Just Like in the Movies: His Great Escape

Rédoine Faïd (May 10, 1972)

I was reading the GQ article about his July 1, 2018 escape from a prison in France this morning and decided that there must have been something in the air that day other than the helicopter.

And I was right! There are five inconjuncts, four of which form Yods pointing at Mars (himself) and Saturn (the prison system). The fifth inconjunct connects Venus and Uranus.

Sun Inconjunct Mars

You have a rather strong will, which may be difficult to control. This is because your way of doing something tends to interfere with what you want to gain by doing it. Your actions in some situations may surprise people by contradicting what they have learned about you as a person. Inside of yourself, you may even begin to feel that you can’t approve of the way you act, or you may feel that you can’t deal comfortably with the results of your actions. In other words, you get yourself into real jams.

Mars Inconjunct Ascendant

The difficulty with this aspect is to find a balance between getting what you want in life and getting along with others. More than most people, you will have to learn the necessity of compromising to get along with people, especially because you often seem more aggressive than you are. While you are young, the need to compromise may be frustrating, because youth is a time when your own needs seem especially urgent and demanding. At times you may feel that nothing is going your way, that you continually have to give in to others and put your own wishes aside. However, it is not really this bad. You do not actually have to compromise any more than anyone else, but you are more reluctant to do so.

Mercury Inconjunct Saturn

This aspect can have several different meanings. First of all, you may have hidden fears that are difficult to express, but they cause you to do things that others can’t understand. These may include fear of the dark or of certain places or people. Or this aspect can mean that you often feel depressed and sad for no apparent reason. You tend to see the serious side of life, and it weighs on you more than most people.

Saturn Inconjunct Midheaven

This aspect indicates that you very much need a positive relationship with your parents, especially your father. You should not be disciplined sternly unless you are given lots of love at the same time. Otherwise, giving and receiving love from others will be a great problem for the rest of your life. Unless you are truly supported by your friends and family, you will begin to feel lonely and isolated from others and inferior to them. Also you are likely to have very serious difficulties with authority figures, because you are afraid of how they will treat you, not expecting that anyone will ever give you the loving guidance you need. You will see all authorities only as potential threats to your freedom and as sources of pain and trouble.

Venus Inconjunct Uranus

You feel mixed up about whether you want to be close to others or be free. When you are really close to a loved one, you feel smothered and want to get away by yourself to do what you want. But when you are alone and free to do what you want, you miss your loved ones and want to be with them. It will take you several years to understand yourself enough so that you can strike a balance between these two needs, so be patient.

The movie this morning moves quickly. Investigators will later note that the prison staff seem completely stupefied. The descriptor employed by the ministry of justice in its subsequent audit is sidération, an archaic word that refers to the state of being “planet-struck.” Everyone at Réau is paralyzed. They aren’t even sure who is escaping.

GQ

Planet-struck! I don’t think there’s a better description of what happened at that precise moment. How did he know when was the right time to act? It must have been in the silence.

For this story, Faïd has agreed to a rare interview in which my questions, and his answers, are relayed via email by one of his relatives. In addition, he has shared with me an unpublished autobiographical account of his daring escapes, titled Spiral, in which he describes the steps it takes to mentally prepare himself for a jailbreak. “There’s a deathly silence in the cell,” he writes. “I can’t hear a thing anymore. If I’m breaking out this morning, it’s to leave that silence behind. I worked hard these past months to get my spirit as clear and concentrated as it needs to be to make it to the top on this day.”

Haiku (Redux)

cdsmiller17's avatarcdsmiller17

Haiku poetry is a style that originated in Japan. According to Wikipedia, it is typically characterized by three qualities:

  • The essence of haiku is “cutting” (kiru). This is often represented by the juxtaposition of two images or ideas and a kireji (“cutting word”) between them, a kind of verbal punctuation mark which signals the moment of separation and colors the manner in which the juxtaposed elements are related.
  • Traditional haiku consist of 17 on (also known as morae), in three phrases of 5, 7 and 5 on respectively.
  • A kigo (seasonal reference), usually drawn from a saijiki, an extensive but defined list of such words.

In my attempts to write Haiku, I chose (in the main) to highlight personal elements…

Your fantasy world

Clashes with reality

Like night with the sun.

Blind Lovers

Let’s cling together

In the night when blind lovers’

Spiritus Sanctus (Redux)

cdsmiller17's avatarcdsmiller17

In my series of sonnets called Spiritus Sanctus, I wrote several poems that would act as reminders of some spiritual truths I had absorbed over the years. For example, the following poem highlights Jesus` sayings on the cross.

Seven Last Words

The day that Jesus dies, he spoke his mind:

Hearing the crowd taunt and jeer, prayed, `Forgive`;

Even the thieves argued about their bind:

Consoling, gave one `Paradise` to live;

Remembering responsibilities,

Unto his mother, a son to `behold`.

Concerned with his body, now ill-at-ease

In the blinding heat, he `thirst` for the cold.

Forsaken, feeling utterly alone,

Inclined his head upward and cried out, `Why?`

Xylem for Zion, he paid, he atoned

In our stead, so he let his `spirit` fly.

Outwardly broken, his strength diminished,

Now that it’s over, it has…

It’s Amazing! But is It a Miracle?

Our Fridge Came Back to Life

We think it was last June when a power surge blew out the motherboard of our refrigerator. The front control panel went dark, and the interior light went out, never to work again…

We got a local technician to come and give us a quote, even though we were in lockdown at the time. He advised us not to get the motherboard replaced, due to the age of the fridge and the difficulty of getting the needed parts. And the price would have been prohibitive, as we had learned when it happened once before. The fridge, however, was maintaining its cold temperatures in the main part and the freezer below, so we left it alone.

Then, last weekend at about 3:45 am, we had a localized brownout. (If you turned on a light, it would glow but at a very reduced output.) It woke me up because suddenly there was a click that was repeatedly happening every few seconds. When I came into the kitchen to investigate, the sound was coming from the fridge. (It was the ice tray trap shutting.) I opened the fridge door and was surprised to see the interior light flickering in time to the trap door noise. Needless to say, I woke Susan up with the news. We pulled the fridge out and unplugged it to stop the sound. And then we went back to bed in the eerie quiet of a house not operating at full power.

Come 8:30 in the morning, the electricity was back on. I plugged the fridge back in, and it started up as it had done for the past 10 months. But no lights anywhere. Susan put in a call to the technician, and he couldn’t account for why there should have been an interior light working. OK, we thought, that’s strange. But never mind.

Later that evening, the ice tray trap started intermittently clicking again (every five minutes or so). We went to the fridge to check it out. Susan touched the front panel, and the lights came on briefly. What!?

Then Susan opened the fridge door and the interior light was on!

Remembering how to reset the front panel, she pressed and held the bottom left button for three seconds. The panel lit up! It was working again!

It might not qualify as a miracle, but we think it’s bloody marvelous…

It’s Been Almost Nine Months Since He Died Suddenly

Raymond Pierre Hebert (December 31, 1940 – August 3, 2020)

The only picture of Raymond on the internet

We were best frenemies, in the nicest possible way. Our Faith & Science group exchanges were legendary. He would always start out his discussions with me by saying, “I agree with every thing you say,” and then picking me up on any inconsistencies of my previous statement.

Toward the end of his life, he asked me to do his birth chart…

There is but one inconjunct:

Mercury Inconjunct Pluto

You have a rather complicated and sometimes tricky mind. You usually prefer to do things in roundabout and involved ways instead of being simple and direct.

On the positive side, this means that you enjoy solving puzzles, tracking down mysteries and finding out about hidden matters. At school you might do research in science. You have a natural ability to understand how people’s minds work, what makes them act as they do, and what they are thinking, which is quite amazing for someone of your age.

On the negative side, however, you might misuse this ability by trying to control people’s thoughts and words. Also you may love mysteries so much that you get involved in complicated plots and arrangements with your friends. You may enjoy working in secret and creating an air of mystery about yourself, but this could backfire and make others misunderstand you or even fear what you are doing. Otherwise they will probably suspect you, even if you are totally innocent. And if you aren’t, they will know it for certain.

On another level, this aspect can mean that at certain times in your life you will go through tremendous psychological changes. All your thought and opinions will change completely. These stages may seem difficult, but you will be much better off if you let go of the past and welcome the new ideas.

(And just to be fair to Raymond, I have this aspect, too…)

Pluto in the First House

You are a very intense person who takes almost everything seriously. If an activity isn’t important enough to warrant throwing your whole self into, you feel it isn’t worth doing. You tend to go to extremes, which may make other people uneasy. You have to understand that others are afraid of experiences that you find interesting.

You enjoy having power over people and being in a position to make changes. Sometimes you seem to work behind the scenes, in that other people can see what is happening, but they cannot see who is doing it. It is extremely important that you develop a strong sense of responsibility about using power, because you will probably always use it to some extent, and if you are not careful you can create problems in your life and the lives of those around you. For example, you may be a leader among your friends, but you must be sure that what happens is best for all of you. If it isn’t, you will probably be at least partly responsible.

Your life will not stand still, for you need to have changes to keep it interesting — not sudden explosive events, but slower, more gradual changes that will create clearly marked periods in your life.

Other people will either be drawn to you very strongly or will not like you at all. For this reason you will probably have a few strong friendships, and few if any casual ones.

Once a Teacher, Always a Teacher

When I wrote the post about reincarnation, with this sentiment in mind, I was thinking about Raymond. And it’s amazing that, when I compared Raymond’s birth chart with Rudolf Steiner’s, the connections were absolutely spot-on for several of the planets.

The connections are in the top half of Raymond’s chart: his Moon is conjunct Steiner’s Venus @ 18° Aquarius; his Jupiter is conjunct Steiner’s Mars @ 5° Taurus; and his Saturn is conjunct Steiner’s Pluto @ almost 8° Taurus. Both of these Taurus planets are opposite Steiner’s Ascendant @ 10° Virgo. Even his Uranus is within 2° of Steiner’s Part of Fortune in Taurus.

I also compared Raymond’s birth chart with Steiner’s death chart, but the connections weren’t as strong, which suggests that the energies were only from their birth charts, and therefore Raymond Hebert is NOT a reincarnation of Rudolf Steiner.

But the teacher aspect is obviously there. Steiner’s natal Jupiter/Midheaven conjunction is opposite Raymond’s natal Moon. To say he couldn’t help himself would be an understatement.

As always, ISALPFY.

Rest in Peace, sir!

To OCD or Not OCD, That is the Question

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder

I’m willing to bet that a lot of people think they suffer from this condition. The signs are obvious to others, but usually undetected by the person caught in the ‘circle from hell’.

The whole world has been thrown into the first dimension (above) with the pandemic, which has led some to slip into the second. The lack of toilet paper shows how a great many people fell into the fifth dimension. And all with good reason: they have been fed a steady diet of COVID-19 news which has made them afraid for their lives. Some have even had thoughts that somehow it is punishment from God, hence the third dimension. And some, in an effort to regain some semblance of order in their own lives resort to the fourth dimension of ‘control’.

But none of it works. That is why the actions must be repeated endlessly.

But only 1 person in 40 (or 2.5% of the population) has OCD. The rest of the people that think they have OCD, but don’t, just like things to look neater, which is why they ‘correct’ disorder where they can. The difference? Their actions don’t make them think obsessive thoughts.

There, is that straight in your mind, now?

Piercing the Veil: Seeing the “Man” Behind the Curtain

Full Moon in Scorpio (April 27, 2021)

Interesting thought: every year around this time, we get to see a full Scorpio moon in the night sky. Last night, at about 11:31 pm locally, the Moon was exactly opposite the Sun. Some astrologers see this as a time to stand up to the creeping lockstep of government control with regards to the pandemic and the draconian methods used to keep people from protesting. That’s one interpretation. But only by looking at the exact moment astrologically, can we see:

The quadruple T-square involving the Moon, the Sun/Mercury/Venus/Uranus conjunction, and Saturn does speak of the need to break free and express our objections to world-wide control.

But the planetary position of Neptune is what caught my eye: it is conjunct the Ascendant in Pisces…while being in a T-square with Mars and the Midheaven. The time seems to be at hand.

Neptune Conjunct Ascendant

You will spend a great deal of your life getting to know who you are and how you impress other people. Especially while you are young, but sometimes continuing well into adulthood, you will have a hard time understanding people’s attitudes toward you and your part in creating these attitudes.

Some of your problems stem from the fact that you look to others people’s reactions to find out who you are, when you should be looking inside yourself to find that out. Get in touch with your feelings about yourself instead of being confused. And don’t fall into the trap of simply feeling inadequate and unworthy. Those feelings are probably not justified, but you may think they are. Another source of difficulty is that this aspect signifies enormous sensitivity to people and situations around you. But unfortunately you get so much input from the environment that you find it difficult to make sense out of it. When you eventually sort it out, you will discover that you are quite psychic or at least intuitive.

Also learn to stand up for your own rights and not let others take advantage of you. You may feel that it is better to serve others than to be served, but don’t waste your efforts on people who are unworthy of being served.

There’s a fair way to go yet, so don’t give up the ‘fight’. We are all in this together.

When It Comes to Karmic Astrology:

The Elephant in the Room

Most of the astrologers that I know have either no interest in, nor understanding of, past life research, especially when it involves comparing birth and death charts of different individuals.

Why is that?

It’s not as if it has never been done before: Rudolf Steiner, for example, inspired a whole generation of astrologers to look at past lives. But that was at the beginning of the 20th century. It wasn’t until the late 70’s that astrology became ‘fashionable’ again. And since then, it has become the butt of late night talk show hosts, mainly due to the newspaper daily horoscopes. A couple of UK astrologers, Patric Walker and Jonathan Cainer took that basic look at our daily lives and elevated the format to a more spiritual interpretation. But reincarnation?

Have we all become too jaded to believe such a concept?

Or are we actually afraid of what we might find?

Even some Vedic (Hindu) astrologers that I know have no interest in it, and yet I would have thought that an Eastern version of astrology would embrace the whole Circle Art of A.T. Mann.

The scientific consensus is that astrology is a pseudoscience, and there is no evidence that astrologers are doing anything more than storytelling or playing confidence tricks

Wikipedia

I have done four years of research, now, and posted my findings here on these pages. It seems that individually people are amazed and grateful when I work on their past life history, but in general no one really cares (outside of a few WordPress followers: you know who you are).

Exactly…

Was He a Lover or a Fighter, or Both?

William IX – Duke of Aquitaine (1071 – 1127)

France in 1154 AD

I came across an article about the troubadours, yesterday. Today, I looked at the man who may have ‘invented’ the precursor to the sonnet, as the first Troubadour. While reading his story on Wikipedia, I think I may have finally found my true past life in the “High Middle Ages”.

The timing is slightly randomized. When I saw that his birth Ascendant might be close to my own, I tweaked the time slightly to see what the effect might be. (So, it’s not Gospel…)

The pivotal planet is Neptune @ 5° Gemini 18′. Let’s just call him a “mystical thinker”. The (double) Yod pointing at this planet is not affected by the time of day, so it’s real. And just so that we’re on the same page, here are the three inconjuncts in operation:

Sun Inconjunct Neptune

You are very sensitive to your environment and to the people around you. On one level of your being, you feel what is going on very acutely. Unfortunately your understanding often comes in terms that are very difficult to communicate to others, because their meaning is not clear in your own mind. Your greatest danger is in being exposed to negative people who are full of anger or depression or who act very harshly toward you and undermine your self-confidence. Your self-confidence has to be boosted at every conceivable opportunity, and it would be very destructive for you to be criticized sharply, unless the person has made it very clear that he or she loves you.

Jupiter Inconjunct Neptune

You are an idealist with very vivid dreams about how you want your life to be, and at certain times in your life you will follow those dreams with all your energy. But sometimes these idealistic dreams will let you down, because you are not concerned enough with what is real and possible. Your parents and other adults may pressure you to be more practical in your thinking, but you think they are just throwing cold water on your aspirations. Yet learning to handle the real world is a very important part of your development, because it is the only way you can avoid becoming bitter and disillusioned when your more impractical ideas have led you into disappointment. (The Crusades, anyone?)

Saturn Inconjunct Neptune

This aspect…can have a variety of effects, one of which may be difficulty in relating fantasy and imagination, on one hand, to reality, duty, obligation and work, on the other. Usually the reality, duty and work aspect of the combination is dominant, at least at first. Your imaginative side tends to be transformed into nervousness, fear and irrational anxieties. The most negative manifestation of this aspect is a feeling that you have to keep a tight lid on yourself and that if you look inside yourself too deeply, you will find only emptiness and disintegration. It is difficult for you to realize that this is not the truth about your inner self.

If you do not learn to confront your inner fears now, they may surface as chronic physical ailments, although that is not likely to be apparent early in life. If you can learn to release your creativity, you can avoid negative physical effects.

Pos de Chantar

Pos de chantar m’es pres talentz,
Farai un vers don sui dolenz:
Mais non serai obedienz,
En Peitau ni en Lemozi.

As the desire to sing takes hold of me,
I will make a song about my sorrow;
I will no longer be a servant of love
In Poitou nor in Limousin.

Qu’era m’en irai en eisil:
En gran paor, en grand peril,
En guerra laissarai mon fil,
E faran li mal siei vezi.

For now I will go into exile:
In great fear, in great peril,
In war, I will leave my son
And his people will harm him.

Lo departirs m’es aitan grieus
Del senhoratge de Peitieus!
En garda lais Folcon d’Angieus
Tota la terra e son cozi.

The departure from the realm
Of Poitiers is so difficult for me!
I leave Foucon of Angers in charge
Of all the land and of his cousin.

Si Folcos d’Angieus no.l socor,
E.l reis de cui ieu tenc m’onor,
Faran li mal tuit li pluzor,
Felon Gascon et Angevi.

If Foucon of Angers does not help him
And the king from whom I hold my realm,
Many people will bring him harm,
Treacherous Gascons and Angevins.

Si ben non es savis ni pros,
Cant ieu serai partiz de vos,
Vias l’auran tornat en jos,
Car lo veiran jov’ e mesqui.

If he is neither wise nor mighty
When I will have left you,
They will soon overthrow him
For they will see him young and weak.

Merce quier a mon compaignon
S’anc li fi tort qu’il m’o perdon;
Et ieu prec en Jesu del tron
Et en romans et en lati.

I seek mercy on my companion
If I have ever wronged him, may he pardon me,
And I pray to Jesus on the throne,
In French and in Latin.

De proeza e de joi fui,
Mais ara partem ambedui,
Et eu irai m’en a scellui
On tut peccador troban fi.

I have might and joy,
But now we all part,
And I go to the One
With whom all sinners find peace.

Mout ai estat cuendes e gais,
Mas Nostre Seigner no.l vol mais;
Ar non puesc plus soffrir lo fais,
Tant soi aprochatz de la fi.

I have been most jovial and joyful,
But our Lord wants that no more;
Now I can suffer this burden no longer
Since the end draws so near.

Tot ai guerpit quant amar sueill,
Cavalaria et orgueill;
E pos Dieu platz, tot o acueill,
E prec li que.m reteng’ am si.

I have left behind all that I once loved
Chivalry and pride;
And since it pleases God, I accept all that
And pray Him to retain me in His presence.

Toz mos amics prec a la mort
Que vengan tut e m onren fort,
Qu’eu ai avut joi e deport
Loing e pres et e mon aizi.

I pray all my friends, at my death
That they all come and give me great honor,
For I have known joy and pleasure
Far and near and in my realm.

Aissi guerpisc joi e deport
E vair e gris e sembeli.

Thus I renounce joy and pleasure
The brown, grey, and sable furs.

It’s All Starting to Make Sense, Finally

Troubadour

As you may recall, I like writing poetry; and the sonnet is my format of choice, for many reasons. But I’d never understood why, before yesterday. That’s when I learned that sonnets may have evolved from the musical poetry of the troubadour. A-ha.

(Crypto-)Cathar
According to this thesis, troubadour poetry is a reflection of Cathar religious doctrine. While the theory is supported by the traditional and near-universal account of the decline of the troubadours coinciding with the suppression of Catharism during the Albigensian Crusade (first half of the 13th century), support for it has come in waves. The explicitly Catholic meaning of many early troubadour works also works against the theory.

Wikipedia

It’s obvious, isn’t it? If your beliefs are under threat, you would need to find a way to share those beliefs with others, and what better way than in the form of entertainment. As we all know, and especially in the South of France, words can have several meanings. “Explicitly Catholic meaning” is the trick to hiding your ideas under the guise of something else, under the very gaze of the Inquisition. After all, who wants to be burned for spreading a heresy?

William IX – Duke of Aquitaine (October 22, 1071 – February 10, 1127)

William’s greatest legacy to history was not as a warrior but as a troubadour—a lyric poet employing the Romance vernacular language called Provençal or Occitan.

Wikipedia

I may have to further investigate this individual, who is the grandfather of Eleanor of Aquitaine, Henry II’s wife, and mother to Richard the Lionheart and King John.

So, watch this space…
