The Legendary Life and Death of the Red Baron

Manfred von Richthofen (May 2, 1892 – April 21, 1918)

I guess Charles Schulz knew a lot about this Great War pilot’s life when he pitted Snoopy in a Sopwith Camel against Baron von Richthofen. In a ‘dog fight’ between German and Canadian piloted RAF planes, the man, who had 80 ‘kills’ to his name, was finally brought back down to earth.

Just to be clear, I have set the clock for the Baron’s birth at 5:00 am, in order for Mars to be conjunct the Midheaven and in the 10th House. There are two inconjuncts for the day, with neither of them dependent on a correct time of birth.

Mercury Inconjunct Saturn

This aspect can have several different meanings. First of all, you may have hidden fears that are difficult to express, but they cause you to do things that others can’t understand. These may include fear of the dark or of certain places or people. Or this aspect can mean that you often feel depressed and sad for no apparent reason. You tend to see the serious side of life, and it weighs on you more than most people.

It is possible that your thinking will become unnaturally rigid for someone of your age. You may get into routines or habits that you are afraid to break, for you prefer familiar paths of life and known ways of doing things.

Venus Inconjunct Mars

You must learn to control your emotions to some extent, so that your feelings do not prevent you from getting along with others. It is difficult for you to react to someone without emotions, for you tend to either love or hate people quite intensely. Your feelings are often mixed, even toward your friends. One moment you love your friend, and the next moment you hate him or her. Any little problem can set off your anger against someone, but you usually cool off quickly also.

Did His Temper Kill Him in the End?

Richthofen received a fatal wound just after 11:00 am on 21 April 1918 while flying over Morlancourt Ridge near the Somme River. At the time, he had been pursuing, at very low altitude, a Sopwith Camel piloted by novice Canadian pilot Lieutenant Wilfrid “Wop” May of No. 209 Squadron, Royal Air Force. May had just fired on the Red Baron’s cousin Lt. Wolfram von Richthofen. On seeing his cousin being attacked, Manfred flew to his rescue and fired on May, causing him to pull away. Richthofen pursued May across the Somme. The Baron was spotted and briefly attacked by a Camel piloted by May’s school friend and flight commander, Canadian Captain Arthur “Roy” Brown. Brown had to dive steeply at very high speed to intervene, and then had to climb steeply to avoid hitting the ground. Richthofen turned to avoid this attack, and then resumed his pursuit of May.

It was almost certainly during this final stage in his pursuit of May that a single .303 bullet hit Richthofen through the chest, severely damaging his heart and lungs; it would have killed Richthofen in less than a minute. His aircraft stalled and went into a steep dive, hitting the ground at 49°55′56″N 2°32′16″E in a field on a hill near the Bray-Corbie road, just north of the village of Vaux-sur-Somme, in a sector defended by the Australian Imperial Force (AIF). The aircraft bounced heavily upon hitting the ground: the undercarriage collapsed and the fuel tank was smashed before the aircraft skidded to a stop. Several witnesses, including Gunner George Ridgway, reached the crashed plane and found Richthofen already dead, and his face slammed into the butts of his machine guns, breaking his nose, fracturing his jaw and creating contusions on his face.

Wikipedia

The Uranus inconjunct Ascendant of the Red Baron’s ‘fatal’ chart gives the biggest clue to what happened. I suspect he made a split second decision to chase after May, to protect his cousin, and in the end paid for that decision with his life.

The RAF credited Brown with shooting down the Red Baron, but it is now generally agreed by historians, doctors, and ballistics experts that Richthofen was actually killed by an anti-aircraft (AA) machine gunner firing from the ground. An autopsy showed the bullet that killed Richthofen penetrated from the right armpit and exited next to the left nipple. Brown’s attack was probably from behind and above Richthofen’s left. Even more conclusively, Richthofen could not have continued his pursuit of May for as long as he did (up to two minutes) had his wound come from Brown. Brown himself never spoke much about what happened that day, claiming, “There is no point in me commenting, as the evidence is already out there.”

And So Ended the Legend in his Own Time

The Wellspring*: Progress

November 23, 2021: *New Channelling (XXXVI)

You cannot go back to a state of unknowing.

Progress forward needs the accumulation of knowledge, learning to recognise connections and formulating new ways, with the wisdom accrued,; this takes many lifetimes and each being is growing towards the new formulation of destiny.

For those who choose to ignore their own power and rely on the opinions of others (who shout the loudest) are destined to remain in ignorance and servitude. It takes courage to move away from herd mentality, just to feel they belong.

The spiritual path is a lonely one and wanders into unknown regions and this can be hard to endure. In that loneliness, you are learning to trust your own thoughts and intuition to guide you, and it is like moving through a fog. Here you have to listen inwardly to avoid the hazards, trusting yourself alone to guide you. There are false prophets.

The human mind is used to limitation so to break through into new thinking can cause you to question and doubt. Unconventional ideas often lead to ‘aloneness’, for there appears to be so few who understand. They will criticise, trying to pull you back into the familiar thought patterns. Families are often the hardest to break way from, for they will feel threatened if you stray from the family philosophy and norms and they regard any deviation as a betrayal. To lose family support can be very hard.

The consolation is that you will eventually meet like-minded individuals who will provide the reassurance needed to continue towards your new horizons.

He Outfoxed Them All, Even in Death

Erwin Rommel (November 15, 1891 – October 14, 1944)

In 1942

They called him “The Desert Fox”, mostly from his commanding the 7th Panzer (tank) division in North Africa during WWII for the Nazi War Machine. There are legends attached to his leadership style, but none of them may be true. Erwin Rommel was (and still is) an enigma.

I was highly suspicious of the 12 noon birth time, until I realized that the accuracy rating is AA, because someone had a copy of his birth certificate. But, I need to remind you, the birth clock is usually rounded up to the top of the hour, so we could have a slightly inaccurate time, by as much as half an hour either way.

However, since he was a soldier, I was looking for a connection between Mars and the Midheaven, and as it stands, they are connected in this chart as inconjuncts to the Moon, forming a Yod. Hmm.

Moon Inconjunct Mars

Until you learn to handle your feelings, you are likely to get angry easily, have temper tantrums and be touchy about what is yours and what is not. You may feel you have to defend yourself against imagined threats. The problem here is that you are likely to become too emotionally involved with ideas, opinions or even objects without knowing it until someone threatens them. The you react as if you were being personally threatened or attacked. You have to realize that it is possible to change your opinions and attitudes without damaging your worth as a person.

Moon Inconjunct Midheaven

Work very hard to develop an objective awareness of what you are doing and where you are going. You will need this understanding to guide your emotions, which might otherwise lead you astray and make it difficult for you to focus on your goals. Even though you won’t have to choose a career or purpose in life for many years, you can learn now to have good perception, which will make it easier to choose later on. Learn to see others’ points of view, even if you cannot accept them. Learn to make logical decisions, and do not let passing moods color your attitudes about yourself and your life too much.

(I am reminded that his legendary popularity may be due to the Moon…in Taurus.)

Neptune Conjunct Pluto (the Fox energy)

The entire generation to which you belong has tremendous opportunities for spiritual rebirth and awakening. This will not be forced upon you or precipitated by unavoidable events, rather it comes from an inner yearning and a natural propensity to seek the depths.

(This is an almost exact conjunction @ 8° Gemini.)

Plot Against Hitler (from Wikipedia)

The role that Rommel played in the military’s resistance against Hitler or the 20 July plot is difficult to ascertain, as most of the leaders who were directly involved did not survive and limited documentation on the conspirators’ plans and preparations exists. One piece of evidence that points to the possibility that Rommel came to support the assassination plan was General Eberbach’s confession to his son (eavesdropped on by British agencies) while in British captivity, which stated that Rommel explicitly said to him that Hitler and his close associates had to be killed because this would be the only way out for Germany. This conversation occurred about a month before Rommel was coerced into committing suicide.

This is another noon time chart, because the exact timing of his death is not known. It looks like a spur-of-the-moment decision but allowed Rommel to die a hero, instead of a disgraced traitor. The ‘fatal’ conjunction of the Moon and Jupiter is the proof of that, in T-square with Uranus @ 13° Gemini and the Ascendant @ 20° Sagittarius.

The official notice of Rommel’s death as reported to the public stated that he had died of either a heart attack or a cerebral embolism—a complication of the skull fractures he had suffered in the earlier strafing of his staff car. To strengthen the story, Hitler ordered an official day of mourning in commemoration of his death. As promised, Rommel was given a state funeral but it was held in Ulm instead of Berlin as had been requested by Rommel. Hitler sent Field Marshal Rundstedt (who was unaware that Rommel had died as a result of Hitler’s orders) as his representative to the funeral. The truth behind Rommel’s death became known to the Allies when intelligence officer Charles Marshall interviewed Rommel’s widow, Lucia Rommel, as well as from a letter by Rommel’s son Manfred in April 1945.

The Wellspring*: Cooperation

November 21, 2021: *New Channelling (XXXV)

The engine of society is cooperation.

When this does not happen, the society begins to deteriorate. What you are now observing is the failure of many to integrate, to be a working force for the greater wellbeing. During the present times the rights, wishes and interests of the individual are paramount, and, so often, the bigger picture of cohesiveness is lost. This process has come about because modern life now seeks instant gratification and systems have been set up to make easy access to material possessions the norm.

The wheels of justice move slowly. The old attitudes of morality and correct action with mutual respect can be circumvent with anonymity, as people become more isolated from each other. We know from history that there have been great civilisations in the past which have disappeared into the sands of time and generally this has happened due to complacency and corruption.

All the old norms are passing away and uncertainty leads to fear. This is a great test of these times, to remain centred while the old world changes. The media excels in encouraging sensation which often has no bearing on the truth, and the overuse of resources will eventually cause exhaustion, and a period of want will become inevitable.

Material advances have brought great benefits but, unfortunately, lead to high expectation that all this will continue. The world resources are finite, so rethinking will be forced, when so much has been wasted.

It was Déjà Vu All Over Again

@Williams Coffee Pub

Storm image from June 2017

It’s been such a long time since we’ve been able to get a cup of coffee and a sandwich @Williams Coffee Pub that I had forgotten the joy of such a simple treat. Sitting there yesterday reminded me of this image from 2017: only, this time, a snow storm was brewing (along with the coffee) but the view out the window was the same. A shiver went up my spine. Lovely.

I Fought the Law and the Law Won

Bernard Law Montgomery (November 17, 1887 – March 24, 1976)

He seemed a handsome man in his youth. Bernard Montgomery went on to become a Field Marshal and commander of the troops in WWII against Rommel in Africa. I was tempted to compare his charts with James Blunt, but thought better of it, since Montgomery was still alive when Blunt was born.

What I was hoping, and expecting, to see was some connection between Mars and the Midheaven. But because I do not know if this birth time is accurate, I wonder if the original compiler saw the potential of a Yod connecting these points and went for it. There are three inconjuncts.

Moon Inconjunct Neptune

People with this aspect often hide their real feelings and make sacrifices for others that they do not really want to make. Then they resent the person who asked for the sacrifice. You must learn to tell people how you really feel; if you do not, you have only yourself to blame for what happens. You must learn to accept that you are responsible for your own life. Do not act as if you are the victim of strong forces that you can’t control, because you can control them.

Mars Inconjunct Midheaven

This aspect can mean that you have mixed feelings about all authority figures, including your parents. You may feel that you have to violate rules laid down by your parents in order to get your way. This is a significant problem, because if it continues into adulthood, you will have great difficulties with employers. Therefore it is very important that your parents teach you how to express your self-assertive drives without going against their teachings. Unfortunately it is impossible to state how that should be done, because the conflict between self-will, on one hand, and self-denial and work, on the other, is different for each person.

Jupiter Inconjunct Midheaven

The problem with this aspect is to find a balance between, on the one hand, expressing yourself creatively, perhaps artistically, and having a good time, on the other hand, getting ahead in life, learning the ways of the world and finding an acceptable role in society. You know you will have to make sacrifices in order to accomplish anything of value.

A Telling Detail…Re: Marriage

In 1927, he met and married Elizabeth (Betty) Carver, née Hobart. She was the sister of the future Second World War commander Major-General Sir Percy Hobart. Betty Carver had two sons in their early teens, John and Dick, from her first marriage to Oswald Carver. Dick Carver later wrote that it had been “a very brave thing” for Montgomery to take on a widow with two children. Montgomery’s son, David, was born in August 1928.

While on holiday in Burnham-on-Sea in 1937, Betty suffered an insect bite which became infected, and she died in her husband’s arms from septicaemia following amputation of her leg. The loss devastated Montgomery, who was then serving as a brigadier, but he insisted on throwing himself back into his work immediately after the funeral. Montgomery’s marriage had been extremely happy. Much of his correspondence with his wife was destroyed when his quarters at Portsmouth were bombed during the Second World War. After Montgomery’s death, John Carver wrote that his mother had arguably done the country a favour by keeping his personal oddities—his extreme single-mindedness, and his intolerance of and suspicion of the motives of others—within reasonable bounds long enough for him to have a chance of attaining high command

Conclusions

The whole Mars/Midheaven connection seems to be a standard aspect for most military men in the modern era. I looked again at Old Blood and Guts, and wasn’t surprised to see his Mars in opposition to the Midheaven. And, yes, even my birth chart contains a conjunction between Mars and the Midheaven (in Libra), but Mars is in the 9th House, not the 10th. That’s probably why I didn’t go into the military, although my first wife wanted me to.

Even peaceful warriors need to understand this…

And Speaking of Soldiers, Here’s a Decorated Hero

Douglas MacArthur (January 26, 1880 – April 5, 1964)

Nicknamed the “Big Chief” from Little Rock, Douglas MacArthur had an illustrious military career. While looking for a past life for James Blunt, I saw a ‘corncob’ pipe, so I knew instantly where to go next. The only things matching MacArthur and Blunt were their growing up as army brats, and their first combat missions in reconnaissance. After that, their paths diverge sharply.

This chart was already on my Kepler 7.0 program, so I haven’t changed a thing. The first detail I noted was the position of Mars in the 10th House of career, conjunct the Midheaven. Doesn’t James Blunt have the same planetary position and conjunction in his chart? Hmm.

There are four inconjuncts, two of which form a Yod pointing at Uranus.

Sun Inconjunct Uranus

There is a side of your personality that is very restless and impatient with rules, even when you know they are for your own good. You want very much to go your own way and do your own thing, even when you aren’t entirely sure that it is the right direction for you. So you rebel in subtle ways by having sudden fits of obstinacy and moods of feeling very contrary, especially to your parents or other authority figures.

Mercury Inconjunct Ascendant

You are likely to have some problems, but not serious ones, in communicating with others. The problem is that people’s first impression of you may not fit in with what you say or your manner of thinking and speaking. People tend to hear what they expect to hear, and they may not listen to you as carefully as they should. So you will have to be as clear as possible and insist that others listen to what you are really saying. If others do not understand you, it is up to you to set them straight.

Venus Inconjunct Pluto

With this aspect you must learn a great deal about the kinds of friends you want and the kinds of experiences you will have through other people. Even while you are still young, you may meet persons who are quite difficult to get along with, but who seem to be impossible to get away from, even when you want to. You may be fascinated by such persons, or circumstances may force you to stay with them. These people do have a definite role to play in your life, but it may not always be a pleasant one. They will teach you something about life or about yourself.

Saturn Inconjunct Uranus

This aspect indicates a serious tension in your life between freedom and restriction. Many people have this conflict, but it your case the tensions may be so severe that you express them physically as muscle tension and possibly nervousness. You feel that somehow you must keep everything in your life under tight control, that if you let go, the whole structure will fall apart. In a very real and direct sense, even while you are young, you must learn to relax.

But is Blunt MacArthur Reborn?

That’s the $64,000 question… I always try to keep an open mind, but sometimes the idea is a bit too outrageous to take seriously. After all, on the surface, these two individuals are so unalike.

Do you see what I see? Blunt’s North Node is conjunct MacArthur’s natal Neptune @ 25° Sagittarius. Blunt’s Part of Fortune is midway between MacArthur’s ‘fatal’ Neptune and Pluto conjunction and conjunct MacArthur’s natal Uranus in Virgo. Blunt’s natal Sun is conjunct MacArthur’s ‘fatal’ Saturn. And most importantly, Blunt’s natal Mars is conjunct MacArthur’s ‘fatal’ Venus and MacArthur’s natal Pluto. Surprising as it may seem, these two soldiers are connected.

Hmm. Can I name that tune?

The Wellspring*: Factory Assembly Line?

November 20, 2021: *New Channelling (XXXIV)

The factory of the human condition produces many products.

Souls come through the system to get opportunities to adjust their different talents, to produce the best outcome during a series of lifetimes, to refine their abilities to manipulate the energies. All go through an apprenticeship, developing the various improvements in using the material and tools available. You are working to produce the most efficient and enhancing outcome through each lifetime, developing talents and comprehension of the materials you work with.

Personal development goes alongside the understanding of matter, exploring all the potential and uses that these discoveries can have in the process of creation. Your scientists specialise in these fields and their discoveries then move on to the greater population to further potential development. It is through “mistakes” that knowledge comes, as each group specialises in maybe one or several aspects at the same time. These develop into team work, all the while raising the individual talents of the soul.

Mankind had to progress to a certain level before the next steps of evolution can take place, when all is known and yet unknown. But, bit by bit and piece by piece, creation happens, and form comes into being. Everything happens in tandem, each step works alongside another, fitting together like cogs in a machine. Individual talents are growing alongside spiritual growth, for. without the checks and balances, the machine would be out of control, and, instead of growth, there would be failure of forward movement, and humanity would be stuck in an ever-turning cycle of repeat.

The energies are here to help the shift on all levels, at the same time, for without the spiritual development of matter, the material development would be restricted.

This is what we mean when talking about a factory. There are different sections which specialise and, when parts come together, form a new product.

One More Soldier in a Long Line of Military Men

James Blunt (February 22, 1974)

James Blunt released his greatest hits album, yesterday. The image on the cover is startling. He’s dressed as a soldier. Oh, right, he used to be one, before he became a pop sensation in 2004.

No one knows what time he was born, so the soldier clue helps in rectifying his birth chart. Like Adele, he has a flurry of planets and lights around his Descendant, and they help to define the timing of events in his life: getting a military scholarship (Jupiter); joining the army (Sun); seeing battle in the Kosovo war (Mercury); and finally, starting his pop career (Moon). All between the ages of 17 and 30.

It’s the Mars (@ 27° Taurus) conjunct the Midheaven (@ 25° Taurus) aspect that absolutely nails this down as correct. That makes his Rising sign Virgo, which is the impression he gives off as a perfectionist. There are multiple inconjuncts.

Sun Inconjunct Pluto

There will be many changes in your life, and you will be affected by deep psychological forces that may be difficult to understand at times, as well as confusing to the people around you. You approach people with great intensity, and your emotional involvements are seldom casual. Either you like people very much or your dislike them intensely. Possibly your attitudes on other matters will be extreme also. One of the most important lessons that you will have to learn is to be more moderate.

Mercury Inconjunct Pluto

This Aspect can mean that at certain times in your life you will go through tremendous psychological changes. All your thoughts and opinions will change completely. These stages may seem difficult, but you will be much better off if you let go of the past and welcome new ideas.

Venus Inconjunct Saturn

You need and want love, but you may not be able to get it easily. You may feel that your parents, teachers or other persons in authority make demands on you that you must fulfill before they will give you any love and support. It that is true, it is unfortunate, because you deserve respect and love as much as anyone. When you get older, you may feel that duty and ambition must come before love and human relationships. Unfortunately, if you follow that path, you will become very lonely, and when you realize that you belong to no one and nothing, you will go through a spiritual crisis.

Mars Inconjunct Uranus

This energy may be expressed as a hot temper, especially when you have to endure restriction or limitation, such as sitting still in a classroom for a long time. You have a rebellious streak that needs to be disciplined, because everyone has to endure some restrictions, and it takes so little to trigger your temper.

Sometimes you may make sudden moves that startle people. You may make a decision very quickly and start to act on it immediately, but that is not such a good idea. Make up your mind more slowly, or at least wait for a while until you start to act. If your idea still looks good a couple of days later, it is probably all right to go ahead with it.

Mars Conjunct Midheaven

This aspect indicates that when you are older you should choose a career in which you can have a great deal of independence and expend a lot of physical energy. If you work for someone else, you will frequently feel more like a competitor than an employee, and if you don’t like the pace set by your employer, you will feel very angry and hostile. You would not be at your best working in a team situation, with the possible exception of an athletic team. This placement of Mars is very common among athletes, but even in a team sport you need to have opportunities to shine on your own in order to be happy.

Uranus Inconjunct Midheaven

You need to express your thought and feelings, but you often upset the people around you with your words. You seem to enjoy creating a stir every time you say something, but this can get you into quite a bit of trouble with parents, teachers and other authority figures. The underlying principle of this aspect is the need to balance your individual self-expression and manner of communicating with your need to learn and grow under the guidance of older people.

Conclusions

The videos that I shared here are mostly from his first album “Back to Bedlam” (2004). The reason for doing so is that his songs speak of the energies that he was experiencing before the album came out. They show the Jupiter through Moon connections. The final video is a homage to his father, and the sum total of his emotional feelings about him, which is why he cried on camera. Is he settled now? i think so.

The Wellspring*: Change Must Happen

November 19, 2021: *New Channelling (XXXIII)

The planetary disruption will continue for quite a while.

Throughout the world lessons are being learnt through all forms of human activity. Each person will have challenges to confront during the coming year that will test and strengthen their soul in preparation for the coming times. Everyone has an aspect of weakness to confront, which was chosen before birth. For those who have been working during their lives to refine and purify their being, these times will be less arduous, but you will observe others who will struggle with the challenges they confront.

This is not something to fear but part of the ongoing process of evolution, raising vibration to a higher level. While in human form the lessons are concentrated and can be worked with and overcome more easily, due to the strife against the fields of matter and emotion. As pure spirit, such work could not be accomplished so easily, and once again, due to the limitation of time during each incarnation, there are limits: indeed, everything passes.

But this is a period of concentrated growth for the human race to awaken to truth and be prepared to reveal their true self in all its glory.

Change must happen; to repeat the past old ways no longer serves and the current energies are here to assist you.
