Betty Shine: We All Shine On…

quote-there-is-no-such-thing-as-death-we-have-all-lived-before-and-we-are-all-going-to-experience-betty-shine-106-26-36

…like the moon and the stars and the sun

Three nights ago, I had a dream in which someone wanted to prove what I was really about. He asked me to meet with Betty Shine and pay her £10 for a reading. Then he would see me for himself.

Strange, I thought: I haven’t thought of Betty Shine for quite a long time, the last time being when I wrote about David Icke. I never had dealings with her during my time in England, but she was always ‘in the news’ in some form or another.

Turns out that Michael Bentine thought her gifts were genuine, too. So who am I to doubt her abilities?

The reason for the reading seems to be involved in whether I had anything ‘hidden’ that I needed to share. Well, thank you for asking, but I’d rather not, all the same.

The little quote above says it all. And you can see a series of YouTube videos here.

How to Solve an Enigma

71AybBHkHAL

Alan Turing: The Enigma

There are two versions of this same cover: the one shown above and the one where Benedict Cumberbatch turns and faces the camera, revealing his character. (Side note: Benedict Cumberbatch is a relative of Alan Turing.)

I’d heard of the ‘father of modern computing’ before seeing this film “The Imitation Game” but I never realized how tragic his life was. You see, Alan Turing was gay in a time when that was still illegal to be so in Britain.

I am now reading the book about his life and achievements and I wanted to share a couple of insights.

The Chart

TuringAlanMathisonWREJC1

Alan Mathison Turing was born when Pluto was conjunct both the Sun and Venus. This makes for a very ‘different’ personality. Here’s how my computer program describes the energy:

Sun Conjunct Pluto

Inwardly you are zealous and fanatical, though you may hide your personal desires and intentions, and the intensity of your feelings. You are driven by a deep inner sense of destiny and mission and an almost compulsive desire for personal recognition. You have an infatuation with power and are incredibly willful and stubbornly fixated on achieving greatness or being Somebody Special. You tend to worship heroes who have powerful personal magnetism and charisma, and often seek to emulate them. You have potential for tremendous good or tremendous evil.

Venus Conjunct Pluto

You have deep, compelling love feelings that seem irresistible and often irrational. Your love relationships are very passionate and intense, and you experience both agony and ecstasy in love. You are always changed in a deep, fundamental way by your love experiences, though this may come about through painful and difficult confrontations or separations. You are something of an emotional fanatic about things you care about.

The “Eccentric”

alan_turing-750x563

There is no doubt this man had a genius of mathematics. But he was also a non-conformist to the nth degree. To understand why, we must return to an aspect on his birth chart. This text comes from Robert Hand’s Planets in Youth:

Sun Inconjunct Uranus

There is a side of your personality that is very restless and impatient with rules, even when you know they are for your own good. You want very much to go your own way and do your own thing, even when you aren’t entirely sure that it is the right direction for you. So you rebel in subtle ways by having sudden fits of obstinacy and moods of feeling very contrary, especially to your parents or other authority figures.

Uranus in the Tenth House

You are a very restless person who wants to do everything in your own way. Because you do not like being told what to do, you may have trouble getting along with authority figures such as parents, teachers and other officials. But your aims are not destructive. You just need freedom to find your own path, because that is the only way you can be really successful. If you try to take the same path that everyone else does, your life will be full of disruptions and instability, and you will feel unfulfilled.

Later, in your career, you should try to find your own way of doing your job, your own unorthodox approach. If other indications in the chart concur, this placement may favor work in a technical or scientific field[,] in astrology, social reform or any other field that involves change through originality and insight. You will always be upsetting to people who cannot bear to see change, but those who appreciate inventiveness and individuality will recognize your ability. Just learn to have enough discipline so that you can follow your own path, because without it you will simply dart from one activity to another without making any impact.

This is confirmed by his Rising sign, Gemini.

Uranus Conjunct Midheaven

People should be prepared to encounter in you an extreme individualist. Even while you are very young, you insist on doing everything your own way, and you strongly resist any pressures to conform. In fact the best way to ensure that you will not do something is to try to force you to do it. You are a rebel, and the established ways of living will not attract you particularly.

On the other hand you can be very creative with this aspect, because you have much originality and can see life in ways that others are blind to. You may be very inventive; in fact, this placement is characteristic of people who make a career in scientific or technological invention.

Conclusion

With the help of astrology, this enigma of a man is no longer misunderstood.

Like the Colossus he built to break the Enigma codes during World War II, he had to stand tall and hold his ground against his military masters, in order to find the means to defeat Hitler and the German war machine.

We are truly grateful for his short (42 year) sojourn here on earth.

First Ladies of the 20th and 21st Century

It struck me the other day that these two women exemplify what one could call ‘classy’. And the affection felt by the public for each of them is across the board.

It must be the pearls.

Is Smiley (Somewhat) Based on Intrepid?

When asked who he based George Smiley‘s character on, John le Carré states that he is an amalgam of several people. And for a long time, I accepted that response on face value. Now I’m beginning to wonder…

Operation Jubilee: Raid on Dieppe

g1215

A Canadian Disaster/An Allied Success

During World War II there was a ‘secret war’ going on, too. This particular battle was intended to test German defences in anticipation of Operation Overload (what we call D-Day). In reality, those in control knew that the invasion would never succeed, but the whole point was to discover and remove German radar equipment.

The Canadians who lost their lives that day were necessary sacrifices for the greater good.

The Chart

JubileeOperationWREJC1

I have timed the chart for the moment that the JUBILEE commanders sent out their message to the troops scattered across southeastern England:

“The show is on — Now!“

Here’s a slide that explains why.

The+Scene+is+Set+Hitler+and+the+Nazi%u2019s+are+extremely+successful+by+1942+and+control+most+of+Europe.

As I reviewed the chart, I noticed that Saturn and Uranus are again conjunct (as they were on William Stephenson’s birth chart). Only now they are in a different sign, Gemini. Talk about being in two minds: one side wants to take a leap of faith; the other side wants to be conservative.

But the rest of the chart looks like it’s “bottom heavy” with almost all of the planets in the 4th through 6th Houses. If Astrology had been brought into the decision making, I doubt if the Allies would have changed their minds. It had to be done. “Full speed ahead, and damn the torpedoes…”

The Map

mapDetail2

While the Canadian troops were being gunned down in the centre of the conflict, commando units (Orange and Yellow, above) were wrecking havoc on radar installations.

The Germans didn’t see them coming. Such is the nature of war. Out of 4,963 Canadians who fought on the beaches, 3,367 were casualties.

Conclusion

(From “A Man Called Intrepid”):

The over-all aim of JUBILEE had been, as Churchill later proposed to tell Parliament, “to deceive the enemy.” The Prime Minister’s statement was never made public, because the deception kept on working; by the end of 1942, Hitler held at least thirty-three German divisions along the Atlantic wall to protect primarily the small ports in the Calais-Boulogne area, in the belief that it was here the British intended to strike again. The statement, finally made to a secret session in Parliament, was conveyed through BSC to the President: “The attack which will be made in due course across the Channel or the North Sea requires an immense degree of preparation, vast numbers of special landing-craft and a great army trained, division by division, in amphibious warfare… It would have been most improvident of us to attempt such an enterprise before all our preparations were ready… A joint communiqué spoke of a Second Front in Europe in 1942 [because] it was of the utmost consequence to Russia that the enemy should believe we were so prepared and so resolved.”

So, world, you can thank almost 5,000 Canadians for ultimately defeating Hitler.

You’re welcome.

Intrepid

A Man Called Intrepid

A Man Called Intrepid

I read this book years and years ago. I bought it recently, again, in order to share it with one of our grandchildren. The story sounds fantastic, and some of the details may have been fabricated as part of the cover for activities before and during World War II.

Whatever the ‘truth’ may be, this Canadian stands head and shoulders above others in the Spy Game.

Meet William Stephenson

StephensonWilliamWREJC1

No one knows for sure what time of day Mr Stephenson was born. In fact, there are conflicting details as to even the day he was born.

My ‘job’ as an Astrologer is to dig deeper into his history in order to discover what the details really are.

Officially (as in, according to Manitoba birth records), William Samuel Stephenson was born on 23 January 1897. His attestation papers (when he joined the armed forces on 12 January 1916) suggest that his 20th birthday was the day before (i.e. 11 January 1896). That might have been tactical on his part (as he may have wanted to have a ‘mature’ enlistment), but it does suggest that even at that tender age, he wasn’t above lying to achieve an ambition.

The chart rectification was a little bit trickier in that we know very little about him after 1930, because whatever history he had achieved by that time needed to be eradicated in order to allow him anonymity.

OTD-Feb5

So I have focused on two events from his younger years: his loss of family (i.e. mother) at an early age, and his falling in love and marrying by age 27. Those events are symbolized by the Moon and Venus in his chart.

By aligning those two events as I have, his birth time will (most likely) be 8:30 pm.

What that does is make his Jupiter conjunct the Ascendant, but still in the 12th House, and it brings the Mars/Neptune/Pluto conjunction into his 10th House. That made him the Perfect Spy: he had a strong moral sense, but shunned the limelight.

Check his chart analysis here.

Conclusion

It is not my intention to re-write history, but I thought you, as the reader, might appreciate a hint (or several) from his birth chart.

If nothing else, we can be glad that the inspiration for Ian Fleming’s James Bond actually helped to save the world from domination by Adolf Hitler.

Even Fleming’s hero couldn’t attest to that.

Rest in Peace.

God: New Discussion Required

y450-293

What We Talk About When We Talk About God

Victoria, from our Faith and Science group, passed out some copies of this book which she bought at Dollarama. That was slightly more than two weeks ago. I’ve been reading it ever since.

She never said why she was sharing this book with us, but I suspect it had to do with the current book we’re studying: The New Revelations by Neale Donald Walsch. Almost immediately, we got bogged down in a discussion about who Walsch was claiming to be having a ‘conversation’ with.

Whether it’s God, the Holy Spirit, Jesus Christ, or Walsch’s higher being, no one can say for certain. Even Walsch may not really know.

Meet Rob Bell

Rob-Bell-ap3

(From the flyleaf:) Rob Bell is a bestselling author and international teacher and speaker. His books include the New York Times bestsellers Love Wins, Velvet Elvis, Sex God, Jesus Wants to Save Christians, Drops Like Stars, and the forthcoming The Zimzum of Love with his wife, Kristen Bell. In 2011, he was named one of TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people. He and Kristen have three children. Visit the author online at www.robbel.com.

“The truth is, we have a problem with God. It’s not just a problem of definition — what is it we’re talking about when we talk about God? — and it’s not just the increasing likelihood that two people discussing God are in fact talking about two extraordinarily different realities while using the exact same word.

“This problem with God goes much, much deeper. I’ve written this book about that word, then, because there’s a growing sense among a growing number of people that when it comes to God, we’re at the end of one era and the start of another, an entire mode of understanding and talking about God is dying as something new is being birthed.”

New York Times bestselling author Rob Bell does for the concept of God what he did for heaven and hell in his book Love Wins: he shows how traditional ideas have grown stale and dysfunctional while pointing the way for how we can return vitality and vibrancy to our lives of faith today.

Old Testament vs New Testament

image

It is one of the most fascinating of contrasts: Old vs New.

Rob Bell tackles this head-on by explaining that God is always trying to meet us where we are and then leading us forward to what we can become.

When we talk about God, we’re talking about that sense you have — however stifled, faint, or repressed it is — that hope is real, that things are headed somewhere, and that that somewhere is good.

When I read this book right after Hal Lindsey’s Satan is Alive and Well on Planet Earth, I felt peace come over me, again. I felt God’s grace, again.

The difference between their two styles of writing is that one was trying to warn us about the Devil, the other is embracing everything as being according to God’s Plan. The Old vs New again.

Conclusion

I am not going to bang on about what Bell wrote in this treasure of a book. The more important thing is that it brings us a way to understand what the whole point of God actually is.

His stories are heart-felt, his wisdom is evident, and his tone is gentle.

I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to renew their faith. It certainly did mine.
