It’s like living another day, to be able to tell the truth about a hard-found realization.
Our concept of angels is tinged with a bit of the demonic. This is why I personally do not like channeling. In truth, no matter how scrupulous the medium is, the process is fraught with potential fraud.
Enochian is known as the language of the Angels inspired from the work of Dr John Dee, who lived from 1527 to 1608. During an intense and fascinating seven year period he worked with a psychic known as Edward Kelley. Together they created detailed diaries of their work which still exists today in the British and Bodlean Museums in the UK.
But the fraud may not be on the human side of the transaction: it may be entirely on the ‘other’ side. When we were children growing up, we were warned to stay away from the Ouija board. I wonder how many children heeded that advice. Probably very few.
And, as we have seen in other transactions with our ‘modern’ Space Brothers, tests are undertaken to see how gullible we really are. Mostly we fail them, due to egotism.
That happened to Dee and Kelley, too.
Kelley revealed to Dee that the angels (namely a spirit “Madimi”) had ordered them to share everything they had, including their wives. Dee, anguished by the “order” of the angels, subsequently broke off the spiritual conferences. He did, however, share his wife. This “cross-matching” occurred on 22 May 1587 and is noted in John Dee’s diary: “May 22nd, Mistris Kelly received the sacrament, and to me and my wife gave her hand in charity; and we rushed not from her.” Nine months later, on 28 February, Dee’s wife Jane gave birth to a son, Theodorus Trebonianus Dee. Although there may have been speculation among the families that the child was actually Kelley’s, he was raised as Dee’s son (references to the child’s communion are present in Dee’s diary); the “cross-matching” incident remained a secret (as did many of their activities) until after the post-mortem publication of Dee’s diaries; there was no controversy at the time
Edward Kelley, knowingly or unknowingly, brought about the demise of his working relationship with John Dee, by divulging, and agreeing to, this ‘angelic’ instruction.
The ‘test’ was intended to stop their work, and it succeeded.
They say he suffered from a childhood illness that left him infirm (and famously portrayed with a stammer by Derek Jacobi in the “I, Claudius” TV series). It may have been what saved him from being slaughtered along with Caligula. However, infirm or not, he helped to restore some of the Republican ideals after he was made Emperor.
This chart is randomized, and yet there are two inconjuncts, one dependent on the timing, the other not.
Jupiter Inconjunct Midheaven
This aspect can mean that you have mixed feelings toward adults and persons in authority over you. Although you know that they have your best interests at heart and that they want you to succeed at your own objectives, it often seems as if their demands are keeping you from doing what you want. When you want to go off and have fun, for example, you are told to finish your work first. At times you want to break free of this restricting influence and go off by yourself.
Later in life, you will enter a critical period when your need for personal satisfaction and freedom force you to change jobs or even careers. When you have learned more about the world, you will understand how to make changes intelligently, but now you should discipline your Jupiterian drive for freedom and learn what you need to know to take over your own destiny. You should learn as much as possible about any subject or skill that will make you more aware of the larger world. Travel or foreign study would be beneficial, if that is possible. The more you know about how you fit into the larger scheme of life, the easier it will be to make the right decision when you have to change to a more rewarding and personally satisfying course.
Moon Inconjunct Saturn
This aspect usually means that your need for emotional security conflicts with your need to live with the world’s demands. Each of us needs to be accepted and loved for what we are, in order to have enough self-confidence to deal with the world. But we also have to learn to live with our own life situations in order to survive. In other words, we have to realize that we can’t have everything we want. With this aspect, these two needs are working against each other. Probably you will satisfy one of them at the expense of the other.
If you are able to balance the two (Moon and Saturn), this aspect can have a positive effect. You will be able to keep a lid on your feelings and control yourself in difficult situations, but at the same time feel and express your emotions when you should.
(Moon and Saturn aspects can create physical difficulties, such as stammering.)
Like other family members in the past, there were rumours after Claudius’ death that his wife (or other close staff) poisoned him. (There seemed to be a lot of that about.)
This chart is rectified to an early morning hour. I chose 3 am because he may have been unwell after dinner, and then recovered, and then re-poisoned in the night.
The consensus of ancient historians was that Claudius was murdered by poison—possibly contained in mushrooms or on a feather—and died in the early hours of 13 October 54.
Nearly all implicate his final and powerful wife, Agrippina, as the instigator. Agrippina and Claudius had become more combative in the months leading up to his death. This carried on to the point where Claudius openly lamented his bad wives, and began to comment on Britannicus’ approaching manhood with an eye towards restoring his status within the imperial family. Agrippina had motive in ensuring the succession of Nero before Britannicus could gain power.
Wikipedia
The ‘death’ chart shows an interesting combination of aspects, all pointing to Venus (his ‘wife’). Because Venus is conjunct the Sun, the author(ess) of this event must surely be Agrippina. It looks like I may be needing to look at the women in the Emperors’ lives…
Today, in history, Caligula was assassinated. How’s that for having a timely post?
As we saw in an earlier post, Caligula (real name Gaius Caesar Augustus Germanicus) was a union of several streams of historical Roman family lines. He was the third Emperor, after Augustus and Tiberius. He may also have done some despicable things.
The timing of his birth chart is randomized, and yet there is one inconjunct.
Moon Inconjunct Neptune
This aspect indicates that you are very sensitive and that you pick up feelings from the people around you very easily. The danger is that many of these feelings will be difficult to cope with; they may make you afraid of the world and reluctant to go out into it, as you must do when you are older. As a result, you prefer to be alone with your thoughts and let your fancies wander wherever they want to go. When you are older, this may help you use your imagination very creatively, but it won’t help you work out your everyday problems. You must learn to stand on your own and not depend on others. You also have to learn that you are worth as much as anyone else, for you may tend to withdraw when someone acts aggressive. But the adults who help you learn these lessons must be gentle and understanding. Otherwise you will shrink back into yourself. Above all, you must not be made to feel incompetent or inadequate, or you will think of yourself as a loser all your life.
People with this aspect often hide their real feelings and make sacrifices for others that they do not really want to make. Then they resent the person who asked for the sacrifice. You must learn to tell people how you really feel; if you do not, you have only yourself to blame for what happens. You must learn to accept that you are responsible for your own life. Do not act as if you are the victim of strong forces that you can’t control, because you can control them.
(This could also be the reason for the insanity that ensued after the first six months of his tenure as Emperor.)
The Mars at age 27 could represent his assassination by three of his Praetorian Guard.
Those three are represented by Mercury, Jupiter and Neptune @ 12-15 degrees Aquarius in the ‘death’ chart. The Senate hoped to return Rome to a Republic.
Other Praetorium Guards wanted to keep the imperial rule, and made Claudius Emperor, almost immediately. The Senators were not pleased.
Drusus Julius Caesar (October 7, 13 BC – September 14, 23 AD)
Retrato de JULIO CÉSAR DRUSO, llamado DRUSO EL MENOR. Siglo I d.C. Mármol. En el Museo del Prado (Madrid, España). Procedente de la Colección Real.
A good friend of mine spontaneously sent me a sketch (on May 11, 2016) that had been drawn by a women who assisted him in a past life regression.
This regression took place four years before he opened up about it in 2016. In his regression he spoke about a general named Crucius, but when he was asked what his own name was, he was loathe to say it, so he said he was Nero instead. Well, now I know why.
He was born at Rome to a prominent branch of the gens Claudia, the son of Tiberius and his first wife, Vipsania Agrippina. His name at birth was Nero Claudius Drusus after his paternal uncle, Drusus the Elder. In AD 4, he assumed the name Julius Caesar following his father’s adoption into the Julii by Augustus, and became Drusus Julius Caesar
The only way I found this name was working through most of the Roman family tree from Gaius Julius Caesar in the beginning to Nero at the end. Drusus was right in the middle, wouldn’t you know. But it was his death by the hands of his wife, Livilla, and her lover, Sejanus that finally helped me to zero in this individual. And just for added pleasure,
Drusus first entered politics with the office of quaestor in AD 10. His political career mirrored that of Germanicus, and he assumed all his offices at the same age as him. Following the model of Augustus, it was intended that the two would rule together. They were both popular, and many dedications have been found in their honor across Roman Italy. Cassius Dio calls him “Castor” in his Roman History, likening Drusus and Germanicus to the twins, Castor and Pollux, of Roman mythology.
Wikipedia
I’d even researched and written about the founding of Rome in my work here. No stone was left unturned. But to demonstrate how difficult the search was, take a look at this:
Which reminds me, I never did look at Caligula, nor Claudius. Oh well, maybe someday.
This is a rectified chart, highlighting Drusus’ death by nefarious means at age 35 (Mars and Neptune at 21 degrees Libra). And that brings to light one inconjunct.
Venus Inconjunct Ascendant
You often feel that you haven’t any right to ask much of those whom you love. You feel that you must do favors for them instead of asking for their help. For you, love is an act of service, not self-gratification. Also, through relationships with others, you try to learn more about your own and other people’s inner workings. For this reason your relationships are more deep and profound than most people’s. But they are somewhat difficult, too. Your close friends and loved ones discover that you are quite different in a close relationship than you appear at first. It is not that you are dishonest, but that you show a side of yourself to your friends that you usually keep hidden, often because you are not entirely confident in that role. You may feel unsure that others will like you or accept your affection. This is one reason why you express your love by doing nice things for people. You are trying to win them over.
However, you should realize that others will respect you if you stand up for yourself and ask for a reasonable return in a relationship. If you constantly seem to be apologizing for who and what you are, people begin to wonder if they have overlooked something that is wrong with you, and they begin to lose confidence in you. Thus you may bring about the criticism that you are afraid of. You are as good and as worthy of being loved as anyone. Be yourself with others, and many people will love you.
Amen.
(And just to see where everyone fits into this family, check Caligula’s family tree.)
Drusus was Caligula’s paternal grandfather and Mark Antony was Caligula’s great-grandfather on his paternal grandmother’s side. Even Augustus gets in on the act as Caligula’s maternal great-grandfather. It is a small world after all.
Charlotte Brontë (April 21, 1816 – March 31, 1855)
I’m finally reading “Manderley Forever” the story of Daphne du Maurier’s life. In it, I’m beginning to get an inkling that the Brontë sisters had more of an influence on Daphne than she’d like to admit. I compared her birth chart with both Emily’s and Charlotte‘s. Guess which one is most like her? (I suppose the subtitle gives it away…)
As this chart was already on my Kepler 7.0 program, I have not changed a thing. And yet, there are two inconjuncts, so we have something to dig into about Charlotte’s life.
Mercury Inconjunct Ascendant
You are likely to have some problems, but not serious ones, in communicating with others. The problem is that people’s first impression of you may not fit in with what you say or your manner of thinking and speaking. People tend to hear what they expect to hear, and they may not listen to you as carefully as they should. So you will have to be as clear as possible and insist that others listen to what you are really saying. If others do not understand you, it is up to you to set them straight.
Venus Inconjunct Jupiter
This can be a positive aspect if you learn to control some of its negative possibilities. You are likely to lack energy and to be rather passive. You may wit for opportunities to come to you, rather than go after them. You may not have enough energy to pursue your ambitions, or you may not have much ambition. Or you may love your comfort so much that you are unwilling to make any effort or put up with any pain that could help you grow and develop. However, if there are any indications of energy in your chart, they should overcome the passivity.
One the plus side, you need love and affection, and you can usually be very warm and affectionate as well. However, it is very important that you choose your close friends carefully, because you may attract people who are difficult to get along with, who order you around or act as if they are better than you. Avoid such people, for they will do you no good.
Jane Eyre (October 18, 1847)
The novel is a first-person narrative from the perspective of the title character. The novel’s setting is somewhere in the north of England, late in the reign of George III (1760–1820). It goes through five distinct stages: Jane’s childhood at Gateshead Hall, where she is emotionally and physically abused by her aunt and cousins; her education at Lowood School, where she gains friends and role models but suffers privations and oppression; her time as governess at Thornfield Hall, where she falls in love with her mysterious employer, Edward Fairfax Rochester; her time in the Moor House, during which her earnest but cold clergyman cousin, St. John Rivers, proposes to her; and ultimately her reunion with, and marriage to, her beloved Rochester. Throughout these sections, the novel provides perspectives on a number of important social issues and ideas, many of which are critical of the status quo.
Now, it is obvious, at least to me, that these two novels are not alike, but over the years fans and critics of Daphne’s novel have made comparisons between Jane Eyre and Rebecca, mostly, about the men that are at the heart of the stories. With two books about 90 years apart, this can be a tricky endeavour. However, if the one author is the reincarnation of the other, the underlying theme is resolved. It is just an updating of one literary form with another.
To me, the obvious link between these two birth charts is the North Node/South Node axis from Charlotte’s chart is on the Descendant/Ascendant line in Daphne’s chart. And by reciprocal arrangement, Daphne’s North Node is conjunct her 9th House cusp, a sure and certain ‘proof’ of reincarnation. Other links are very direct: Daphne’s Saturn is conjunct Charlotte’s Pluto; Charlotte’s Midheaven is conjunct Daphne’s Moon; and Charlotte’s Pluto is conjunct Daphne’s Ascendant.
I could go on and on, but I’ve made my point, don’t you think?
After writing about this subject matter for quite a number of years, it’s a relief that there now is a series on Netflix which goes into the permutations and combinations of explorations into what happens after death.
No.

Wikipedia listing of episodes
Any part of this 6 episode series will bring you ‘proof’ of the continuation of life, but it’s mostly anecdotal. Scientifically, consciousness beyond the body is difficult to prove. Some people need more than just a feeling. When it happens to you, you will know.
The Mediums episodes were interesting, to say the least, because this is how most people get help with contacting those who are on ‘the other side’ of life. The problem is that they are relying on someone else to be the intermediary and that can result in deception, conscious or unconscious. Critics of the process (and I am one of them) have a resistance to ‘cold readings’ (see “Mrs Green, Medium”) but with the advent of the internet, ‘hot readings’ can be the result of previous researching of social media. And ‘physical’ manifestations (of ectoplasm and control entities) coming through a medium have always been uncomfortable for me to witness, especially now that we’ve moved beyond needing that kind of physical ‘proof’. Watching a seance is so late-1800’s.
The Reincarnation episode was a bit more spectacular in that the children involved were under six years of age when they spontaneously began to talk about their former lives. A couple of them actually suffered from night terrors while still under three. The imprint of their former lives was actually caused by the trauma of being murdered in one case and dying after his airplane went down during WWII in the other. The two older boys have grown into young men, and, as you might expect, their past lives have faded into insignificance now. But it was interesting to see how their families had to adjust to having a stranger’s life coming into their ‘safe’ world through their children.
Finally, I want to share the Cardinal moment at the beginning of fourth episode.
This may be the original mobile phone video of the event, as shown in the program. What made it significant was that this bird is not native to Southern California where this took place. The women had asked for a sign of her continued existence (before she passed) from their now dead relative, and that sign was a Cardinal. This particular bird may have been stunned after hitting their house, and was quite docile while in their hands. But he didn’t seem in any hurry to leave, and that was the surprise. Finally they placed him on the branch of a tree, and finally, after a few moments, he flew away.
But they had received their ‘proof’ of life after death.
This is a short post about what the significance this placement has to the individual.
The Part of Fortune symbolizes that place in the horoscope through which the Sun, Moon, and Ascendant are in the best harmonic relationship to each other and are easily expressed to the greatest advantage for the individual.
Karmic Astrology III: Joy and the Part of Fortune (by Martin Schulman)
Literally, if the astrologer is trying to do this manually, by moving the Sun to the Ascendant, the new position of the Moon in relationship to the Sun would mark the Part of Fortune in that chart. It sounds complicated, but it’s not.
One member of my family has the Part of Fortune in the same place as her partner. (But, just to be aware of how variable it can be, the House placement could be, as it is with them, in two different Houses: she has the PoF in the 1st House; his is in the 10th.)
Here the individual experiences his greatest happiness by flowing with the energies of awareness and enlightenment. Unfettered by the bonds set by society, unlimited by the confines of predictable expectation, he is able to experience all that exists outside of the limits of established society. He seeks to know all — about man, the world, the universe. He wants to know how so many apparently different aspects of life manage to fit together.
The objective of the Aquarius Part of Fortune is a sense of non-containment. His happiness comes from understanding that things can be different, without any one thing being better or worse than another. It is through this attitude that he is able to stay clear of the consequences of making judgements. By nature he is fair and unbiased. From this fair treatment of the world he experiences all of the joy associated with freedom. Because he is detached and does not become overly involved in the personal principles of others, the world allows him the freedom to explore his own self-awakening. He never has to follow the path of others. The direction of his compass is always set by new ideas that stimulate inventiveness and originality of outlook. He often seeks solitude so that he can withdraw from the demands of traditional society, for his joy is not based on the laws or restrictions of men, but on the impulse of the forces of the cosmos which draw man to his highest abilities. He seeks to live without plan. From the absence of any apparent pattern, rhyme or reason to his life there grows a very uncommon sense of life and living. It is from this that he derives his unique powers of ingenuity and awareness.
Through the Leo Part of Impersonal Consciousness this person is able to see how people strive in vain for power and command, as well as the desire to uphold principles through which they can establish self-respect. He knows that there is a place for such things in the world, but he also knows that the world is in the state it has fallen to because these things have been misused and abused. It is the Leo love of truth and higher principles which act as a beacon for him, rather than identification with the limitation of power which can inhibit the spontaneous flow of life.
Little in the world can shock the person with an Aquarius Part of Fortune because there is enough room in his consciousness to accept the possibility of any occurrence. He lives in the future, exploring and discovering that which mankind considers as its most remote possibilities. He is a true free spirit: liberal in ideas and unconventional in attitudes. Contentment for him comes from not caring in any personal way about the direction in which society seems to be moving. He knows of a better future, based on a far-reaching vision of truth. Thus, the problems of the present can leave him relatively unconcerned. He knows they will be resolved in the best possible way. No need to worry.
Since the Leo energy is strongly based on the fulfillment of the ego through command and power, and the Aquarius energy is based on the avoidance of ego entrapment, he will find his greatest happiness in not being afraid or ashamed of his detachment and non-conformist attitudes. The strength to do this comes from that same Leonian energy. It is the Leo power which enables one to fight the desire for power because the vision has been directed inward as well as outward. As soon as this person accepts himself as being “different” and that his desires and ideas are unique, even prophetic in their advanced nature, he will begin to unfold the reality that his soul has been yearning for. He will know that his mind is free to explore the awareness, the consciousness which will ultimately free mankind from the shackles of its collective ego. The joy of this pot of gold is not just for the individual, but for all.

Yesterday, I wrote about the plot against Tiberius. This man was the ‘culprit’. His fall from the highest levels of the Roman Empire was spectacular. But was it true?
The timing of this chart is rectified to his death sentence by the Senate (Mars at age 50). I wasn’t expecting to see a Yod, involving the Midheaven (supported by the Sun and Pluto). What does that tell us about his ambitions?
Sun Inconjunct Midheaven
While you are young, you will find it difficult to decide what to do with your life. The demands of the world may sometimes be hard to handle, because they don’t seem to take advantage of your natural abilities and instincts. Also, much of your time will be taken up with learning routine skills that do not seem at first to have much connection with reality. But don’t try to rush your life. Even if you can’t see why you should learn a skill, try it out anyway. Later on, its purpose may become clear. Also you tend to rush through your tasks, because you are impatient to get to something else, but in that way you don’t learn anything very thoroughly. Or you may try to live entirely for what you think is most pleasurable at the moment rather than for your long-range goals. Certainly you have a right to be young and happy, but don’t overdo it; the lessons you do not learn well now will create problems when you try to pursue a future course of action.
This aspect can mean some tension with one of your parents, although it is not likely to be serious or destructive. In fact it may play a very positive role later on by forcing you to confront certain issues that you would otherwise have ignored. However, while you are young, you may resent this parent quite a bit. Do not take this too seriously, unless some other area of your chart indicates a more negative relationship.
Pluto Inconjunct Midheaven
You may have trouble with older people who try to teach you how to effectively take control of your life. Even while you are young, you may resent their control over you and resist everything that they are trying to teach you. To a great extent, your path in life will be shaped by your early confrontations with authority figures. Your parents would be well advised to give you as much control as possible over your own affairs and as much self-determination as you can handle. They should not try to keep an extremely tight rein on you, for if they do, you will explode and become very difficult to handle. Also your self-esteem would be damaged. Your parents and teachers should be very straightforward with you, because if you feel that people are not being honest with you, you will not be honest with them. You are quite capable of acting behind people’s backs if you consider it necessary or if you feel that you never get your own way.
During the 20s, Sejanus gradually accumulated power by consolidating his influence over Tiberius and eliminating potential political opponents, including the emperor’s son Drusus Julius Caesar. When Tiberius withdrew to Capri in AD 26, Sejanus was left in control of the administration of the empire. For a time the most influential and feared citizen of Rome, Sejanus suddenly fell from power in AD 31, the year his career culminated with the consulship. Amidst suspicions of conspiracy against Tiberius, Sejanus was arrested and executed, along with his followers.
Power is a very enticing mistress. One’s enemies don’t take kindly to fear and intimidation. They will plot to overthrow the tyranny in their eyes. (Good pun!)
I suspect this ‘death’ chart is accurate, based on the resulting interactive Yods. What it shows me is something I long predicted: Sejanus was not plotting behind Tiberius’ back; instead, he was plotted against by the Roman Senators. The charges were trumped up, based on ‘rumours’ that someone had whispered into Tiberius’ ear. Same as it ever was.
My wife has a saying that she probably told her children when they were growing up: “If you saw one of your friends jump off a bridge, would you do it, too?”
This movement began with an October 2017 with one post on 4chan. The identity of the individual(s) whose name is hidden behind a single letter of the alphabet has been one of the most hotly debated issues on the internet. Unfortunately, whoever was behind the original posts supported Trump and his determination to ‘drain the swamp’.
Conspiracy theories feed the hopes and fears of those without a powerful voice, so being part of a group of like-minded individuals gave them comfort that justice would finally be enacted against the Cabal and their minions, even if other countries had to get in on the act. But I shouldn’t mock them for that because Liberty and Justice for All is part of their credo. It’s just a shame that the second part (United under God) is lost.
David Wilcock has been echoing what this group has been sharing over the last four years. For some reason, and I suspect it’s because of all the ‘insider’ information he’d been feed, he thought Trump was a good guy doing a difficult job. Didn’t he see the riots, didn’t he see the insurrection? Did he want Martial Law to be enacted? Spiritual people aren’t supposed to root for either side of a conflict, as far as I am concerned.
And speaking of Martial Law: the ‘true believers’ wanted to reverse the will of the people, by Trump declaring a military state and staying in power. Really? The Storming of the Capitol put paid to that idea when the National Guard was called out to protect Washington DC, so that the Biden/Harris inauguration could proceed without a hitch. That was a monumental blunder, in my opinion.
WWG1WWA: Trust the Plan?
What a shame, eh? One rat was pushed from the sinking ship, and the rest were all lost.
Interesting, isn’t it, how I’ve managed to avoid looking at Emperor Tiberius, until now? Why is that? Could it be that I ‘know’ something about him, too? Let’s take a look:
I have rectified his chart to align the timing of the loss of his father (Saturn) in childhood. In truth, his father died when he was nine years old, but his mother divorced him when he was only three. I’ve set Saturn at about six years, splitting the difference. As a result, a Yod appears linking Saturn with Mars and the Midheaven.
Mars Inconjunct Saturn
This can be a difficult aspect because it signifies a conflict between your sense of responsibility and your desire to fulfill your own needs and do what you want. This leads to a struggle within you that may keep you from acting decisively. Instead of deciding what you will do, you feel caught between these two forces, wondering whether you have the right to do what you want. You may feel that others are trying to frustrate you, but it is your own indecisiveness that is causing the trouble. Sometimes this conflict makes you very irritable and resentful about nothing in particular. Then, when someone happens to act in a way that is obviously annoying, you focus all your built-up anger on that person.
Saturn Inconjunct Midheaven
This aspect indicates that you very much need a positive relationship with your parents, especially your father. You should not be disciplined sternly unless you are given lots of love at the same time. Otherwise, giving and receiving love from others will be a real problem for the rest of your life. Unless you are truly supported by your family and friends, you will begin to feel lonely and isolated from others and inferior to them. Also you are likely to have very serious difficulties with authority figures, because you are afraid of how they will treat you, not expecting that anyone will ever give you the loving guidance you need. You will see all authorities only as potential threats to your freedom and as sources of pain and trouble.
Capo Miseno
Tiberius’ death chart is randomized. And yet, there’s a Yod pointing at Neptune (8 Aquarius), formed by the conjunction between Saturn and Uranus on the one hand, and the Ascendant on the other. With Mars in the 12th House, and just coming out of a conjunction with the Ascendant, I do believe that he was murdered by suffocation in his ‘bedclothes’. Marco may have done it, with (or without) the help of Caligula.
Another relevant point is that Tiberius retired to Capri towards the end of his life.
In 31, Sejanus held the consulship with Tiberius in absentia, and began his play for power in earnest. Precisely what happened is difficult to determine, but Sejanus seems to have covertly attempted to court those families who were tied to the Julians and attempted to ingratiate himself with the Julian family line to place himself, as an adopted Julian, in the position of Princeps, or as a possible regent. Livilla was later implicated in this plot and was revealed to have been Sejanus’s lover for several years.
The plot seems to have involved the two of them overthrowing Tiberius, with the support of the Julians, and either assuming the Principate themselves, or serving as regent to the young Tiberius Gemellus or possibly even Caligula. Those who stood in his way were tried for treason and swiftly dealt with.
In AD 31 Sejanus was summoned to a meeting of the Senate, where a letter from Tiberius was read condemning Sejanus and ordering his immediate execution. Sejanus was tried, and he and several of his colleagues were executed within the week. As commander of the Praetorian Guard, he was replaced by Naevius Sutorius Macro.
Tacitus claims that more treason trials followed and that whereas Tiberius had been hesitant to act at the outset of his reign, now, towards the end of his life, he seemed to do so without compunction. The hardest hit were those families with political ties to the Julians. Even the imperial magistracy was hit, as any and all who had associated with Sejanus or could in some way be tied to his schemes were summarily tried and executed, their properties seized by the state.
Plot by Sejanus against Tiberius (from Wikipedia)
It is this situation that may have been the prompt for the Jews to be able to threaten Pontius Pilate if he didn’t ‘behave’ himself. The eventually telescoping of Jesus’ execution may have been a retro-justification in the minds of the Apostles, especially when their stories were written down in the century after the events. Jesus was executed in 30 AD, a year before Sejanus (Pilate’s friend) was executed for treason.
“Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar’s…” Jesus (Mark 12:17).
