A Modern Example of a Maven*

Mark Alpert (November 6, 1942)

Malcolm Gladwell, in his book “The Tipping Point”, interviewed this man, when he was still at the University of Texas.

Mark Alpert is a slender, energetic man in his fifties [in 2000]. He has dark hair and a prominent nose and two small, burning, intelligent eyes. He talks quickly and precisely and with absolute authority. He’s the kind of person who doesn’t say that it was hot yesterday. He would say that we had a high of 87 degrees yesterday. He doesn’t walk up stairs. He runs up them, like a small boy. He gives the sense that he is interested in and curious about everything, that, even at his age, if you gave him a children’s chemistry set he would happily sit down right then and there and create some strange new concoction.

The Tipping Point (page 63)

It will come as no surprise to anyone who knows Mark Alpert that he wrote a book called “Pricing Decisions” when he was just 21.

What makes people like Mark Alpert so important in starting epidemics? Obviously they know things that the rest of us don’t. They read more magazines than the rest of us, more newspapers, and they may be the only people who read junk mail. Mark Alpert happens to be a connoisseur of electronic equipment. If there was a breakthrough new television or video-camera, and you were a friend of his, you can bet you would hear all about it quickly. Mavens have the knowledge and the social skills to start word-of-mouth epidemics. What sets Mavens apart, though, is not so much what they know but how they pass it along. The fact that Mavens want to help, for no other reason than because they like to help, turns out to be an awfully effective way of getting someone’s attention.

Ibid (page 67)

(* The word maven comes from the Yiddish meyvn, meaning “one who understands.” But to be a maven you have to more than just understand a topic, you have to know its ins and outs. Often mavens are the people that you turn to as experts in a field. You don’t become a maven overnight. That kind of expertise comes with an accumulation of knowledge over the years.)

Meet Mark Alpert

This chart is rectified to the age (25) that Alpert married his wife (Venus). That is some line-up of planets around his Descendant. There are three inconjuncts.

Sun Inconjunct Saturn

You will always require structure in your life, and you will always be happier with some kind of discipline. But you should also try out new kinds of experience, do new and different things and expand the structure of your life. Instead of always staying home, go out and see new places, meet new people. This is the only way that you can learn to overcome your shyness and lack of confidence.

Venus Inconjunct Saturn

This aspect means that your family may make you feel that you are unworthy of love. Unless you are given a great deal of love while you are young, you will be attracted to cold and unfeeling people when you are an adult. Such people are an outward expression of your inner feeling of unworthiness.

Even without any pressure, you are likely to be more disciplined than most people your age. You don’t go overboard in anything, and you feel strongly that your worth depends on what you do and how much you accomplish.

(Saturn is in the 2nd House of money and personal possessions.)

Mars Inconjunct Uranus

Sometimes you may make sudden moves that startle people. You may make a decision very quickly and start to act on it immediately, but that is not such a good idea. Make up your mind more slowly, or at least wait for a while until you start to act. If your idea still looks good a couple of days later, it is probably all right to go ahead with it.

(Uranus is in the 1st House of personality.)

William Herschel Discovers Uranus (March 13, 1781)

William Herschel (November 15, 1738 – August 25, 1822)

I know that this event has spawned a great number of social media memes in recent years, but it was one of the most timely of finds in 1781. It was five years after the American Revolution and eight years before the French Revolution. That is why Uranus is associated with rebellion and revolution. Its own revolution around the Sun is 84 years.

The rating for this birth time is C. That essentially means that no one knows for sure what time Herschel was born. But I’m going with that time anyway. There are three inconjuncts, which may help us understand the man.

Sun Inconjunct Neptune

You are very sensitive to your environment and to the people around you. On one level of your being, you feel what is going on very acutely. Unfortunately your understanding often comes in terms that are very difficult to communicate to others, because their meaning is not clear in your own mind. Your greatest danger is in being exposed to negative people who are full of anger or depression or who act very harshly toward you and undermine your self-confidence. Your self-confidence has to be boosted at every conceivable opportunity, and it would be very destructive for you to be criticized sharply, unless the person has made it very clear that he or she loves you.

Mercury Inconjunct Neptune

The challenge of this aspect is to make your thinking and communication with others more clear. Your rational mind is strongly influenced by your sensitivity, imagination and ideals, although you aren’t always sure how this happens. You tend to spend too much time in your own imaginary world that no one else can share, and this confuses your dealings with others. You will have to learn to face reality, so that you can at least communicate with people. Otherwise you will have a very lonely life.

Venus Inconjunct Mars

While you are young, as well as later, you may be attracted to persons, who, if you think rationally about it, do not seem very well suited to you. This problem will be greatest if you do not feel good about yourself, for it is a reflection of your own inner turmoil about love and your right to be loved.

(Would it be telling tales out of the classroom if I were to comment on the fact that he did most of his work with his sister, Caroline? I thought so…)

The Discovery

View of Uranus from the Hubble Space Telescope’s NICMOS camera (1998)

.

If you can follow my logic, I randomized the timing of this chart and then changed a.m. to p.m. His discovery was at night. The chart above shows Uranus above the horizon in the western sky just about the time that the Moon was rising in the east. Does that make sense? (I trust the randomizing effect, as it has been proven right 90% of the time.) In fact, Uranus is the only planet in the western sky that night.

There are three inconjuncts:

Venus Inconjunct Neptune

This aspect will work out with the fewest problems if you get a great deal of emotional support from your parents and other loved ones. You are willing to serve, help and assist those you love, but you may honestly feel that you don’t deserve to be loved unless you are forced to serve your loved one in some way. This is because you feel that loving someone requires you to make sacrifices and to deny your own needs and that love may not necessarily make you feel good and warm. When you are older, you may have severe problems in love relationships, because you feel that you are only good enough for society’s losers, people who badly need help or have severe emotional problems. Or you may find someone who seems to be perfect, who will help you out of your problems, but later turns out to be a disappointment. You must learn to take a clear, objective view of the people you are attracted to and to realize that you deserve a positive love relationship as much as the other person does, for you are as worthwhile as anyone.

Jupiter Inconjunct Uranus

You will always need freedom, but you will also discover that what you do with your life will have meaning only if it means something to others. This is not an artificial rule but a truth that you will discover within yourself. When you do, you may become heavily involved in some social movement that advocates unusual ideas or ways of thinking. When you are an adult, you may join a movement for social reform and change.

Pluto Inconjunct Midheaven

You may have trouble with older people who try to teach you how to effectively take control of your life. Even while you are young, you may resent their control over you and resist everything they are trying to teach you. To a great extent, your path in life will be shaped by your early confrontations with authority figures. You parents would be well advised to give you as much control as possible over your own affairs and as much self-determination as you can handle. They should not try to keep an extremely tight rein on you, for if they do, you will explode and become very difficult to handle. Also your self-esteem would be damaged. Your parents and teachers should be very straightforward with you, because if you feel that people are not being honest with you, you will not be honest with them. You are quite capable of acting behind peoples’ backs if you consider it necessary or if you feel that you never get your own way.

Herschel was the right man for the job.

Herschel’s Part of Fortune is conjunct the event’s Sun @ 23° Pisces. The event’s South Node is conjunct Herschel’s Pluto @ 6° Scorpio. The event’s Part of Fortune is conjunct Herschel’s Saturn @ 9° Cancer. That’s three water sign connections. Hmm.

A Classic Example of a Connector

Paul Revere (January 1, 1735 – May 10, 1818)

1813 portrait of Paul Revere by Gilbert Stuart

In his book, The Tipping Point, author Malcolm Gladwell uses Paul Revere‘s Midnight Ride to illustrate how one person can create a social movement by their actions. Let’s look at Revere, first.

There is only one astrology site that has a birth chart for this man. The classification is C: Accuracy in Question. That’s my usual comment when someone’s birth time is unknown, or I’ve randomized their chart. However, I’m going to stick with it, since it might be chosen for chart rectification purposes.

I like the fact that Neptune is @ 22° Gemini in the 11th House of Groups and Associations. That seems to be appropriate, somehow. It is also the pivotal planet for four aspects that define his personality. There are no hidden agendas.

Here, then, is the explanation for why Paul Revere’s midnight ride started a word-of-mouth epidemic and William Dawes’s ride did not[…] He was a Connector. He was, for example, gregarious and intensely social. When he died, his funeral was attended, in the words of one contemporary newspaper account, by ‘troops of people.’ He was a fisherman and a hunter, a card player and a theater-lover, a frequenter of pubs and a successful businessman. He was active in the local Masonic Lodge and was a member of several select social clubs. He was also a doer, a man blessed — as David Hackett Fischer recounts in his brilliant book Paul Revere’s Ride — with an ‘uncanny genius for being at the center of events.’

The Tipping Point: The Law of the Few (page 16)

Yes, that sounds just like a Mason in the 18th Century.

The Famous Midnight Ride

I think the accuracy of this time is fairly exact, even if I say so myself. There are two inconjuncts.

Mars Inconjunct Pluto

You have a strong will and always want to have your own way. But very often it seems as if tremendous forces are working to prevent you from getting what you want. If you have this problem, it is because of the way you go about trying to achieve your goals. If you put too much force into your desire to get something, you may unknowingly alienate people because your aggressive manner shows that you will let nothing stop you from getting what you want. Even if that isn’t the way you really feel about it, you should recognize that your forcefulness creates this impression.

On the other hand, this aspect sometimes means that you are the victim of such energies in someone else, that you always seem to attract forceful persons who give you a hard time. Either they never let you have your own way, or they may be rather brutal, physically and psychologically. Learn to recognize such persona in advance and avoid them. Also think about why you are attracted to them, since in fact you may be quite fascinated by their forcefulness.

At certain times in your life, when there are great changes taking place within you and in your environment, you will have to work very hard to make your affairs turn out right. There is nothing to be done at those times except do the work that must be done. Fortunately you have plenty of energy and enough endurance to pull through anything that you will encounter in life. You are basically tough and persistent. These changes are an integral part of your growth, and even if everything seems to go wrong they are necessary to your full development.

Revere’s ride is in blue

Jupiter Inconjunct Ascendant

With this aspect, you may discover that in order to grow and get ahead in life, you will have to put aside your own needs and do whatever the situation or other people require. At times you will go through tremendous and possibly painful creative changes in your life, in which everything that you are is replaced by a new order. Your environment may change radically, or you may lose all your old friends and find a whole set of new ones. During these times you will arrive at new understandings and realizations that make it impossible for you to continue as before. You must always be open to new ideas and be willing to change your outlook on life.

Probably you will accomplish the most if you direct your energies to tasks that benefit others as well as yourself. It may be that much of your work will not benefit you directly, but in the long run you will gain from it. Even while you are young you need to make a useful contribution to society, and is doing this you will learn and grow as an individual. This is not merely a plea for you to be unselfish, but an assertion that you will achieve your goals most quickly by doing work that helps others.

On the other hand, if you try to get what you want for yourself alone, especially at other people’s expense, you will find it hard to get anywhere. Also you will have difficulty maintaining your friendships and other relationships. With this aspect, being selfish could have very negative results for your eventual happiness. Do not try to selfishly hold on to what you have. If you give of yourself freely, you will have more.

Obviously, Paul Revere was the man for the job…

WHO Declares Pandemic (March 11, 2020)

@ 12:39 pm EDT

This has been the longest two years of mt life. In terms of history, the situation is still current. Here’s the chart for the exact moment that Time Magazine published their online article about it.

North Node conjunct Ascendant? This hardly ever happens, so it makes me think that this was a cosmic event.

Planetary conjunctions to the North Node urge the individual to leave his past behind. Instead, he will experience a new karmic lesson in the current life. During his younger years, he tends to misuse his North Node until he is able to discover its latent potential.

Occasionally, he tries to fall back on his South Node, but each time he does he finds circumstances which are so unbearably intolerable that he again chooses to re-evaluate his North Node possibilities. Ultimately he realizes that he is being subliminally pressured to step forward into a uniquely new experience.

Karmic Astrology: the Moon’s Nodes and Reincarnation by Martin Schulman (page 100)

The Moon (as ruler of Cancer Rising) is on the 5th House cusp, square to Mars, Jupiter and Pluto in Capricorn. The Moon is also inconjunct to the Sun and Neptune.

Sun Inconjunct Moon

This aspect suggests that there is a subtle conflict going on inside you that may sometimes create emotional problems. The Sun signifies your conscious personality, the way in which you act and the kinds of activities that you like to get involved in. The Moon signifies the emotional and less conscious side of you. It indicates the habits that take over when you are not acting consciously and feelings that come up from deep inside you. The inconjunct aspect between the Sun and Moon means that the Sun part of your personality is quite different from the Moon part, and it may be hard for you to relate them to each other. It is as if you are divided in two, so that whenever you have to make an important decision, especially one that involves your feelings, the different sides of your personality want to go in opposite directions. You sometimes find it difficult to decide if you like something or if you want to take part in some activity.

But a much more difficult problem arise if you decide that one of these personalities is good and the other bad, so that you try to repress and hold down any behavior from the “bad” side. Unfortunately, that only makes it more difficult to handle that side, so that you have intense urges to do things that you think you should not do. You begin to act in ways that betray the image of yourself that you are trying to build up.

The only solution is to accept both sides of your personality, for they are both you, and it is important to express them both. It is only your attitude of rejection that makes one side good and the other side bad.

Moon Inconjunct Neptune

This aspect indicates that you are very sensitive and that you pick up feelings from the people around you very easily. The danger is that many of these feelings will be difficult to cope with; they may make you afraid of the world and reluctant to go out into it, as you must do when you are older. As a result, you prefer to be alone with your thoughts and let your fancies wander wherever they want to go. When you are older, this may help you use your imagination very creatively, but it won’t help you work out your everyday problems. You must learn to stand on your own and not depend on others. You also have to learn that you are worth as much as anyone else, for you tend to withdraw when someone acts aggressive[ly]. But the adults who help you learn these lessons must be gentle and understanding. Otherwise you will shrink back into yourself. Above all, you must not be made to feel incompetent or inadequate, or you will think of yourself as a loser all your life.

People with this aspect often hide their real feelings and make sacrifices for others that they do not really want to make. Then they resent the person who asked for the sacrifice. You must learn to tell people how you really feel; if you do not, you have only yourself to blame for what happens. You must learn to accept that you are responsible for your own life. Do not act as if you are the victim of strong forces that you can’t control, because you can control them.

So World, have we learned our lessons well?

How Anything Happens, Against All Odds

The Tipping Point (2013 Edition)

My son got this book for me, for my 72nd birthday. Thanks, Derek. After reading most of my other books from my birthday, I am starting to settle on this one. The title alone has given me pause to think about the Russian-Ukraine conflict, within the context of world news. It’s been a very long time since almost the whole world has been rooting for the underdog. Even yesterday, the drone footage of Russian tanks being shelled and having to scatter in order to avoid destruction shows how a little resistance can help to strike back at the overwhelming forces around you.

It was the same for the Truck Convoy driving to Ottawa. It was an ill-conceived attempt to undermine the government of Canada, but it caught the public’s imagination and got plenty of support right across the country. The idea of a common ‘enemy’ is old-hat, but it’s still the most effective way to unite people.

The Tipping Point is that magic moment when an idea, trend, or social behavior crosses a threshold, tips, and spreads like wildfire. Just as a single sick person can start an epidemic of flu, so too can a small but precisely targeted push cause a fashion trend, the popularity of a new product, or a drop in the crime rate. This bestselling book, in which Malcolm Gladwell brilliantly illuminates the tipping point phenomenon, is already changing the way people throughout the world think about selling products and disseminating ideas.

Back cover blurb

Yes, the book is about selling a product or idea, but its methods are adaptable to media savvy individuals, like Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy, who can effectively stir up support for their cause.

It has been slightly over two weeks since Putin sent his (mostly conscripted) armed forces across Ukraine’s borders. He hasn’t won his skirmish(?) yet, and perhaps he never will, because even when one wins a battle, one can lose the war, in the end. And that’s how the tipping point works.

Beware the Ides of March, again, Caesar.

Question: Who Will Succeed, Zelenskyy or Putin?

Psycard Reading, Today

@ 8:55 am EST

Seems dumb to even attempt a double-headed question, but it came out that way as I was shuffling the cards. As you can see I got a NO on one side and a YES on the other, much as you would expect.

The curious thing for me is the Fortune card sitting in the middle, just below the Inquirer card. The rest of the cards seem more obvious, so I’m going to start in the middle and work my way outwards.

Fortune

A seeker, lantern in hand, is shown ascending a winding staircase leading up to a garret where a treasure chest is waiting.

The card signifies the quest ending in fulfillment. It stands for success achieved by good luck, persistence, and an increase in wealth.

(Going to the Right)

Yes

Go ahead, a green light, an affirmative and positive card.

The Beast

A Dragon bars the path, fearful and malevolent.

The characteristics of the Dragon represent the challenge of facing up to evil. It stands for confrontation with the powerful dark forces of our unconscious mind; also for the bad temper and spiteful side of our natures; or that of others.

The Body

A body stripped of the outer layer showing the muscles and veins, on a squared background of enlarged veins, all in shades if red and blue.

This card initially stands for our physical make-up. Indicating health and bodily well-being, or lack of it. It also implies rhythms of our body which govern our health and happiness together with the meridians.

(Going to the Left)

No

Hold back, a red light, a stand-still and negative card.

The Liar

The jester comes forward onto the stage, balancing on one foot, and his expression can appear sly. A dropped purse lies at his feet whilst he holds aloft his replica and a mask.

This card stands for deception and the possibility that you are being deceived, or deceiving yourself. It symbolizes falsity, disguise, cheating, malice, and those occasions when one has to wear a mask to the world for whatever reason.

Destruction

A scene of horror and carnage is depicted with a castle being stormed by medieval soldiers and a church burned. Fire, blood and cruelty are the order of the day, also a woman tied to a stake, helpless.

War, vandalism, wanton and futile destruction are unfortunately part of human nature. This is reflected in Indian mythology by the Goddess Kali. This card depicts the element in our collective psychology.

It is therefore a fearful one that warns of the destructive side of our own nature and that of others. If it has a positive side it is that without fire, sometimes, nothing new can be built.

Conclusion

It’s obvious, isn’t it? Putin is destroying his beloved Russia, even as he tries to destroy Ukraine. Zelenskyy, on the other hand, is facing his country’s worst fear and remaining healthy. No for Putin. Yes for Zelenskyy. Do you agree?

Putin: Be Careful What You Ask For…

Tarot: 7 of Swords

This is my three-thousand-and-first post. I may be starting to write about other divinatory processes. As I sat down to write this, the Seven of Swords came to mind, so I decided to go with that image.

In the older version, this card showed a military camp in the background; here, from a different perspective, we can see a very tall castle or watchtower rising up from a hill. The man is probably going there, carrying his stolen swords. He is on tiptoe; he carries the swords by the blades. The image initially evokes the idea of a furtive action. The fact that the stolen objects are swords indicates the necessity to procure an efficient defense (a reading further reinforced by the castle). On the other hand, this man’s circumspect behavior indicates his fear of being found out. He doesn’t want people to know about the weapons he possesses; thus, they are dangerous for him, too — a fact demonstrated by the fact the man carries them by the blades. What are these weapons? They can represent many different things: a revealed secret, one or more powerful friends, a contract, a cure … many others will come to mind during the interpretation.

Tarot of the New Vision (page 113)

Maybe we’ve all jumped to the wrong conclusion about Putin’s intentions. Maybe this whole ‘invasion of Ukraine’ tactic is just to keep everyone at home happy with his leadership. He may have no other choice but to stand up to NATO, since encroachment on the old Soviet Union countries is a fact of the last 30 years, since the Iron Curtain was lifted. The nuclear weapons defense preparation seemed a little premature, at least to me. Putin thought it all would be done and dusted in a week, but he was mistaken.

It has been noted elsewhere that Ukraine gave back its nuclear missiles to Russia in exchange for the sovereign right to be considered a separate country. Evidently, the USA and the UK were signatories to their written agreement. Now, no one wants to ‘upset’ Putin, so this fact has been swept under the carpet.

But I am mindful of the Tarot cards that follow this one: 8 of Swords; 9 of Swords; and the 10 of Swords. Things could get progressively worse for Putin.

So, if I were him, I’d be very careful what I asked for…I might just get it: DEATH.

The Day the Candle was Blown Out by the Wind

Why the Overdose Conclusion? (August 4, 1962)

I’ve written about this event previously, and then deleted everything at the request of a woman who thought she was her reincarnation. Now, at last, I’ve come to the conclusion that she is not her next life.

Like others before her, this individual may have overdosed accidentally, or, unlike those same others, she may have been accidentally murdered. (That sounds like a contradiction in terms, doesn’t it?)

The Usual Suspects

I’m only referencing this film as an illustration of the many theories that have circulated since her death.

Keyser Söze is the Devil. In astrological terms, he would be represented by Pluto.

“The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist,” says con man (Verbal) Kint (Kevin Spacey), drawing a comparison to the most enigmatic criminal of all time, Keyser Soze. Kint attempts to convince the feds that the mythic crime lord not only exists, but is also responsible for drawing Kint and his four partners into a multi-million dollar heist that ended with an explosion in San Pedro Harbor – leaving few survivors.

I noted in her birth chart that Pluto was conjunct her Ascendant. Here it’s situated on her ‘fatal’ 6th House cusp (health workers, doctors). As I’ve seen in some reports, the attending doctor tried to resuscitate her by attempting to administer an adrenaline shot directly into her heart. He hit her chest bone instead, thereby missing his target. She died.

Sun Inconjunct Jupiter

This can be an extremely useful aspect, if you learn to have more self-control in what you do. Jupiter is always high-spirited, wanting to do and encounter everything and enjoy life thoroughly. Yet in some combinations, it means that you are unwilling to work for what you want. You may feel that you are such a fine person that you deserve to have everything done for you. Certainly you are worthwhile in your own way, but that doesn’t give you the right to be taken care of without contributing your share. As with all Sun-Jupiter energies, if you learn to support others, to make them feel good and happy in your presence, you will get their support as well. Then there will always be someone to help you when you need it. But if you act arrogant[ly] toward others, they may not stay around to support you.

It is also important to discipline your habits and try not to do anything to excess, as you may tend to do. You may gain a great deal of weight, for example, or damage your health in other ways. Laziness and physical softness are very great dangers with this aspect. You may tend to be sloppy in the way your dress and take care of yourself.

Sun Inconjunct Midheaven

While you are young, you will find it difficult to decide what to do with your life. The demands of the world may sometimes be hard to handle, because they don’t seem to take advantage of your natural abilities and instincts. Also, much of your time will be taken up with learning routine skills that do not seem at first to have much connection with reality. But don’t try to rush your life. Even if you can’t see why you should learn a skill, try it out anyway. Later on, its purpose may become clear. Also you tend to rush through your tasks, because you are impatient to get to something else, but in that way you don’t learn anything very thoroughly. Or you may try to live entirely for what you think is most pleasurable at the moment rather than for your long-range goals. Certainly you have a right to be young and happy, but don’t overdo it; the lessons you do not learn well now will create problems when you try to pursue a future course of action.

This aspect can mean some tension with one of your parents, although it is not likely to be serious or destructive. In fact it may play a very positive role later on by forcing you to confront certain issues that you would otherwise have ignored. However, while you are young, you may resent this parent quite a bit. Do not take this too seriously, unless some other area of your chart indicates a more negative relationship.

Saturn Inconjunct Pluto

This aspect signifies a feeling that you must work extremely hard merely to keep your life running smoothly on a day-to-day level. Often it is associated with quite a bit of tension, especially in your muscles, but also in your emotional approach to life. You need to learn that the world is not always a place of struggle and that occasionally it is good to get go and relax. If your home life has been harsh or difficult, it will bring out the worst side of this aspect, and in time you will develop a cynical attitude toward the world in general. You will become intolerant of your own and others’ weaknesses, and you will take advantage of every opportunity, even if it means hurting someone else. But this is likely to happen only if you have not been given a reasonable break or if you haven’t been allowed to be a child, to be weak and make mistakes.

Even under favorable circumstances, this aspect usually means that you are resistant to change, that you hold on to any situation, no matter how bad, until it is totally intolerable. Then when change does take place, it has to create a revolution and a total breakdown of everything that came before it. You must learn to adapt to circumstances a bit more gracefully and not be afraid of occasional compromise.

When His Need for Speed Turned Deadly

James Dean’s Fatal Car Crash (September 30, 1955)

Filling up his new car @ 2 pm on September 30, 1955

Meet the ‘Little Bastard’.

Dean Jeffries, who had a paint shop next to [George] Barris, did the customizing work which consisted of: painting ‘130’ in black non-permanent paint on the front hood, doors and rear deck lid. He also painted “Little Bastard” in script across the rear cowling. The red leather bucket seats and red tail stripes were original. The tail stripes were painted by the Stuttgart factory, which was customary on the Spyders for racing ID.

Wikipedia

As the sun was setting on that fateful day, James Dean would crash his brand new Porsche 550 Spyder.

The Moon @ 27° Pisces in the 12th House is significant. It is the apex of a double Yod involving Mercury conjunct Neptune on one side and Pluto on the other. There is one further inconjunct connecting Uranus and the Midheaven.

Moon Inconjunct Mercury

As you grow older, you will have to learn to make your feelings and your reason work together. The problem is not so much that they come into conflict with each other, but that your reason and feelings represent two very different sides of your personality. When you are calm and collected and able to reflect carefully, you make decisions in one way. But when you are emotionally involved in a situation, you are likely to make up your mind very differently, which could cause you to seem inconsistent to others and make it difficult for them to understand you.

Moon Inconjunct Neptune

People with this aspect often hide their real feelings and make sacrifices for others that they do not really want to make. Then they resent the person who asked for the sacrifice. You must learn to tell people how you really feel; if you do not, you have only yourself to blame for what happens. You must learn to accept that you are responsible for your own life. Do not act as if you are the victim of strong forces that you can’t control, because you can control them.

Moon Inconjunct Pluto

This aspect means that your emotions are very intense and not always easy to deal with. Often your feelings make you want to do or say something without knowing why. Also you may have very intense moods in which you withdraw from those around you into a world of your own. This should not be a very serious problem unless you have been brought up to have all sorts of fears and worries. In that case your actions will be driven by your fears, and you may behave quite strangely. If you do not feel accepted and emotionally supported at home, you may constantly feel guilty for what you think you have done to others, or jealous that people aren’t paying enough attention to you, or generally possessive of those around you.

Mercury Conjunct Neptune

You have a very rich imagination, but you must learn to control it enough to understand what is real and what is not. That is the challenge of this aspect. It is unlikely that you mean to be a liar, but you may have trouble telling the truth, simply because you don’t always know it yourself. You may tell untruths without meaning to. You have a very rich fantasy world, which seems very real to you, and in a way it is real, but not in a way that most others can accept. However, as you grow older and learn to understand your mind, your fantasy world can become a rich source of ideas for creative writing or art.

You are also very sensitive to what is going on in other people’s minds, even when they don’t say a word. This may be confusing at first, because you don’t know how you know something, and that makes others disbelieve you, even when you are right. Your intuition is very highly developed.

Sometimes this aspect means that you have nervous problems for no clear reason. Even while you are young, you simply have to rest your nerves at times, especially if you are around people who create a lot of excitement and stress. You need peace and quiet.

In school you are not likely to be very good at math and science, not because you are slow, but because you do not think that way. You do not like your mind to be limited by the dry laws of logic.

When you feel rebellious and unwilling to accept anything you are told, you should be allowed, within reason, to have the experience that will help you understand your elders’ point of view. If you are lucky enough to have parents who let you do this, you will eventually get over your childhood resentment of being told what to do. Although you may not always agree with what they tell you, at least you will consider the merits of their views.

[Now, it may seem strange to delineate the aspects for an accidental death, especially since they relate to the event and not the life of the deceased, but I am a firm believer in the idea that the effects of the cycles of heaven at our death are the unconscious thoughts and feelings we carry into our next life.]

And the irony of this? At the time of the crash, James Dean may have been driving the speed limit.

Three Deaths: Same Eyes, Same Eyes

American Roulette by Robbie Robertson

1988

This song has been haunting me for over a month now. It actually was the prompt to look at James Dean this morning. The other two individuals have been the subjects of previous posts, one still extant, the other deleted. In the not too distant future I might recreate the second one.

I didn’t actually expect anything to show up by comparing these three death charts, but I should have known better. There are lots of connections, the strongest being the South Node in Dean’s chart to Mars in hers and Mars in his @ 19-21° Gemini (same i’s, same i’s). The rest are ‘coincidental’, perhaps?

Here’s a video of the song, followed by the lyrics…

American Roulette

Robbie Robertson

He was born in the belly of the country,
Over East of Eden, yeah,
Confused by the big city blues,
He didn’t know whose life he’s leading, no,
Put yourself behind the wheel
And see if you can get that feel, oh,
Move faster by night, yeah,
Move faster by night, uhmm,
The windows were all shattered
And the body was all battered:

American roulette,
Stake your life upon it,
American roulette,
Same eyes, same eyes,
American roulette.

Take that boy and put him in a mansion,
Paint the windows black,
Give him all the women that he wants,
Put a monkey on his back,
All of your so-called friends
Take you where the sidewalk ends, they say
Can’t sleep at night, no,
Can’t sleep at night, uhmm,
Lord, please save his soul,
He was the King of Rock and Roll:

American roulette,
Stake your life upon it,
American roulette,
Same eyes, same eyes,
American roulette.

They said she didn’t have a chance in hell
For the American Dream,
There’s a thousand young blonds out there
Trying to make it to the silver screen,
But she had the walk, the look, the talk
That shook the world read about it,
Some like it hot, boy,
Some like it cool,
Too much for her to handle,
Another scandal, she burnt the candle:

American roulette,
Stake your life upon it,
American roulette,
Same eyes, same eyes,
American roulette.

Say a prayer for the lost generation
Who spin the wheel out of desperation:

American roulette,
Stake your life upon it,
American roulette,
Same eyes, same eyes,
American roulette.
