The Media are the Messengers

1 e4fbY1Y3ur--3VLnSDVFHg

Are They Shaping Opinion or Mirroring our Biases?

Let’s face the facts: money makes the world go round; sometimes in circles.

Those with money want to be in control of everyone else. The rest of us just want to have money, too. It’s the American Dream, writ large.

So, a New York Times article from 2018 discussed which came first: the media or our biases?

What is the Point of the News?

Screen-Shot-2017-04-23-at-1.43.33-PM

Is it to the Left or to the Right?

Opinions matter: governments rise and fall on public opinion. Election years are particularly prone to clear divisions between political ideology. The people decide.

But do they, really?

Now that the Main Stream Media (MSM) are operating on the internet, the lines are being blurred. Previously, you could choose which newspaper or television newscast to watch. Now you’re being fed a mixed bag of goodies through multiple media outlets. And without a strong filter, you could be swallowing a load of garbage.

Take this next image as a case in point:

“Disadvantage the Republican Party”??? Disadvantage the voters, more like.

Conclusion

We know that ‘stuff’ goes on behind the scenes, and that we are being treated like ‘sheeple’. But how can we stop this from happening?

My son, Derek, suggests that not watching TV news would be a smart move. And, as we have seen with reports of an Opioid Epidemic the message may be to warn us of the dangers, or it may be something to distract our attention away from other more pressing matters. But then, if you are going to stop watching television, maybe you should also give up the internet and social media. That’s where the ‘real’ truth seems to be. But is it?

Discernment is the ability to judge whether something is true or not. It is a way of separating the wheat from the chaff. But it is also divisive.

I write this so many times, it must be boring for you, the reader:

WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER.

Caesar: The Die was Cast in 49 B.C.E.

Julius Caesar Crossing the Rubicon

Honestly, you wouldn’t think such an insignificant stream could change the course of history, would you?

Julius Caesar knew the significance of his actions, though. He knew that bringing his troops back home to Rome would be considered a challenge to the Republican ‘authorities’ in the Senate. But he decided to do it anyway, and a civil war ensued. After Caesar was made Dictator, the knives were out for him. He was assassinated just over 5 years later. Did he know it would end that way?

Can we not see a similar situation in the present time?

The timing of this chart was (again) chosen at random. And yet, the resulting inconjunct reminds us that nothing is accidental.

Pluto Inconjunct Midheaven

(Please remember that the text of any and all inconjuncts is the work of Robert Hand, as written in his book Planets in Youth: that’s why the words are directed at a very young person.)

You may have trouble with older people who try to teach you how to effectively take control of your life. Even while you are young, you may resent their control over you and resist everything they are trying to teach you. To a great extent, your path in life will be shaped by your early confrontations with authority figures. Your parents would be well advised to give you as much control as possible over your own affairs and as much self-determination as you can handle. They should not try to keep an extremely tight rein on you, for if they do, you will explode and become very difficult to handle. Also your self-esteem would be damaged. Your parents and teachers should be very straightforward with you, because if you feel that people are not being honest with you, you will not be honest with them. You are quite capable of acting behind people’s backs if you consider it necessary or if you feel that you never get your own way.

Another problem that can arise if you are not treated properly is that you may withdraw into yourself and become very secretive, as though you have something to hide even when you don’t. This can make people distrust you.

Your parents should discipline you in a straightforward manner, and when the punishment is completed, they should leave it at that. You should never be made to feel guilty or remorseful and have no opportunity to make amends for your wrongdoing. With this aspect, feelings of guilt can lead to serious psychological problems.

Conclusion

I know I’ve written about the parallels between the Roman Republic and the United States of America before. No doubt I will again. The links are so obvious.

An ‘innocent’ telephone call in July has brought us to the point of no return for modern democracy. This time, the Senate will stand by its ‘fearless’ leader. But will the country survive? I certainly hope so. I’m not so sure about Donald Trump.

Meanwhile…

Today is a Brand New Day

82306919_2538172942958323_6079107783184089088_o

As Seen on Facebook Today

It seems that the heralded New Day has finally arrived. We’ve been waiting for it since December 21, 2012. The lead-up has been excruciating to watch. Civil unrest seemingly everywhere (Hong Kong, in particular, has been the focus). The French “Yellow Vest” protest has been visible, too, and today, it seems, successful: President Macron has decided to stop the proposed changes to his peoples’ pensions.

In the United States, politics has become very “us vs. them” in practice. The House of Representatives have voted on two articles of Impeachment, but have yet to transmit the paperwork to the Senate for a trial of Trump’s presidency. This action has been promised for this week, by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. In the meantime, Trump decided to take out the top Iranian General Qasem Solimani, as a way of deflecting attention away from his domestic problems, only to have it backfire when the Iranians shot down a Ukrainian airline over Tehran. Finally the Iranians admitted to their “disastrous” mistake on Saturday. That was a first for Iran.

This morning, an alert was sent out to all smartphone users that a nuclear event had occurred in Pickering, Ontario. Then another alert stated about 40 minutes later that the first one had been sent in error. Classic Saturn/Pluto conflict.

I’m Calling Today Twenty-Two Skidoo

This is the moment when Pluto and Saturn become exactly conjunct today. As I’m writing this in the morning, the full picture won’t be visible until later.

Moon Inconjunct Neptune

This aspect indicates that you are very sensitive and that you pick up feelings from the people around you very easily. The danger is that many of these feelings will be difficult to cope with; they may make you afraid of the world and reluctant to go out into it, as you must do when you are older. As a result, you prefer to be alone with your thoughts and let your fancies wander wherever they want to go. When you are older, this may help you use your imagination very creatively, but it won’t help you wok out your everyday problems. You must learn to stand on your own and not depend on others. You also have to learn that you are worth as much as anyone else, for you may tend to withdraw when someone acts aggressive. But the adults who help you learn these lessons must be gentle and understanding. Otherwise you will shrink back into yourself. Above all, you must not be made to feel incompetent or inadequate, or you will think of yourself as a loser all your life.

People with this aspect often hide their real feelings and make sacrifices for others that they do not really want to make. Then they resent the person who asked for the sacrifice. You must learn to tell people how you rally feel; if you do not, you have only yourself to blame for what happens. You must learn to accept that you are responsible for your own life. Do not act as if you are the victim of strong forces that you can’t control, because you can control them.

Conclusion

All through these last few weeks, we’ve seen interesting inconjunctions to the Moon. This means that the process has been very emotional, to say the least. But we seem to be coming through the worst, mostly unscathed (except for Australia).

If we can survive this tumultuous time, we can survive most anything.

Isn’t that cause for celebration?

Above all, stay positive!
