Who is the Count of Saint Germain?

intro-1629825326

International Man of Mystery

While researching alchemy and alchemists, I came across the man who was a legend in his own lifetime (1710-1784). He also has a counterpart in Theosophical circles: St. Germain. But who is he, really?

My go-to book for all things Gnostic, Forbidden Faith by Richard Smoley, has but one paragraph about him, and even that has inconsistencies when compared with the volumes of information from Wikipedia that are shown in the above links:

The Comte de St.-Germain may have been a Sephardic Jew born in Portugal in 1710; he may also have been a Transylvanian nobleman named Francis Ragoczy. Wild rumors about him circulated — that he was centuries old, that he lived on nothing but an elixir that he made himself, that he had invented Freemasonry. He died in Germany in 1782 — but then was seen in Paris during the Revolution several years later. To this day, as an “ascended master,” he remains a vivid presence for devotees of the New Age, a number of whom claim to have had communications from him.

So what is one to make of this confusion and confabulation?

Yesterday, I wrote about the Tarot card, The Star(s). I did that with a purpose in mind. In the background of the image on the card is a pilgrim, identified by the text as a Gnostic. Can this be a hint? I think so.

International Man of History

My post about Colin Bloy had this subtitle. I thought I was being clever, linking Colin’s former work as a spy, for her majesty’s secret service, with the Austen Powers film of the (almost) same title. But that’s the way the Holy Spirit works. These clues are given long before the solution presents itself.

Tarot of the New Vision: My Card

XVII The Stars

I won’t deny that I totally identify with this Tarot card. (You may have noticed that my online identity is cdsmiller17.) The digits added together equal 8, the upright version of the Infinity symbol.

The card also represents Aquarius, my birth sign.

All-in-all, this fits me to a tee.

So, just for the sake of clarity, I am going to quote extensively from the book that accompanies this deck of cards.

XVII – The Stars

A large and bright eight-pointed star shines in the sky, surrounded by seven smaller ones; one seven are the mysterious numbers of this card. A completely naked maiden dominates the picture. With her right hand, she pours an essence from a jug into a stream; with her other hand, she pours something else onto the ground. We’ll look more closely at the meaning of these gestures later, but now we must remember a fundamental part of the scenery: the tree. It was in the older versions of the card, but we can’t see it here, as our position has changed.

star

The Soul of the Universe

A bird representing “The Garden of the Soul” was perched on the tree in the background, suggesting a place where existence or ideas, before coming into the world, are suspended between being and not being. The bird, in fact, in ancient mythology and biblical symbolism, represents both intelligence as well as the soul.

The maiden near the stream, therefore, can be defined as the Soul of the Universe, pictured at the moment she regenerates life by pouring the celestial essence on the ground and into the water.

The Star of Love

The eight-pointed star drawn on the ground, along with the flaming torch in its center, suggests the immortality of life and the spiritual regeneration that comes in cycles — a virtue of superior Grace. A star identical to this one exists in the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, marking the spot where Jesus was born. In its center shines an everlasting candle.

The eight-pointed star is also the hieroglyphic for Ishtar, or Venus, the goddess of love in Mesopotamian mythology, who appears in different guises in the myths of many people. One of these is Siduri, the young maiden who, in Gilgamesh’s epic, guards the Garden of the Gods. When she meets the hero, who seeks immortality, Siduri explains to him that when the gods created men, they decided their destiny was death. As a result, it’s important to enjoy the good things in life: dancing, feasting, loving one’s wife, having children. This is what the goddess said, but in this “Garden of the Stars” there’s more. The stars represent the gifts of the sky, expressed in the seven Liberal Arts, in the seven Virtues, and in the psychic qualities symbolized by the seven planets.

A Wanderer among the Stars

The pilgrim we see in the background is the Gnostic, searching for answers to life’s questions. The maiden represents the naked truth he’s looking for, as well as that he might not (and might not want to) see: enjoyment, love, procreating — the essence of common existence. This is suggested by the anagram of the number XVII; rearranged, the Roman numerals form a Latin word: VIXI, “I have lived”.

The sense of life, though, for the Gnostic, demands more than satisfying physical pleasures. His mind needs superior truths: secrets from the stars, the symbols of human character; powers from stone, herbs and metals, and all species of animals.

The stars are also the expression of every person’s inner qualities, which everyone needs to learn how to distinguish, in order to know oneself. The Gnostic knows that, for those who know how to recognize the harmony that balances being against not being, the Garden of the Gods is here, on Earth.

Main Meanings

There are good chances of success. You can expect a creative and satisfying time ahead in every part of your life. You must put your ideas down on paper and make the most of favorable premonitions. Thanks to someone’s advice, a dark phase will come to an end. Goodness and kindness will be the key[s] to this problem.

Was Jesus an Alchemist?

You-are-the-salt-of-the-Earth

You are the salt of the earth

Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. (Matthew 5:13 KJV)

Jesus spoke these words during the Sermon on the Mount.

I was reading some pages sent to me on Messenger by a friend who lives in Norway. The book is called “The Dwellings of the Philosophers” by Fulcanelli. The text is mainly about buildings in France which illustrate symbols of alchemy. Here is the page that sparked the thought of today’s title:

68727777_504017047074574_5502938216778432512_n

OK. Now take a deep breath before we continue: the Philosopher’s Stone… salt?

I know Jesus was speaking in parable, but the message is clear: we are the Earth.

In Wicca, salt is symbolic of the element Earth. It is also believed to cleanse an area of harmful or negative energies. (Salt – Wikipedia)

Can this be any clearer?

“Pure”

MV5BZWY3MGQ1ZDQtMDI5OS00MzQ4LTgwMWYtMzFmNzAxYmQ4MTg0XkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNjI0MjE5MjA@._V1_

The Battle of Good and Evil

I watched the first season of this CBC television program a while ago. I had not thought to comment on it, until now. It’s the usage of the term ‘pure’. This has come up as a trigger word for one of Jeffrey Epstein’s victims.

Now, I’m skirting an issue here, as I do not want to add to the thousands of words that are presently circulating the globe on social media about this man’s peculiar sexual antics. But, this one word seems to sum up so much.

We live in strange times, to be sure. And this TV show made the issue of purity even starker than usual. Mennonites live apart from the rest of us to keep themselves pure (i.e. untainted by modern life). But there is something going on behind the scenes which isn’t so pure: a cocaine production and distribution business which has infected the heart of the community with evil.

Because the newly-elected pastor (Noah) is trying to root this evil out of their ‘good’ community, he has to resort to behaviour that is borderline criminal activity. But in our ‘black and white’ world, this gray area is questionable at best, deadly at worst.

Can you fight evil with evil? The answer is: maybe…

Through the Eye of a Needle

img_0167

What did Jesus really mean?

There are a lot of ways that this saying can be interpreted, with the most obvious being the awkward image of a camel trying to go through the eye of a needle:

eye-of-the-needle

But what if that was a misinterpretation of one word? Wordplay (pun) seems to be the order of the day here, camel being substituted for a ‘rope’ or ‘cable’. Good visual.

Cordage_en_chanvre

But the truth may actually be an allusion to a camel entering a Jerusalem gate called “Eye of the Needle” when all the other gates are locked shut:

israel-nazareth-eye-of-the-needle

The camel would have to be unloaded and then would have to stoop down to get through the gate. That image would better fit a rich man taking all his holdings and giving them to the poor, in other words, humbling himself before God. ‘Nuff said.

An Aquarian Exposition

woodstock-1969-dancing-1-1200x630

Woodstock Music & Art Fair (August 15-17, 1969)

It was 50 years ago this week that Woodstock took place. No doubt, most of you are already tired of hearing/seeing/reading about this significant “3 Days of Peace & Music”, but it managed to define a full generation of young people whose time came to be, on that weekend in New York state.

An attempt to recreate the once-in-a-lifetime event this year has ended in defeat. There will not be a Woodstock 50, as originally conceived. That’s a shame, but as any astrologer will tell you, some things can only happen once. If the planets don’t align, nothing can force the Universe to act.

FestivalWoodstockWREJC1

The timing of this chart is set by the very first act to perform: Richie Havens. His claim to fame is that he wrote a song right there on the Woodstock stage: “Freedom”.

That song became the anthem of the Woodstock Generation.

Mars Inconjunct Saturn

(Text from Planets in Youth by Robert Hand)

This can be a difficult aspect because it signifies a conflict between your sense of responsibility and your desire to fulfill your own needs and do what you want. This leads to a struggle within you that may keep you from acting decisively. Instead of deciding what you will do, you feel caught between these two forces, wondering whether you have the right to do what you want. You may feel that others are trying to frustrate you, but it is only your own decisiveness that is causing the trouble. Sometimes this conflict makes you feel irritable and resentful about nothing in particular. Then, when someone happens to act in a way that is obviously annoying, you focus all your built-up anger on that person.

Sometimes with this aspect there really is someone in your life who discourages you and makes you feel that your efforts are futile. You must learn to avoid negative people who make you feel bad about yourself. Your parents should work very hard to give you self-confidence and show you that you are a valuable and important person.

On the positive side, this aspect can mean that you control your aggressions and energies so that they work out constructively. But make sure that you do work out your aggression instead of keeping it hidden, because that can result in sudden bursts of temper, which may work against you. Also, if you repress these energies, they may turn against you and be expressed as illness or accidents. (pages 230-231)

Conclusion

Image103LL_v2_1

The result was exactly as advertised: three days of peace and music. And more than 400, 000 young people attended. That’s the size of a medium-sized city.

There were no police in attendance, and freedom broke out everywhere…

I came upon a child of God
He was walking along the road
When I asked him where are you going
This he told me.
I’m going down to Yasgur’s farm
Think I’ll join a rock and roll band
I’ll camp out on the land
I’ll try and set my soul free…

Searching for Hidden Treasure

81tNz-nLsjL._RI_

Detectorists (Series 3)

For those of you who haven’t seen this television program, it’s about metal detecting, and looking for gold, but it’s so much more than that.

This show is a sleeper. If you have ever lived in the UK, you will recognize the characters, and their situations: these are guys that drink a couple of pints in the pub and talk about the future. They each have dreams, mostly to escape their humdrum lives and their joint hope is to be the ones to find the next big discovery of buried Viking treasure or Roman gold coins.

It is also a metaphor of our quest for a spiritual life while working at unfulfilling jobs, or raising our pre-school children. In other words, normal lives.

Series 3 Finale

My daughter, Rosanna, hates it when I give away the endings to TV shows and movies, so I shall endeavour to explain what happened without spoiling the plot.

Last night, on PBS, the last three episodes (from 2017) were aired. Because it has taken such a long time to unfold the full, bucolic tale, these three were almost breathtaking in the speed by which the events passed. (Unfortunately, PBS also had issues with images freezing during all of their shows last night, so I got a bit frustrated with the station, at times.)

detectorists-new-lead_trans_NvBQzQNjv4BqpJliwavx4coWFCaEkEsb3kvxIt-lGGWCWqwLa_RXJU8

Mackenzie Crook, the actor who plays Andy, is also the writer and director of the series. All credit goes to him for his subdued performances, and his astute observations of life.

Lance, his partner in the search, is played to perfection by Toby Jones, all wide-eyed and thoughtful. (The title of this clip is misleading, so be aware of the irony.)

In the third series, Lance does find a gold coin, but a magpie steals it before he can get a photo of it in situ. This sets up the co-operative effort by the Danebury Metal Detecting Club to search that field before a development company comes in to build on the land.

In the end, the DMDC find nothing of value, but all rivalries and infighting have been healed and our heroes achieve their lifelong dreams, without finding any treasure.

14598356-high--ed12d04

Then as the camera pans up and away from Lance and Andy returning to Lance’s car, parked by the closest tree, the magpie reveals his secret horde…

That was the most satisfying conclusion to a series I have ever witnessed.

The Search for Two Fugitives from B.C.

images2.persgroep.net

Two Young Lads from Port Alberni, Vancouver Island

The manhunt appears to be over for these two murder suspects. Bodies have been found in Northern Manitoba, bringing an end to a very worrying few weeks.

search-area-map

The only reason I’m even bothering to report this to all of you is the fact that I dowsed the Google map of this area in the early morning (2 am) after the RCMP returned their search back to Gillam, after investigating a sighting of them near Split Lake.

I was curious to see if I could pick up their energy through my laptop. Now, most would say that’s nonsense but even electronic images carry information that can be dowsed, in the same way that a map can be dowsed for a water source.

Needless to say, I got nothing. So I came to the conclusion that the reason for my inability to find them was two-fold: either they had somehow evaded capture and moved into a new territory (like Ontario, for example); or they were dead.

Looks like I was right.

Is Reincarnation Our Second Chance?

What-goes-around-comes-around

Can We Correct Our Past Mistakes?

Recent posts about reincarnation have raised issues of why anyone would have to repeat tendencies from a prior life. When David Wilcock came to the understanding that he might have been Edgar Cayce in the past, he recognized that food addiction issues in the present were just a continuation of his previous time on earth.

However, with every burden brought forward into a new life is also the solution to the problem. We are not, therefore, set adrift in the sea of existence to sink or swim. We are always given a personal flotation device which is ours alone. But if we fail to utilize that equipment, we will continue to flounder.

But what equipment? The Holy Spirit, of course.

Our Personal Trainer

It sounds like a ridiculous concept, doesn’t it? But, just dealing with the struggle to lose weight, any genuine help is gratefully received. As a diabetic for the past 16 years, the struggle has been compounded by my need for medication to control the level of my blood sugars. In short, the issue wasn’t just taking the right medication, it was the need to control my carb intake.

Last month, I resolved to change the way I eat and the amount of pills I have to take. I can say, as of this date, a full five weeks since I started, I have lost 10 pounds.

The nudges for me to change things up came in the form(s) of my wife and her friends. Books were suggested, and some others we already had on our library shelves. I started to read about exactly what diabetes is, and then picked up the clues from these books that would work for me for its control and subsequent weight loss.

That’s how the Holy Spirit works. We don’t always get a blinding flash of light and a voice coming through the wall.

The Still, Small Voice

the-still-small-voice-of-god-never-calls-on-me-to-be

We mock the Holy Spirit at our peril. If you are getting quiet prompts to change something, or to do something new, start listening. And then, starting acting on it.

Your life might just depend on it.

The Four “Horsewomen”

Ocasio-Cortez-Pressley-Omar-Tlaib-Squad

The (so-called) “Squad”

I wonder who came up with this nickname. No, I’m not referring to Trump’s latest ‘Four Horsewomen of the Apocalypse’ name: that was obviously from Mike Pence.

The Squad sounds innocuous enough, until you start to think about it.

Squad = squaw’d.

Not very nice, eh?
