Compromised: Canada’s Tainted Blood

unspeakable_mcheader_750x360-v2

Unspeakable (CBC)

It might seem a strange title, but the horror of having your son, already suffering from haemophilia, suddenly contract AIDS and begin to die is exactly that: unspeakable. The TV drama sets out to explain how it all happened.

There is a saying: “When the U.S. sneezes, Canada catches a cold.”

And so it was with the AIDS epidemic in the States: it got into the blood donation collection before anyone knew the donors were infected, and the recipients of blood transfusions and other plasma combinations were then similarly infected. Canada got most of its blood supply from the States and as one person said, “The disease didn’t suddenly stop at the border.”

This story is told through the eyes of several families who were on the front lines, so to speak. The main lesson to be taken away from this tale is: “Don’t believe everything the authorities tell you.”

And people are surprised that seniors (meaning my generation) are the most likely to share “fake” news? We distrust everyone in authority. But we’ve not supposed to say that: it’s Unspeakable,

Alpha and Omega: Bob Lazar’s Return

mv5bmjq4ndezytctndflms00owy5ltg3mjctmjbmyzcxywjkmgy3xkeyxkfqcgdeqxvymzi3mduxmja@._v1_

Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers

Well, we haven’t yet seen the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky with his angels in the traditional sense. But since 1946, after the first atomic blasts of World War II, we have seen a lot of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO’s) — are these the “clouds” of his power and great glory? In his book Alien Liaison: The Ultimate Secret, Timothy Good has tried to get the US government to admit that they are tacitly, at least, co-operating with extraterrestrials. Here he quotes from a discussion between a scientist and his friend about a document that the scientist had seen which explained what was actually going on:

There were references in the reports to ‘the Kids’ — presumably the little fellows who had manned at least one of the craft at S-4 — whose origin was said to be Reticulum 4, the fourth planet from Zeta Reticulum 2… The two stars that comprise the Zeta Reticulum system are similar to our Sun (G2 type) and are approximately thirty-seven light years from our solar system, separated from each other by a distance of about 350 billion miles, and requiring over 100,000 years to orbit their common center of gravity. Both Zeta 1 and Zeta 2 are prime candidates for the search for life beyond earth, and both could well have a system of planets similar to our own.

It stated in the briefing papers that humankind is the product of periodic genetic ‘corrections’ by the aliens. Bob has difficulty with this statement, as he emphasized in his private interview with George Knapp.

“It’s easier to swallow things you can put your hands on and touch and then work with,” he said. “There’s no problem. But when you get a load of spiritual stuff and religion — you know, that we were made by progressive corrections in evolution and that sort of thing…it’s a tough thing to accept without hard-core proof. The only hard-core thing is that there is an extremely classified document dealing with religion, and it’s extremely thick. But why should there be any classified documents dealing with religion?”

Knapp pressed Lazar for further information.

“Oh, come on, that’s so weird…”

“I’m not asking you to say what you believe to be a fact; I’m asking you to say what you read in a report that is distributed at what may be the most top secret facility in the world.”

“It’s just so far out…”

“All right. Your objection has been noted. What does it say?”

Containers?

Alien and Earth

“That we’re ‘containers’. That’s supposedly how aliens look at us; that we are nothing but containers.”

“Containers of what?”

“Containers. Maybe containers of souls. You can come up with whatever theory you want. But we’re containers, and that’s how we’re mentioned in the documents; that religion was specifically created so we have some rules and regulations for the sole purpose of not damaging the containers.”

Supposedly, Jesus and two other spiritual leaders were genetically engineered, in the sense that “they were implanted in people on earth and their births were closely monitored”. Again, a similar claim was made (specifically about Jesus) by Richard Doty, in conversation with Linda Howe in 1983.

The idea is hardly new, and has been put forward by a number of writers. For some reason, it outrages many devout Christians. Perhaps they should take note of the many passages in the Bible which, although open to alternative interpretations, nevertheless suggest the possibility of an out-of-this-world origin for Jesus, for example: the angel Gabriel’s visit to Mary, informing her of an unusual conception; the star of Bethlehem which guided the Wise Men to the place of birth; the physical Ascension into “heaven”, with the two men standing by in “white apparel”; and Saul’s conversion on the road to Damascus, when Jesus apparently spoke to him from a “great light” in the sky.

In addition, one could adduce the extraordinary abilities attributed to Jesus, and the occasional cryptic statements in reference to his origin, such as the following, recorded in John’s Gospel: “You belong to this world here below, but I come from above. You are from this world, but I am not from this world.”

Is the idea really so far-fetched? Not according to Dr Barry Downing, for example, a theologian with a degree in physics, whose book, The Bible and Flying Saucers, traces the evidence for extraterrestrial liaison with mankind throughout biblical history…

“Well, I am telling the truth — I’ve tried to prove that,” Bob Lazar insists. “What’s going on up there could be the most important event in history. You’re talking about physical contact and proof from another system — another planet, another intelligence. That’s got to be the biggest event in history — period. And it’s real, and it’s there!”

Would You Like That In Cash?

bigstock-money-on-rope-236225

Money-Laundering

I’m going to blame my dreams again for this one. All last night, I had a dream about a tax avoidance/tax delay scheme which involves buying a bank draft for $10,000 before the end of the year and waiting until the new year to cash it again.

You might think that’s far-fetched but, believe me, it’s not. I witnessed just such a transaction being done at the North Shore Credit Union in 1984. To be fair, the purchaser of the draft probably only wished to defer income tax, but it showed me that there were some very simple ways to launder money. Some other ways are more convoluted.

My first encounter with a full-fledged attempt at illegal money-laundering happened when I was the acting Bank Accountant at the Bank of Nova Scotia in Niagara Falls in 1977. An international bank had sent a very large transfer of money to a customer of that branch. When contacted by me to let him know it had arrived, he baldly said the money wasn’t his and that we were to return it to the international bank from whence it had come. I probably wouldn’t have thought another thing about it except for the fact that he was Italian and the transfer may have come from a Mafia-based company. I reported it.

How It Works

aml-infographic-2

In the world of money-laundering, only corrupt politicians and unregistered agents of foreign governments seem to get away with it. No, not so anymore: ask Paul Manafort.

World terrorist organizations have been doing it for a hundred years or more. The tax man wants to put a stop to it, effectively shutting down their illegal operations, but no sooner do they act on insider tips, then a new scheme is set up. That’s why in TV shows and movies about anti-corruption agencies (and the usual spy suspects), the favourite quote is: follow the money.

But It’s Not Just Terrorists

Have you ever really wondered how the rich keep getting richer while the rest of us just languish in their dust?

Kickbacks: they’re more common than you think. I believe they’re called ‘sweetening the pot.’ In other parts of the world, corruption is rife. But we think that people in the West are better than that. How wrong we are…

Between October 1985 and June 1989, I worked for a building company, based in Ascot, Berkshire. As a cost of doing business, the owner would often request cheques of about $2,000 paid to cash. In truth, he could have been pocketing the funds, but then he would have paid income tax on his company withdrawals (unless he had sufficient equity)… What he was really doing with the money was greasing the wheels of industry by lining the pockets of council planners.

Conclusion

So, when I look at ‘successful’ entrepreneurs, I wonder, “Who did you steal from to make your millions?”

As I learned while working for a steel roofing subcontractor in the last half of 1990, the big construction companies hold back funds from the little guys, squeezing their little bottom lines to over-inflate their huge corporate profits. Behind the corporations? Shareholders who expect a good return on their investment.

Greed will defeat us all in the end. Why can’t we all share the wealth?

A Canary in a Coal Mine

Donald Trump demonstrates his tweeting skills in his office at Trump Tower in New York.

President Trump Tweets Today

Tweet, Tweet, Tweet-tweet, Tweet

OK. I know this has been the point that has bothered both Republicans and Democrats in recent years: a President who sounds off about current events and political personalities without the filter of a PR communications director.

But did you ever think that this might be a good thing? It provides a peek into his erratic thinking and his real concerns of the day. It gives his friends and enemies an advanced warning of what may be coming: ask Jeff Sessions…

Busiest Twitter Times

when-does-trump-tweet-hour-of-day-1.png__w1024

President Trump obviously gets up just before 6 am and spends the next few hours telling the world what he thinks. Then he goes into the Oval Office and does his day job, becoming POTUS again. Is that clear enough? A bit like separating “Church and State”.

Mistakes? What Mistakes?

trump_covfefe_tweet_feature

This screen shot was taken very early on May 30th 2017. The term ‘covfefe’ confused the world, until someone pointed out that he probably intended to type ‘coverage’.

As I said before, his tweets are unfiltered and unedited. Some words are capitalized (“for emphasis”) and ordinary finger slips and misspells remain. To me that is proof that they are from the “@realDonaldTrump” and not a fake meme.

Conclusion

The coal mine known as Washington DC is a toxic environment. The canary in the White House sings his ‘tweet’ song all day (and sometimes all night) long. It is annoyingly entertaining, but very vital for those around him. Even his enemies can clearly hear him.

But, if he stops, look out world!

Happy (Chem) Trails to You?

49656194_240094040036038_3805676809094168576_n

Stonehenge

This beautiful photograph was taken from a drone hovering above the heritage site. When I shared it on the Fountain International Facebook page, one person commented, writing “shame about the chemtrailed sky.” I hadn’t even noticed.

As that wasn’t the first time I’d seen a similar sentiment about a beautiful picture (the other one was by Julian Lennon, see below), it got me to thinking that perhaps some people have an issue with these trails left by airplanes.

48376408_10156494329141117_939371938193604608_n

According to David Icke…

Another constant form of mass poisoning is the chemical trails sprayed from aircraft into the sky all over the world. People in North America began to notice in the late 1990s how the sky was being crisscrossed by white streaks that appeared at first to be the contrails or condensation trails pouring from the back of aircraft; but it soon became clear that these were not contrails. Instead of dispersing very quickly as contrails do they remained for hours expanding and filling the sky and they became known as chemtrails. I have often watched aircraft systematically flying to and fro across the same area until a once clear blue sky was like a patchwork of white lines which expanded until the whole sky became like a cloudy day.

(Icke, David. The Perception Deception – Part Two (Kindle Locations 7664-7669). David Icke Books Limited. Kindle Edition.)

We keep wondering why ‘they’ are doing this to us, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out two different but connected scenarios:

  1. To eliminate those of us that are excess to requirements – the world is overpopulated and there doesn’t appear to be enough resources to sustain these numbers on Earth;
  2. To change the weather patterns – make hot areas colder, cold areas hotter and alter nature’s delicate balance. Snow in the Southern states? Sure, why not?

Ultimately, ‘they’ want to control the world, literally. The chemtrails are their weapon.

Conclusion

We are now so used to seeing these chemtrails in the sky, we don’t even think about them anymore. There seems to be no way to protect ourselves from them, either, so we’ve stopped fighting the ‘powers-that-be’ about them.

Maybe we ought to start fighting ‘them’ again.

My Great Aunt’s Diaries: 1949-1952

c58327d410b71a6

710 Coxwell Avenue, Toronto (second house from left)

A Look at Life in Toronto

Out of the blue, my second cousin, Norah, sent me transcripts of some diaries that her grandmother had written. I suspect she thought I’d be interested in the passages that featured my biological father, then known as Ewart.

Well, of course I was interested in those passages, but also the minutiae of life in the early 1950’s, in the city I was born, Toronto, Ontario.

The photo I have featured shows the last house lived in by (Rev) Jim and Sadie Miller (née Jackson). A recent real estate graph shows that the house, worth C$300,000 in 2000 is now worth C1.3 million. Sadie vacated the premises in 1950, after my great uncle died.

My Father

ewart (the model)

I know it’s cheeky to want to take a peek at my father’s life around the time I was born, but Sadie’s diaries didn’t reveal too much. (Nor were they intended to, since my father kept my existence hidden from the rest of his family.)

So, I read everything that Sadie had written, and took note of any comments she made about him. Now I know that he liked to visit his aunt and uncle frequently, mostly for the food, I suspect. (Sadie hinted at this with a comment in 1950 about Ewart finishing off some bakery goods. In another passage, her pithy point was ‘the same old Ewart’…)

The week before I was born, he popped round for an evening, and the week after my arrival, he brought two tickets to the Mendelssohn concert for them. He may have been in the choir.

Three months after I was born, he introduced his new ‘schoolteacher’ friend to Sadie: her name was Miss (Jean) Harding. She would prove to be his friend and car ride for the rest of his life whenever he visited Southern Ontario. Sadie liked her. (Jim had died six weeks before that meeting.)

The final entry in her diaries about Ewart was on November 11th, 1950, when she got a telephone call from him. He told her that he had moved North (an echo of what I had overheard as an infant…) and that he was recovering from a ‘ruptured appendix’.

In my young mind, I interpreted what I’d overheard as he’d died in North Toronto (my world in those days). Later, much later, I found out he had actually moved to Sudbury to start his life over, and grow up.

Toronto the Good

Sadie kept herself busy, especially after Jim died. She had a day job, although I’m not exactly sure what that entailed, and she would babysit in the evenings. On Saturdays she would clean her living space and do laundry; on Sundays she would (try to) attend church services regularly (morning or evening) and would take in whatever slide shows, lectures and art exhibits that were put on for the public.

I remember doing the same with my mother. In fact, here’s a photograph of me outside of the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM), dated March 1952:

chris mar 1952

Many times, on Sunday, Mom and I would take a streetcar and Sadie noted the many times she did, too, in order to fulfill her babysitting duties. But the thing that surprised me was the fact that she hitchhiked, too. You couldn’t do that now, at least not safely.

Weather, All Seasons

From the very first diary, Sadie would describe the weather, the highs and lows temperature-wise, and how many times she had to shovel snow. There were many storms, but she made note of one that badly affected Lakes Erie and Ontario in March 1952. I thought she was referring to Hurricane Hazel, but that wasn’t to hit until 1954. Looking up the storm on Google, I came across this newspaper report.

screenhunter_209-apr-28-22-32

Well, that’s proof she was paying attention, anyway.

Other Bits of History

Sadie noted the day that they heard on the radio that Labour had won a slim majority of just five seats in the February 1950 UK general election. Clement Attlee was to be their new Prime Minister.

But she missed the one thing I thought for sure she would comment about: the February 6th 1952 death of George VI. Her 1951 diary stopped at February 7th 1952, and her new (1952) diary started at March 1st. I had been hoping to get a first-hand report of this momentous occasion, but her thoughts must have been elsewhere.

Other Diary Entries

As you can imagine, Sadie wrote about her three daughters, their children and her visits with them. It should come as no surprise that it was sometimes very difficult to keep up with all the names. I found myself on several occasions going to the family tree to see who the people were and how they fit in together. It was a good reminder that I really have so much more to learn.

Sadie also wrote about her many travels, sometimes noting who she sat beside on the bus and even if she was able to sit at the front behind the bus driver. Her family was far-flung: Jean and her crew in Banff; Mary and her crew in Baie Comeau; Ruth, anywhere the wind blew, but essentially based in Montreal.

Some of her travels took her to American cities, such as New York, Washington, DC, and Philadelphia. Her treks westward always took the southern route around the Great Lakes until Winnipeg and then straight across the Prairies.

Those trips also noted great (and not so great) restaurants and hotels along the way, and she did the same with places to eat in Toronto (such as a favourite of mine, Fran’s Restaurant).

FransRESTAURANT-5000pxGIF

I feel like I’ve had a full immersion in the cultural history of the early 50’s, and now I’m going to pay my respects to the Great War by (hopefully) reading her dairies for a select few of those years. Wish me well!

Was the Queen’s Hat a Hint?

people-are-saying-the-queen-deliberately-wore-a-hat-designed-to-look-like-the-eu-flag.png

Or a Misunderstood Gesture?

In June of 2017, the Queen opened the UK Parliament with a speech about ‘a hard Brexit’ from the European Union. Her hat bore a striking resemblance to the EU flag, Everyone began speculating that she was somehow telling the world what her true feelings about leaving the EU were, perhaps as a rebuttable of the newspaper reports from the previous year, when it was reported that she supported Brexit.

After watching a week-long retrospective of the Queen on the CBC, I have come to a different conclusion: as she knew that her Queen’s Speech was about leaving the EU, she decided to wear an outfit that echoed that theme. It was only meant to be an homage.

China Space News: Moon Landing

pink-floyd-dark-side-of-moon-poster

Dark Side of the Moon

After all these years, we have a new space race, this time led by the Chinese.

Two questions: why this; and why now?

NASA backed off from sending anything to the Moon in the middle of the 1970’s. Did you ever wonder why?

The Hidden Reason?

Somewhere along the way, the agenda changed. If you were alive and aware during those years, you will remember how bad things were: gas shortages; race violence; Nixon as President; ecological concerns such as “global warming” and air pollution; and the escalation of nuclear proliferation. The ‘powers-that-be’ decided that an alternative had to be found: an alternative place to live.

The focus then became exploring other planets in our solar system (such as Mars and Jupiter) and finding other “Earth-like” planets in the Milky Way.

But this wasn’t for the benefit of the masses, but for the ‘Elite’ only.

Alien Contact?

Since 1947, UFOs have been flying in the skies over the United States. This has caused ‘flaps’ of fear. Then in 1977, Close Encounters of the Third Kind was released, which portrayed aliens in a more caring light. This was a hint that something basic had altered.

We have heard in recent years that there is a Secret Space Program, and that it has been running since the 70’s. But officially, there has been no confirmation from government sources. The closest we got was President Trump launching the US Space Force.

A Euphemism?

China landing on the dark side of the Moon brings up the Pink Floyd album of the same name. The title relates to Syd Barrett’s mental struggles and is an echo of the fact that the other side of the Moon is out of sight to Earth.

It makes me think that China has a hidden agenda, landing their spacecraft there.

But what is that hidden agenda?

Only those on the Dark Side of the Moon will know for sure.

The Best of Pals: Comedy Acts

stan-and-ollie-film-2019

Stan & Ollie

In advance of the new Laurel and Hardy biopic coming out this year, I should like to point out some other comedy pairs that have been embedded into our memories on TV.

Laurel & Hardy

Laurel-and-Hardy-laurel-and-hardy-30795259-1600-1283

Black and white movies on the goggle box (from the 1930’s and 1940’s)

Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton

head17_orig

The Honeymooners (1950’s)

Yogi Bear and Boo Boo

16

TV cartoon series (1960’s)

Holmes and Watson

holmes_and_watson-550x688

The latest movie incarnation of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson as a comedy act.

Roles Reversed

Sometimes, the comedy pairing has the smaller one being smart and the bigger one being dumb. But the effect is the same: humour.

Rocky and Bullwinkle

Rocky_and_Bullwinkle

More 1960’s cartoons.

Winnie the Pooh and Piglet

purepng.com-winnie-pooh-and-pigletwinnie-poohwinniepoohpooh-bearbearwinnie-the-poohteddy-bearcharacterbook-winnie-the-pooh-1926pooh-corner-1928winnie-pooh-and-piglet-17015286602710d1ea

Since the mid-1920’s.

Conclusion

The players may change, the characters may morph but the set-up stays the same: one larger man with a brighter intellect and his smaller pal with the dim-witted responses (and vice versa).

The fact that we have seen different versions of the same comedy duo over and over again means that art is imitating life and we love it. (The only exception is the Holmes & Watson fiasco, which everyone hates… maybe we don’t like our serious partnerships being made fun of.)

And the cartoon pals, Tom and Jerry, may be the template.

The Man Who Would Be King

4749-1402062973-kciiiencore900x1500

King Charles III

A short sequence repeated on The National last night highlighted a long-held belief that Prince Charles may never ascend the throne, although he has been preparing for the role of King since his birth.

Because the CBC has been repeating a 2017 documentary called simply “Elizabeth” the juxtaposition was startling.

Perhaps the irony of an anecdote about Charles on the day of his mother’s coronation in June 1953 puts the whole thing into perspective. It was reported by the Queen’s ladies-in-waiting that Elizabeth had removed her crown after returning to Buckingham Palace, saying that it was starting to give her a headache. While they had tea, Charles burst into the room and made a beeline for the crown. One of the ladies-in-waiting managed to get it out of his reach before he could get his little hands on it. That’s quite telling, isn’t it?

King William V?

A play (see above) has been produced about Charles ascending the throne and then causing a Constitutional crisis when he refuses to sign an act of parliament into law.

It is one of the enduring rumours that has been circulating in the United Kingdom since the mid-80’s: Charles would never succeed his mother. I suspect that the Prince of Wales and his alternative views have been looked on as highly worrisome by the ‘powers that be’. In fact, many Brits think Charles is a bit of a “crank”. Again, this may have come about because of the way the tabloids have depicted him. The ‘men on the street’ take the direction of their opinions from what the main stream media report. And Charles has never come off as being ‘normal’ since he divorced Diana, the Peoples’ Princess.

Most would prefer, it seems, to have Charles completely sidestepped and that the throne should go to his eldest son, William. That way, the crown would be in the hands of a new and fresh generation of royals.

Conclusion

Queen Elizabeth II will probably live to the same age as her mother, 101 years. This means that the issue of Charles’ ascension to the throne of Great Britain (United Kingdom) will be a few years off, yet. And it seems that she is preparing Charles now to assume some of her roles so that a smooth transition will occur after her death.

In the meantime, speculation will continue until that day, and the Man Who Would Be King will have to bide his time, doing what he has always done: being different.
