to learn how to discipline yourself and structure your activities so that you do not have to contend with regulation by others. Then you will discover that your problems with authority come from within, not from the people who are trying to give you discipline and self-control from without. Perhaps the best way to handle this problem in your life is to make a reasonable evaluation of any situation, make up your mind rather quickly and stick to it until you have completed the activity.

A Yod featuring inconjuncts from the Moon and Neptune to his ‘fatal’ Ascendant? That’s proof he made the whole thing up…

I’ve Decided to Borrow a Term from Salman Rushdie

Midnight’s Children

Yesterday, I was watching a YouTube video from my friend (and fellow astrologer) Ellie Adams. In it, she was discussing all about the midpoint between the Sun and the Moon with regards to Synestry (the astrology of relationships). I had a sudden flash of insight (as you do), and realized that the midpoint of a Sun/Moon opposition both squared to the Ascendant, is that same Rising degree. In my latest a-ha chart moment, the Moon was conjunct the Midheaven, due to a birth time of 12:01 A.M. Wow!

Midnight’s Children!

And Speaking of Salman Rushdie (June 19, 1947)

2008

Salman Rushdie is a English-American writer of Indian descent. He has been living under a fatwā since 1989 after writing about Muhammad in the book “The Satanic Verses”. So, he’s no stranger to controversy.

The midpoint of his natal Sun/Moon conjunction is 26° Gemini 39′, which is less that 1° from Polaris, the North Star on his 3rd House cusp! He has but one inconjunct, which we have seen before, recently.

Uranus Inconjunct Midheaven

You need to express your thoughts and feelings, but you often upset the people around you with your words. You seem to enjoy creating a stir every time you say something, but this can get you into quite a bit of trouble with parents, teachers and other authority figures. The underlying principle of this aspect is the need to balance your individual self-expression and manner of communicating with your need to learn and grow under the guidance of older people.

I rest my case, m’lord.

Melancholy Music for a Melancholy Man

Dido (December 25, 1971)

2019

She said she was “No Angel” but I’m inclined to disagree with that. Dido is a God-send and her music helped me to cope during a very turbulent period in my life at the beginning of the 21st century.

.

Her birth time is purposely randomized because no one knows when it was. But it’s ‘not so bad, not so bad at all’. The positioning of her Venus/North Node conjunction in Aquarius may represent her breakout album @ 28. I like the idea that she is a Capricorn Sun with Cancer Rising, and that her Moon in Aries packs a punch in the 10th House. (She knocked me over, for sure.)

There are two inconjuncts, one dependent on a correct birth time, the other, not at all.

Sun Inconjunct Saturn (absolutely)

You will have to learn the difference between having self-control and discipline, on one hand, and totally denying yourself any self-expression, on the other. This aspect can mean that you feel extremely unworthy, which undermines your self-confidence and makes it hard to face obstacles in life with confidence and determination.

Uranus Inconjunct Midheaven (perhaps)

You need to express your thoughts and feelings, but you often upset the people around you with your words. You seem to enjoy creating a stir every time you say something, but this can get you into quite a bit of trouble with parents, teachers and other authority figures. The underlying principle of this aspect is the need to balance your individual self-expression and manner of communicating with your need to learn and grow under the guidance of other people.

This video made her a star

Climate Change: an Act of Compassion

Wynn Bruce Sets Himself on Fire (April 22, 2022)

Wynn Bruce

A man (54) from Boulder, Colorado burned himself to death in front of the US Supreme Court. Why?

It takes guts to try to set the world on fire by committing suicide in a public space. Other Buddhists have done that before, but they’re usually on the other side of the world, so that hardly anyone in the West notices. (And, if you’re wondering why you haven’t heard about this man, blame the news editors…)

Uranus Inconjunct Ascendant

Your need to be free and do what you want is often in conflict with what others require of you and even with what you feel you ought to do. Sometimes this conflict can cause considerable physical and emotional tension. The task you face is to organize your life in a disciplined way that will enable you to satisfy your need for freedom through your everyday activities.

The restless energies of this aspect should be given some kind of release, because otherwise they can turn inward to create the kind of rash and compulsive actions that lead to accidents.

Possible Motive?

On October 30, 2020, he shared a link to an online class on climate change offered by edX, a free online course platform created by Harvard and MIT.

Last April, he went back and commented: ‘4-1-1 4/22/2022,’ along with a fire emoji.

Surveillance footage of the immediate aftermath of the fire show police officers as they attempt to calm Bruce, who can be heard screaming in the background.

Police are still investigating a motive, but a Buddhist priest from Boulder took to Twitter to clarify that Bruce’s death was not a suicide, but a ‘deeply fearless act of compassion.’

May he Rest in Peace.

When a Memory Turns into a Nightmare, too

Requiem (continued)

DVD cover courtesy of Amazon

OK. We have finished watching this series on Netflix, so I am now going to discuss some aspects of it.

The watching of Requiem may be timely, in some ways: the 15 year anniversary of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann is fast approaching. A suspect has finally been named by the Portuguese authorities, to keep the case alive (because of their statute of limitations). Madeleine was just turning four when she was abducted. The girl in this series was also very young when she disappeared.

But that’s not the real issue, here: the story is about a child being used by a group of individuals who were attempting to summon an archangel, using John Dee and Edward Kelley’s methods from the late 16th century. Evidently, the owner of the grand house where all this took place was a descendant of John Dee. And the clue, for me, was the hieroglyph on a marker in the garden, and other places nearby.

So, in some ways, this is personal.

And, as I have often stated on these posts, “Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it.”

More News about Non-Binary Beings

Janelle Monáe (December 1, 1982)

2019

Well, that was totally unexpected: Janelle Monáe comes out as non-binary on Red Table Talk.

And just yesterday, I watched an automobile commercial that features Janelle, and wondered about her.

The name Audi is primarily a gender-neutral name of Latin origin that means Listen.

Hmm.

Well, according to what I’ve learned through this process of erecting birth charts for transgender and non-binary individuals, I should have seen this coming, but, as usual, 20/20 hindsight is perfect. Oh, well. But, it triggered a memory of another individual who has a similar T-square Sun/Moon/Ascendant.

Yeah, yeah, I know. Such sacrilege, eh? But consider the fact of the “Second Coming”: is this not interesting, at least?

When you compare Janelle’s birth chart with Jesus’ birth and death charts, we get some ‘connections’: Janelle’s Ascendant is conjunct Jesus’ natal Pluto; Janelle’s Mars is conjunct Jesus’ ‘fatal’ Neptune; Janelle’s South Node is conjunct Jesus’ ‘fatal’ Mars; Janelle’s Sun is conjunct Jesus’ ‘fatal’ Pluto; Janelle’s Uranus is conjunct Jesus’ ‘fatal’ South Node; Janelle’s Jupiter is conjunct Jesus’ natal Venus; and Janelle’s Pluto is within 4° of Jesus’ natal South Node. So, yes, they are connected…

When a Memory Turns into a Nightmare

Requiem (2018)

WARNING: Embargoed for publication until 00:00:01 on 05/05/2017 – Programme Name: Requiem – TX: n/a – Episode: Requiem – early release (No. n/a) – Picture Shows: ***EMBARGOED UNTIL 00.01 MAY 5TH 2017*** Matilda (LYDIA WILSON) – (C) New Pictures – Photographer: Adrian Rogers

We started watching this eerie series last night on Netflix. Ordinarily, I stay away from ‘gothic thrillers’ but this one has an interesting vibe to it: the classical music in the soundtrack.

.

In a way, I can understand what is happening to this young woman, but is it madness, or is it memory?

I won’t reveal anything further, for the moment. By the end of the sixth episode, I may say more.
