Hockey: Taken Seriously Here in Canada

The Richard Riot of March 17, 1955

I started watching the National Hockey League games in 1958, so I wouldn’t have directly known about this ‘uprising’ at the Montreal Forum. But I was well aware of who Maurice Richard was: at the time he was the highest scorer in the NHL, although he never achieved the scoring title even once. The fact that he was on track to do so in 1955 may have been partly behind the fans displeasure when he was suspended for hitting a linesman during the March 13th game against the Boston Bruins at the Boston Gardens. But that the suspension was for the rest of the season and the Stanley Cup playoffs was a punishment considered too harsh for the Canadiens best player, so the fans ‘protested’ at the very next game.

(The video shows a game between Detroit and Montreal from that era, but it wasn’t that particular game because Richard had already been suspended. The egg pelting of Clarence Campbell and the smoke bomb, followed by the rioting outside, are from that fateful night.)

Years later the ‘event’ would be seen as the opening chapter of the ‘Quiet Revolution’ that took place later in the 60’s in Quebec. Yes, hockey is taken seriously here in Canada.

Is This Why FB Broke Last Wednesday?

David Wilcock’s Live Q&A about Ascension

Everything happens for a reason, so they say. This live event was announced to be happening on March 13th. It didn’t get done because FB went off-line. Strange, that.

So for those who are interested in what took place on another platform, here’s the YouTube video in its entirety:

Public Opinion: Without Prejudice?

College Admissions Bribery Scandal

I waited a few days before adding my two cents’ worth, but this latest distraction from the United States has become a witch hunt of a different sort.

So far 50 people have been indicted in the scandal and the fallout continues to grow because the parent of a very competent applicant is now suing the colleges (and everyone else) because they were rejected. Now they know why: some parents did whatever it took to get their children admitted to those colleges.

They paid money to this man to make it happen. (He looks a little ‘shifty’ to me.)

How He Did It

89d21ace-403e-4b2e-b705-c79347072b17-AP_College_Admissions_Bribery

This picture tells the tale. Disguising the bribe as a charity donation, the parents would then declare it on their income tax returns. That’s the real crime: not paying your taxes…

Now, just about everyone on this money chain has lost their livelihoods, even the Hallmark queen, Lori Loughlin.

And all before the facts of the case have been proven in court.

In the world of entertainment, if you are guilty in the eyes of the public, your working life is over. Just ask Jussie Smollett.

The Ides of March: History Repeats Itself?

hqdefault

Trump as Emperor

Sometimes, things just fall into place: today being the Ides of March, the anniversary of the day Julius Caesar as assassinated in Rome in 44 BC brought the image of Trump as Caesar to my mind.

I have to admit that I had a dream about Donald Trump last night, although the content was more about using psychological tactics to work out what his enemies were up to.

This was triggered, no doubt, by Trump’s one word tweet, yesterday: Veto!

Putin: Julius Caesar Reincarnated?

Ceasar-Putin

While researching images this morning, I came across this heart-stopping one of Caesar and Putin. It had never crossed my mind before, but now it all starts to make sense.

To read the Reincarnation Research into the Trump-Putin relationship, click here. According to Kevin Ryerson’s spirit guide, Ahtun Re, both Trump and Putin were Roman Emperors:

Very much to my surprise, Ahtun Re told me that both Trump and Putin were Roman Emperors. Previously, Ahtun Re had affirmed that Donald Trump is the reincarnation of the Roman Emperor Nero. This made sense to me as both Nero and Trump have been characterized as being narcissistic individuals, who used their ability to manage major construction projects to enhance their impact on society. There is also a physical resemblance between Nero and Trump.

Trump: Nero Reincarnated?

Trump and Nero

Actually, this isn’t hard to equate: Nero fiddled while he had Rome burned; Trump held the US government to ransom for his border wall. Read about Nero here.

There is evidence of his popularity among the Roman commoners, especially in the eastern provinces of the Empire, where a popular legend arose that Nero had not died and would return. (Wikipedia)

This is probably why the numbers 666 were linked to Nero’s name.

Conclusion

We are in the Biblical “End Times”. These famous and infamous names from the distant past are back in our consciousness. And, it seems, there is some esoteric understanding as to why Trump is in thrall to Putin.

The Roman Empire wanted to conquer the world.

I think it has now…

Thinning a Bit on Top?

Hair Club can help…

It’s not nice to mock the afflicted, so my focus will be on the company offering ‘hope’ to those who are losing their hair.

Their ads appear every week night on Fox 29 Buffalo, sometime between 5 and 6 pm, during the repeats of Family Feud.

Hair and Scalp Analysis

hqdefault

I seem to be someone who can observe patterns in almost everything, so it’s no surprise to me to see something strange about this segment in all the most recent TV spots. It started out with the men’s portion. When the Hair Club employee puts the microscope up to the top of the man’s head, an image appears on the monitor in front of them. It always seemed that the hair pattern was sparser than it should have been. Alright, I thought, let’s keep an eye open for this part.

But it wasn’t until a Hair Club for Women was shown later that I spotted what was bothering me: instead of one shot of this analysis being carried out, there were two; and the image on the monitor was identical to each other AND to the one used in the men’s sequence! Oops…

CALL NOW!

The rule of three comes into play with all advertising. If you have a specific message, you need to repeat it three times for the viewer to retain it. That’s usually why, towards the end of a commercial, the announcer will say the telephone number three times.

But recent Hair Club ads have gone one step further: we are being firmly instructed to “call now!” several times. In fact, the final words lately are exactly that: CALL NOW!

Bald Lies?

Hair loss is a touchy point for everyone. My hairdresser in the UK, Julie Benham, used to tease me about my bald spot. She never showed me it, and when my hair was finished being styled, there was nothing missing, as far as I could see in the handheld mirror. But then, recently, my wife noted, while we were getting our hair cut, that there were times during the process that she could clearly see my scalp.

My full head of hair is a point of pride. If I felt insecure about it, I’m sure I would be a sucker for Hair Club’s individual solutions. But they never tell you how much it will cost, nor how long it will take to achieve results, and that makes me suspicious. Sometimes, the first 50 callers are promised $250. off their chosen solution, so we’re not talking about cheap, here. And a little research will yield some very ugly images of head equipment that look like medieval torture devices.

No thank you, very much…

And in conclusion…

Of all the talking heads in their TV ads, only one stands out. His voice sounds like Kenny Rogers’ and he has white hair. Perhaps, he is the best advertisement of what a great result looks like. Anyway, here he is:

o

But I still won’t ever CALL NOW!

A Fishing Tale Depends on the Angler

ice-fishing-photo-4

The Media Slant Determines the Angle

This started out as a dream about how media bias determines the stories we see every day. Then it developed into a specific instance where this might be evident: a fish story.

And I can hear the collective comment: who cares?

So, let me be clear: I am not an ice fisherman. I have never caught a fish in my life. The only reason for focusing on this topic is the usual news cycle that will come up in three days time: March 15th is the date fishing huts need to be removed from Lake Simcoe.

In my dream, there were three ways to tell the story:

Positively

Larry has been in his fishing hut for weeks on end, but hasn’t had a bite. He’s determined to persevere until the very last moment because he knows that there’s a fish with his name on it. Just before midnight on the very last day, he lands one. He’s ecstatic. Now he can remove the hut from the lake, knowing he’s succeeded in his quest.

Sympathetically

Larry’s packing up his fishing hut for the season. He’d been sitting patiently, waiting for a fish to bite. Finally, just before midnight, he managed to catch one. So his time hasn’t been wasted.

Negatively

The ice fishing season’s over for another year. Larry, a so-called veteran of the ice wars has only managed to catch one, and that was just before midnight on the last day. What a waste of time.

A Now For Something Completely Different

This is the real reason for the dream.

I saw a news story last night that discussed the use of shoebox satellites to map the whole world. The implication was that it would be very useful to keep track of the bleaching of the Australian Great Barrier Reef. Really?

I suspect it will be more useful in spying on everyone, everywhere.

Account Reconciliation as a Symbol

Reconcile-Accounts-copy

Creating Harmony

It came up as a dream sequence last night. In my role as bookkeeper, I was attempting to reconcile the differences between an accounting system bank balance and the bank statement. It’s something that I did thousands of times in my banking and accounting careers. Why it should come up in a dream, I have no idea, but I suspect the seeds of it were sown by discussion in the news recently of attempts at reconciliation between indigenous people and the government.

Between every party to life itself are differences as to what should happen for the benefit of all. But those differences are usually exploited to keep us from seeking unity and harmony.

My dream was suggesting that when we identify the items that are the same, what we have left are very few differences. These can be reconciled, and by posting ‘correcting’ entries in one set of books or the other, these differences would disappear. Amen to that.

Is This the World’s Most Hated Band?

qzrcau

Nickelback

(I chose their “Here and Now” album cover for my blog illustration because it features the steam clock in the Gastown district of downtown Vancouver.)

In the news recently is an item about a debate being conducted in the US Congress about Nickelback. What?!

The very fact that there needs to be a debate in a public forum about a Canadian group seems ludicrous.

And yet, this divisive subject has been heatedly debated in my own family. My son, Derek, hates them. And because they rose to prominence while I was living in England, I was unaware of the way Canadians felt about them.

I think they’re great, but I can’t say too much about them, lest I trigger an argument. So I quietly(?) listen to their songs on my iPod.

Here’s my favourite:

The Reasons?

Conclusion

Taste in music is a fairly subjective concept. In the long run, it comes down to what you like and what you don’t like. Since I’m not a ‘follower’, I make up my own mind. And I really don’t care if you disagree with me.

P.S. The best advice…

Pizzagate? In Canada?!

scheer pizzagate nose.

Scheer Claims He Didn’t Hear the Word “Pizzagate”

I’ve written about this fake news story before: way back in December 2016…

But the other night, it showed up again at a town hall meeting in a small town in Ontario as part of a question posed to Andrew Scheer about Justin Trudeau. Here’s the CBC news report:

The next day, Scheer was called out for not calling out the questioner. He claimed he hadn’t heard the question properly. It’s more likely he was just focused on scoring political points against Trudeau. Either that, or he had been totally unaware of the significance of that hashtag #pizzagate, until a reporter asked him specifically about it.

Is this a man the Canadian people can put their faith in? Again, you decide…
