All’s Fair in Politics?

Do I Have to Say the Words?

Donald Trump has done it again, but this time he has spoken for more than just the ‘Silent Majority’. He has also spoken for the Native American population.

But he won’t get that.

We’re in the preliminary part of the Presidential election, and Trump thinks that he needs to say out loud what other (Republican) Americans are thinking. If it resonates with them, he thinks it’ll get him re-elected. He thinks his base is strong.

But, and there’s always a ‘but’, his recent attack on Progressive Democrats ‘of colour’ has not divided his political opponents, but united them, instead.

That’s not what he intended.

Impeachment

Trump also wants to goad his enemies into action. He knows that they could not possibly oust him from the White House ahead of 2020, so he wants them to try, because then his supporters will become much more vocal.

The senior Democratic leaders know that it’s a fools game, so they are trying to keep their ranks patient enough to inflict a greater victory over Trump by defeating him at the polls. But that means that Trump will continue to poke their hornet’s nest with a non-PC stick.

Conclusion

I noted earlier that the Moon would eclipse Saturn several times over the next six months. This past weekend’s Twitter tirade was another of those events. It didn’t really accomplish anything significant, but it did remind us that Trump’s political aim is to get re-elected.

We shall see.

Who are You Calling a Philistine?

philistine2

It’s All Greek to Me

Recent news has come out that the Philistines may have actually come from Greece. That makes them “Westerners” to our way of thinking.

But it makes the pejorative term ‘philistine’ suddenly suspect. Have we been programmed by the Bible to see all Israelite enemies as our enemies, too?

It reminds me of the fact that Hollywood was (and still is) run by Jews. Just ask Mel Gibson. And the reason I bring this up is the movie “The Matrix”. The second sequel calls the base of the rebellion Zion. I wish they hadn’t done that. It smacks of Jewish propaganda.

But, to put this all into perspective, we need to remember that Jesus was a Jew, too.

Them’s Fighting Words

In the ancient past, the world was even more ‘dog-eat-dog’ than it is now. Which means, in effect, that one needed to fight to preserve his life, the best defence being offence.

So, we don’t need to judge the Israelites for what they had to do to keep their people safe. But, here’s the thing: the State of Israel is still working with that mindset, and it’s putting the rest of the world at risk.

And all those ‘events’ in the Middle East with Iran? It wouldn’t surprise me if the Israelis were working behind the scenes to ensure that the Arab nations keep fighting amongst themselves. It’s how they’ve managed to keep one step ahead of their neighbours.

Need I remind everyone that Israel has the atomic bomb, but no one is making them give it up? No wonder Iran is pissed off.

Conclusion

Oil is still at the heart of all the conflicts in the Middle East. The sooner we switch to a different energy resource, the sooner we can all rest easier in our beds at night. Amen.

The Rational Way to Spiritual Healing

Colin Bloy Pub Miracles

I’m Just Going Down to the Pub to Do a Few Miracles

What a title, eh? Colin Bloy first published this book in 1990, and it was reprinted again in 1991. This version is newly minted, newly printed, thanks to Suzanne Thomas, the editor of Fountain International Magazine.

I read the original book in the late 1990’s, and I must have absorbed more than I realized at the time, because many of the concepts contained therein are the same I have been contemplating for more than 20 years.

But to have a copy in my library, without having to pay almost £100 for it, is a miracle on its own. I bought this paperback through Amazon.ca. It cost less than C$20.

Humour

Colin’s writing style is conversational, jocular, and filled with anecdotes. It’s as if he’s sitting beside you, recounting some of the spiritual adventures he’s had.

And he’s self-deprecating. Let me give you a sample of his humour.

On Dowsing

The problem started when a friend of mine, Harold Wicks, who has a lot to answer for, changed my life (without a Government Health Warning), had me over for lunch one day. He lived then in the country near Tunbridge Wells.

“I’ve become a dowser,” he said.

This was a critical point in my conversion. Had Harold been someone I hardly knew, I might have said something banal in rejoinder, but I had developed over the years a respectful appreciation of Harold’s intellectual integrity. We had worked closely together in politics for some years and had come to trust each other’s judgement. I certainly trusted him, and if he told me it worked, I immediately accepted it.

That was important. If any Tom, Dick or Harry said that to an unbeliever, he’d probably change the subject. Anyway, I showed interest and he explained to me, that a week or two before, across an adjacent field had come a strong smell of gas, on a Sunday, so he called the Gas Board’s emergency service. It wasn’t long before he saw two men digging a hole in a nearby field. He went over to them, and indeed they were from the Gas Board and had found the fault. “That was quick,” he observed. “Yes, guv,” one said, “we use the rods, see!” holding up two L rods. “It’s a lot quicker than using the official maps to find the pipe, and you can find the fault with them very quickly. Most of us use them.” Now Harold accepted intellectually that they were describing a real phenomenon and thus his attitude to dowsing became, not whether it worked, but how it worked.

So, he took up the rods himself and walked. He stuck a pair in my hands. I couldn’t get any reaction over his gas mains at the first session. Then he took my hand in his and with a rod in his left hand and the other in my right hand, we tripped laughingly over his land.

“There you are,” he said as his rod moved. Mine didn’t. A few more tries. I started to try and make myself more aware of what he was feeling. Suddenly, our rods fired and I was away. I soon had his gas pipes, water mains, telephone cables and electrics all located. The rod had started to live in my hand.

“That’s fun,” I thought. Little did I know what I was getting into (I have dropped others in it, too, subsequently). Even so, I treated it as a new interest in life, rather than a huge new insight. (pages 23-24)

Conclusion

This is a very easy book to read. I started it on Friday last, and finished it yesterday, this Sunday past. The chapters are short, bite-sized (mostly), helping the reader to digest what he’s feeding you, little by little.

He also calls the book a hologram, meaning that it doesn’t have to be read as a linear instruction manual. You can dip in and out of it, as the mood strikes, or if a chapter heading intrigues you.

But mostly the message is clear:

All we need is love.

Whether You Believe It or Not!

0d24fdb7a30ecd2afc8114fa82aa886e

Just Think About It!

I’ve been a diabetic for 16 years. My father suffered from it, too. It’s the ‘silent’ epidemic ruining the lives of a great many people. The thing is, it kills you.

I’ve been reading a book by Dr. David Fung called The Diabetes Code. He says I should be able to “prevent and reverse type 2 diabetes naturally.” That’s an earthshaking statement to me.

Up until now, I’ve bought into the medical mindset that high blood sugar levels are what need to be kept under control. Tail wagging the dog, more like. If you want to know more, get a copy for yourself.

Just Lose Some Weight

The solution is simple, the doing not so much. But I experimented with this idea a couple of times before, the first time as part of a weight loss challenge. It was the dickens to lose weight. I had to fool my body into letting it go, mainly by intermittent fasting. But this was frowned upon by my doctor. He liked the idea that I lost the weight, but he said I needed to eat ‘good’ food on a regular basis to prevent blood sugar ‘spiking’. Evidently, the wildly fluctuating levels would cause damage. Needless to say, I gained weight again.

Last year, my blood sugar levels were SO well under control that I wondered if I could try something else. So I got the bright idea of using the new Weight Watchers point system, keeping a very strict regimen of food intake, based on my weight. As I lost 10 pounds, I reduced my intake by a point. Needless to say, that worked better, but the problem was that I was beginning to become hypoglycemic, meaning that my blood sugar levels were dangerously low all the time. So I started reducing my medicine doses until I reached my goal weight.

That success inspired me to try to cut out one of the medicines completely, and for a time I was on half doses of the remaining medicines. But then my blood sugar levels started climbing again, and my doctor became worried, so we restored my dosage levels and started two new pills to replace the one I’d stopped. Guess what? I gained the weight back.

Intermittent Fasting?

Last Saturday, I weighed myself, and discovered that I had managed to take off and keep off 14 pounds since the winter. But now I am inspired to combine the different things I’ve learned along the way. The trigger to putting it into action was weighing myself on Wednesday and being shocked that the Canada Day celebrations had brought me back up 5 pounds! (It turns out that the scales have a flaw: if I weigh too much, all I have to do is step off the scales and try again; the correct weight shows the second time.) I fasted for about 12 hours during the day, and then had a stir fry for dinner. I was back down 6 pounds by Thursday. Since then I’ve lost 2 more pounds, and I’m fasting today.

The other thing I’m doing is cutting my medicines in half again, and completely stopping those two new medicines. I feel better, already.

Blood Sugar Levels?

Well, here’s the thing: they have gone up to more ‘normal’ levels, and I think this means that my body is utilizing stored body fat instead of food intake. That’s why the weight is coming off so quickly. This time I won’t panic myself into dosing up and trying to maintain low blood sugar levels. No matter what the experts think, I know my body very well.

Conclusion

This whole process is demonstrating to me the power of my thinking, and the need to listen to the clues my body gives me about what it really needs.

There is no need for high octane gas, with a fuel additive, when the lower grade stuff will work just as well. My vehicle is not going to be running on empty anymore.

Is God on Our Side?

DSCN1707

Does the Universe have Our Back?

I was reading an article online that had been linked to us by the leader of our Faith & Science group, and then it struck me: most of us think that if we are good people that everything will turn out alright. How presumptuous, I thought.

This is the very reason that Agnostics and Atheists have a field day with ‘true’ believers. How can God (or the Universe, if you prefer) single out and protect/promote/prosper those that hope for the best, and yet, fear the worst? As Jesus said, in his Sermon on the Mount:

“Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?” (Matthew 4:43-46)

So our only solution is to answer the question:

“Are we working with the Universe?”

Yesterday’s Solar Eclipse

DSCN1703

This was the view from my back yard at the precise moment of the total solar eclipse when it was crossing South America. Not very spectacular, eh?

But I have a great excuse: the path of totality was mostly over the Pacific Ocean, only touching down for a short while over Chile and Argentina.

1_total-solar-eclipse-july-2019-e1531042845441

However, I did erect a chart for the moment of totality…

2019SolarEclipseWREJC1

Do you see all those red lines? They represent ‘conflict’. However, there are three major (and two minor) green lines, too. These aspects represent mitigating influences.

Venus Trine Ascendant

Your attitude toward life is gentle and peaceful. You like to know that everyone is getting along pleasantly. You hate conflict and cannot see that very much good ever comes from it. Certainly in your own life you do much more by winning people over through friendly persuasion than by fighting. However, at times you will have to stand up for your own views, and you should be prepared to do so. Don’t compromise on what you believe in strongly.

Saturn Sextile Neptune

You are able to do your work and take responsibility for overcoming your own problems and challenges in life, while at the same time being open to spiritual comfort, aid and guidance. A good balance between being well-grounded and being receptive to spirit or the inner world is working in your favour. Enjoying simplicity and cultivating peace enable you to evolve and to work through your challenges.

Neptune Sextile Pluto

The entire generation to which you belong has a tremendous opportunity for spiritual rebirth and awakening. This will not be forced upon you or precipitated by unavoidable events, rather it comes from an inner yearning and a natural propensity to seek the depths.

Conclusion

These are trying times, to be sure. A new Moon is the opportunity to start again, every month. When it coincides with a solar eclipse, the influence is profound. The ordinary people of the world are tired of being hoodwinked. They are expressing their feelings in marches and protests. The world leaders are having to pay attention, albeit reluctantly.

One of those two minor green lines links Venus and Mars…

Strawberry Beatles Forever

yesterday-movie-2019-01

Yesterday

Imagine a world without Coca-Cola, Harry Potter, cigarettes and the Beatles. That’s the premise of this movie. But, if you were the only person who could remember their songs, wouldn’t you want to share them with the world?

Post script: There is a sequence in this preview that did not end up in the finished movie; Jack sings “Something” to another guest on James Corden’s Late, Late Show. The final version has an imagined revelation of two of the original Beatles showing up instead. That turned out to be just one of Jack’s nightmares. But keep an eye out for a surprise!

Marianne Williamson: Who Knew?

photo

Now, here’s the thing: politics is a dirty business; the candidates are cutthroat, the policies have hidden agendas, and the promises are soon forgotten. So, when a spiritual teacher decides to throw her hat in the ring, running as a Democrat in their selection of a presidential candidate, you have to wonder if it is a wise decision.

Besides, Saturday Night Live has already chosen her as a person of particular interest, since her spiritual values are so easily mocked. No doubt she will have thick skin about this, but it could actually galvanize the population who are not specifically Christian, but are New Age in their thinking.

God knows something has to change!

Scheering the Sheep

Funny-Sheep-Facts

Speaking with Forked Tongues

It might seem strange to suggest that soon-to-be-banned single use plastic forks at a Liberal meeting makes Trudeau a hypocrite. But that’s what the Conservatives are trying to do.

In the first place, this isn’t an enacted law yet, and secondly, if the Conservatives get into power this October, they would probably rescind anything the Liberals did previously. So, this amounts to an election ploy.

In truth, environmental issues have become this year’s ‘hot topic’. But Andrew Scheer took forever to finally let Canadians know how the Conservatives will battle climate change. As we have seen in Ontario, there are plenty of ‘fine’ words, and expensive advertisements, to counter the Liberals’ use of an extra charge on energy consumption. But there was a perfectly acceptable ‘cap and trade’ option that the Ontario Liberals had put in place, before Doug Ford cancelled it.

The Federal Conservatives say that they will ‘force’ the biggest polluters to use better technology to fight pollution. Really? How?

It’s more Scheer hypocrisy.

And then there’s Immigration…

The grins say it all, eh?

In other words: no matter who succeeds, nothing will change.

Is Mysticism a Science?

quote-mysticism-is-just-tomorrow-s-science-dreamed-today-marshall-mcluhan-252222

Our Faith & Science group is having a discussion, via email, ahead of this week’s meeting. The nub of the discussion is around the use of the phrase “mysticism is a science”. One of the more vocal members of the group has challenged this idea, and sparked a debate.

Here’s what Ken Wilber wrote about it, in the foreword of “Entering the Castle” by Caroline Myss:

“Want to find out if those essential points of mysticism that we have so briefly outlined here are, in fact, true? Well, I will tell you the final thing that I personally love about genuine contemplative mysticism: It is scientific — in the sense of experimental, experiential, and evidential. Try Teresa’s seven-step interior experiment as taught in Entering the Castle, and see for yourself. It’s an interior scientific experiment. Entering the Castle is fully based on St. Teresa’s seven interior mansions, which are explained and elaborated here so beautifully, so clearly, so compassionately, so lightheartedly, so wondrously by my friend Caroline Myss, for whom dearest St. Teresa became not only a spiritual woman who had written a brilliant practice manual, but a saint who saved Caroline’s life, showed her her soul, awakened her heart, and set her on the never-ending, always-actualizing, timelessly fulfilled road of practice.”

Amen.
